The car has repeatedly demonstrated how good it is in the slower corners but has struggled with drag on straights and in using a smaller turbocharger than their rivals. It has proved costly on traditional circuits this season where, even when competitive at the off, the Ferrari has been unable to match the Mercedes’ formidable race pace, or that of the upgraded McLaren.

Ferrari’s pace through the twists – Hamilton was quickest in the slow speed corners at the last round in Canada – and that smaller turbo will be vital in Monaco. Energy management should not be an issue with ample recharging, while the smaller turbo will enable it to remain spooled up to be most effective in punching quicker out of the corners.

Anthony Head found fame as half of the Gold Blend couple in commercials that captured the imagination of the British public in the late 1980s and 90s. They paved the way to success for him on US television in the supernatural horror series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003), playing the “watcher” and mentor of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s title character.

As the prim English librarian Rupert Giles at Sunnydale high school, he is assigned to Buffy Summers, a cheerleader there, by the secret Watchers’ Council of Britain, which oversees slayers who use their superhuman skills to fight evil forces. Increasingly, he becomes a father figure to Buffy and her friends Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander (Nicholas Brendon). Together, he and those students form the core of a group known as the Scooby Gang (or Scoobies).

Historians and campaigners accuse US defence secretary of desecrating memory of soldiers who fell in Normandy

The US defence secretary, Pete Hegseth, has been accused by historians and rights campaigners of “grotesque stupidity” and desecrating the memory of the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy after he sought to link immigration to the D-day anniversary, saying Europe was facing a different “invasion” of its shores.

BADHOEVEDORP (ANP) - Golfer Joost Luiten wil in de toekomst eventuele problemen met zijn caddie anders aanpakken. Dat vertelde de 40-jarige Nederlander na afloop van zijn slotronde op het KLM Open in Badhoevedorp. De tweevoudig winnaar zei zaterdag na een slechte derde ronde dat hij overwoog zijn caddie te vervangen. "Daar leer ik van en dat zal ik in de toekomst anders doen", zei hij een dag later.

"Ik had dat natuurlijk niet moeten zeggen", keek Luiten zondag terug op de situatie. "Ik had hem niet voor de bus moeten gooien. Dat gebeurt in de frustratie en emotie na zo'n ronde. Je krijgt een paar rotvragen en dan geef je weleens een rotantwoord. Maar jullie hadden nu wel wat te schrijven", voegde hij glimlachend toe.

RIO DE JANEIRO (ANP) - De productie van duurzamere vliegtuigbrandstof, ofwel sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), komt wereldwijd amper van de grond. Daarop heeft de internationale luchtvaartbrancheorganisatie IATA dit weekend gewezen op een conferentie in Brazilië. De belangenclub waarschuwde dat doelstellingen voor luchtvaartmaatschappijen om meer gebruik hiervan te maken zo in gevaar komen.

Terwijl conventionele vliegtuigbrandstof op aardolie is gebaseerd, wordt SAF gemaakt van materialen zoals voedsel- en tuinafval en gebruikt frituurvet. De wereldwijde productie van SAF bedraagt dit jaar naar verwachting 2,4 miljoen ton, heeft IATA uitgerekend. Dat staat gelijk aan 0,8 procent van het brandstofverbruik in de sector.

"Het lijkt weer een teleurstellend jaar te worden voor de SAF-productie", verklaarde IATA-topman Willie Walsh. "Het pad om in 2050 in 65 procent van onze brandstofbehoeften te voorzien, wordt met elk jaar moeilijker door ineffectief getimed overheidsbeleid en het overduidelijke gebrek aan interesse van oliemaatschappijen."

Maatregelen

Walsh vindt dat overheden maatregelen moeten nemen om een levensvatbare SAF-markt te creëren. Volgens hem is de urgentie hiervoor groter geworden door de scherpe stijging van de brandstofprijzen als gevolg van de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten.

Naast SAF is er ook nog e-SAF, waarbij gebruikgemaakt wordt van duurzame stroom en groene waterstof. Brussel heeft verplicht gesteld dat er tegen 2030 0,6 miljoen ton e-SAF moet worden gemaakt. Maar de wereldwijde productiecapaciteit die operationeel is of in aanbouw, bedraagt slechts 0,02 miljoen ton, met maar één productielocatie in bedrijf. Volgens Walsh zijn de doelstellingen "onrealistisch". "Het is een roekeloze strategie om verplichtingen op te leggen voordat de productie op gang is gekomen."

Paul de Leeuw moet stoppen met zijn jaarlijkse sinterklaasshow op de publieke omroep. De NPO heeft besloten dat Sint & De Leeuw na dit jaar van de buis verdwijnt, omdat het programma twee jaar op rij niet voldoet aan de eigen beleidslijn Amusement. Dat meldt Mediacourant op basis van een mededeling op de NPO-website.

Volgens die beleidslijn mag de publieke omroep amusement uitzenden, maar uitsluitend als middel om een informatief, cultureel of educatief doel te bereiken — amusement puur als amusement past niet bij de publieke taak. "In de beleidslijn Amusement van de NPO is bepaald dat titels die twee opeenvolgende jaren niet door de toets heenkomen, moeten verdwijnen," laat de omroep weten. "Op basis van de resultaten in 2024 en 2025 moet het programma Sint & De Leeuw geschrapt worden."

Pijnlijk detail: de show trekt jaarlijks zo'n 1,5 miljoen kijkers. Tv-recensent Tina Nijkamp reageert op haar Instagram-analysekanaal verbaasd: "Sint en de Leeuw mag dus niet meer. Jaarlijks wel goed voor zo'n 1,5 miljoen kijkers. Jammer voor de kijker en Paul de Leeuw."

Sint & De Leeuw bestaat sinds 2005 en verhuisde vorig jaar nog van BNNVARA naar Omroep MAX, na een breuk tussen De Leeuw en BNNVARA. De editie van 5 december 2025 op NPO 1 was daarmee de eerste — en nu dus ook bijna de laatste — onder de vlag van Jan Slagter. De vraag is nu vooral: pikt RTL of SBS de populaire pakjesavond-traditie op? De Leeuw zelf heeft nog niet publiekelijk gereageerd.

​Een 34-jarige man uit Utrecht heeft zijn partner vergiftigd nadat zij tijdens een ruzie had aangegeven dat hij ‘best wel toxic’ was. Was er sprake van toxic behaviour toen deze man zijn vriendin vergiftigden? Experts leggen het uit.

“Stellen in mijn praktijk strooien graag met de term. Elke week hoor ik verwijten over en weer van ‘toxic’ gedrag. Liegen, bedriegen, manipuleren, het is niet altijd even makkelijk te bepalen. Maar mijn professionele mening is wel dat de inzet van arsenicum in een relatie een typisch voorbeeld is van toxic gedrag”, vertelt relatiepsycholoog Mirjam Lof. “Smaakt je drankje ineens zoutig of chemisch, of lig je brakend op de IC na een spaghetti bolognese? Zie dit dan altijd als een eerste red flag.”

Relatiedeskundige Bas Hekjes zegt dat het zeker toxic gedrag is maar dat de vrouw ook blij moet zijn dat ze niet gegaslight werd.
