As the fallout from the biggest scandal in British football history headed into a second week, Gallagher was asked what he made of rival fans wanting City to lose all their trophies after being found guilty of all the serious charges against them. “There all NEUROTIC little GIMPS,” came the reply on social media. Spanje, bekend om in de fik staan, gaat weer naar de stembus: "De Spaanse premier Pedro Sánchez heeft vervroegde verkiezingen aangekondigd vanwege de woningcrisis die al weken voor grote protesten zorgt." Afgelopen vrijdag wilde de regering met twee decreten huisuitzettingen van kwetsbare huurders verbieden en huurcontracten bevriezen. De oppositie had daar: niet zoveel zin in. De oppositiepartij PP wil namelijk graag 10 nieuwe steden bouwen. De Socialistische Partij (PSOE) van Sánchez vervroegt met dit besluit de verkiezingen, die stonden voor volgend jaar gepland.

While OpenAI and Anthropic stoke fears over rogue agents, Canadian model dev Cohere promises enterprises a safer and more consistent experience. On Monday, the company said it revamped its North agent harness, which launched early last year, to improve collaboration, access control, token spend, and overall security of the platform. As you'd expect from an enterprise focused agent framework, Cohere's North 2 is designed to tie into existing knowledge bases and SaaS apps in order to automate various business processes. North 2 introduces a variety of features and functions that should be familiar to anyone who's used Claude Code or OpenClaw. Among them is the concept of skills, libraries, and automations. Skills are arguably the simplest, and are essentially standard operating procedures documenting how the agent harness should complete tasks. The skills are often generated by working with the agent to complete a task and then documenting which steps achieved the best results. With North 2, Cohere says that it has made it easier for these skills to be shared so that users aren't wasting time reinventing the wheel. Presumably, this should improve consistency by avoiding having the agent take different routes to achieving its goal, something that might miss key information or nuance. To facilitate the creation of new skills, North 2 also introduces the concept of automations, generic templates that can be customized using a drag-and-drop graphical interface, not unlike LangFlow, which we looked at earlier this year. Alongside skills and automations, Cohere's North 2 does something similar for shared knowledge and assets, which it calls libraries, to ensure that agents are working off of the same datasets. Finally, North 2 adds memory, a core feature of most modern agent harnesses, to ensure that agents can maintain context across multiple sessions. In some sense, these features are a bit like self-generating macros, but rather than being limited to Excel, they work across multiple applications and data sources. Sovereign AI remains a major talking point for Cohere, which says enterprises can deploy North 2 where they like and use their preferred models. If enterprises want to deploy the harness on-prem in an air-gapped environment, they can. If they prefer to run it in the cloud, that's also an option. Along with new features aimed at collaboration and automation, North 2 implements new guardrails designed to help enterprises get a handle on their token spend and access controls. Flow control functionality, meanwhile, promises greater visibility into which departments are hogging all the tokens, while access control functionality offers admins the ability to assign access control lists to various libraries and skills so that interns can't get their hands on proprietary data just because they asked for it. North 2 is only the latest in a slew of enterprise focused agentic AI platforms which have been rolled out over the last year. Essentially every major and minor cloud provider has introduced some kind of agent harness tailored to enterprise needs. The competition has only gotten hotter over the last few weeks as OpenAI, Meta and others have set their sights on the enterprise. ®

Apple’s attempt to integrate AI into its various operating systems hasn’t been entirely well received, nor has the decision to make Apple Intelligence increasingly difficult to disable completely. Thankfully, the open source community has come to the rescue. A recently released open source tool called RemoveMacAI does pretty much exactly what it says on the GitHub-hosted tin: Aggressively rips Apple Intelligence out of macOS, disabling most of its AI features and removing downloaded models following the launch of macOS 27 last month. Siri AI? Gone. ChatGPT and other AI extensions? Eliminated. Genmoji, random boxes offering to jazz up your writing, summaries of notifications and app content, and automatic photo clean-up? Never to be seen again. More importantly, RemoveMacAI can claw back the storage occupied by Apple’s AI models - potentially over 12 GB, depending on the Mac. You might just get confused and think it’s 2025 again. The impetus for RemoveMacAI, its creator Om Lahorey said in a LinkedIn post, is the fact that Apple made it practically impossible to remove Apple Intelligence features in macOS 27. “The settings are spread across about a dozen places, some of them only under Screen Time,” Lahorey wrote over the weekend. “Even with every one turned off, the models stay on disk. I wanted it gone in one step, so I wrote RemoveMacAI.” Unsurprisingly, Lahorey’s tool blew up on Hacker News, with plenty of people happy for an easy way to get rid of Apple AI tools. As of writing, the repo has over 1,500 stars, so it's clearly struck a nerve with frustrated macOS users. It’s simple to run, as its GitHub page explains: install it via a curl command to its GitHub repo, or with Homebrew, and then fire it up in the terminal. Selected features can be left enabled, or Apple Intelligence can be disabled completely, while a single command can revert the changes and restore the previous settings. RemoveMacAI works by installing a configuration profile, which the user has to approve, that applies Apple’s own restriction keys for Apple Intelligence features. Models are then removed via Apple’s asset service. Lahorey credits another open source tool called pared, and its developer, with mapping the asset service, model sets, and settings keys needed to remove Apple Intelligence. Pared functions similarly to RemoveMacAI – you can consider RemoveMacAI to be a more user-friendly wrapper for the other tool. As for whether it will persist, Lahorey explains that the config profile RemoveMacAI installs redirects the download for Apple Intelligence models to a closed local port, so updates to macOS shouldn’t result in the models being reinstalled. Also worth mentioning, Apple System Integrity Protection remains enabled with the models disabled and uninstalled, as no files under System are directly modified by the tool. Dictation should still work as well, as speech models aren’t removed by RemoveMacAI. That said, it’s certainly possible a future macOS update will break RemoveMacAI’s functionality. So if you’re interested in giving the tool a shot, there’s no guarantee this particular escape hatch will remain open forever. ®

A Florida woman was arrested on a felony charge after Anthropic's human review team flagged and reported a Claude conversation in which she allegedly threatened to "shoot up" the Lee County Sheriff's Office and later mentioned acquiring a new gun. Tom's Hardware reports: Anthropic monitors chats for key phrases and content that could be deemed threatening, the arrest report says, and depending on severity, they can be elevated for human review. In this case, the team decided to report its findings to law enforcement. The Bonita Springs woman was detained at home without incident, and an LCSO intelligence detective took over the case from there. The arrest report is not yet in the court file, but our own check shows court records listing the Sept. 30 felony charge under Florida Statute 836.10: written or electronic threat of a mass shooting or act of terrorism.

No comment from Anthropic on the case is currently on record. Anthropic's public privacy policy, effective Sept. 10, says that disclosure to law enforcement may occur where it has a good-faith belief "that disclosure is reasonably necessary to ... prevent serious harm to any person or to property." Its government requests report for the latter half of 2025 uses a narrower standard for emergency disclosures, the "danger of death or serious physical injury to a person," and lists zero emergency requests from law enforcement in that period, though it doesn't count referrals Anthropic makes on its own.

Op 1 januari stopt de salderingsregeling, en dan krijg je voor elke kilowattuur die je teruglevert alleen nog een vergoeding van je leverancier. Lange tijd leek dat bedrag op bijna niets uit te komen. Maar zes energieleveranciers hebben hun terugleververgoeding voor 2027 onlangs verhoogd, meldt vergelijkingssite Energievergelijk. Bij sommigen gaat het om tientallen euro's per jaar extra. Of jij ervan profiteert, hangt af van je leverancier en van je contract.

Zo werkt het vanaf januari

Na 1 januari mag je teruggeleverde stroom niet meer wegstrepen tegen wat je verbruikt. Volgens Energievergelijk betaal je dan voor elke kWh die je van het net haalt het volle tarief, en krijg je voor elke kWh die je teruglevert een terugleververgoeding. Bijna elke leverancier rekent daar wel terugleverkosten per kWh tegenover. Wat overblijft, is de netto vergoeding: daar gaat het om.

In juli zag dat er nog somber uit. Energievergelijk meldde toen dat Essent netto uitkwam op een kwart cent per kWh. Voor een huishouden dat jaarlijks 2.500 kWh teruglevert, was dat zo'n 50 cent per maand.

Deze leveranciers gingen omhoog

Sinds juli zijn de netto vergoedingen in de contracten flink gestegen. De grootste sprong maakte Essent, zo blijkt uit de vergelijking van Energievergelijk. De bedragen hieronder gelden bij 2.500 kWh teruglevering per jaar:

• Essent: van 0,25 naar 3,08 cent per kWh, van €6 naar €77 per jaar
• Eneco: van 2,50 naar 3,85 cent per kWh, van €63 naar €96 per jaar
• Vattenfall: van 2,07 naar 3,44 cent per kWh, van €52 naar €86 per jaar
• Powerpeers, Budget Thuis en Energiedirect: een paar tientjes per jaar meer

Met een vast contract houd je daarmee het meest over bij Eneco: €96 per jaar na aftrek van de terugleverkosten. Daarna volgen Vattenfall (€86), Essent (€77), Powerpeers (€71) en Budget Thuis (€63). Bij Energiedirect blijft €25 over. Bij OM betaal je zelfs geld toe: de terugleverkosten zijn er hoger dan de vergoeding, waardoor je netto €19 per jaar kwijt bent.

Bij Coolblue, Delta Energie, Greenchoice en Vandebron bleef de vergoeding gelijk, op 0,25 tot 0,50 cent per kWh. Daar houd je ook in 2027 hooguit €13 per jaar over.

Dezelfde panelen op hetzelfde dak: bij de ene leverancier €96 per jaar, bij de andere moet je bijbetalen.

De reden is minder vrolijk

De leveranciers zijn niet ineens gul geworden. Volgens Energievergelijk komt de stijging vooral doordat stroom sinds juli duurder is geworden. Tot 2030 moet de vergoeding wettelijk minstens de helft zijn van het kale stroomtarief, dus de prijs zonder belastingen. Bijna alle leveranciers geven precies dat minimum. Wordt stroom duurder, dan stijgt de vergoeding automatisch mee.

Dat zet de bedragen ook in perspectief. Zelfs de hoogste vergoeding bij een vast contract maakt de hogere netbeheerkosten voor 2027 niet goed, waarover we eerder schreven in "Cv-ketel of warmtepomp? Zo pakt de energierekening van 2027 voor jou uit". De extra opbrengst verzacht de klap, meer niet.

Dynamisch levert nog steeds meer op

Bij een dynamisch contract krijg je per kwartier of per uur de marktprijs voor je stroom. Energievergelijk rekende uit dat teruggeleverde stroom dit jaar tot en met 25 september gemiddeld 5,1 cent per kWh waard was. Drie aanbieders leggen daar een bonus bovenop:

• Zonneplan telt 2 cent op bij de marktprijs en geeft daarover nog 10 procent extra, tot 7.500 kWh per jaar
• Frank Energie geeft 15 procent extra plus 1,82 cent per kWh, als je omvormer gekoppeld is zodat die stopt bij een negatieve prijs
• NextEnergy geeft 50 procent extra op de marktprijs, tot 6.000 kWh per jaar

Met de prijzen van dit jaar kom je zo op 7,6 tot 7,8 cent per kWh. Volgens Energievergelijk levert dat ruim €100 per jaar meer op dan het beste vaste contract. Toch wordt het gat kleiner. In juli gaf het beste vaste contract volgens dezelfde site nog ongeveer €62 per jaar, en leverden dynamische contracten zo'n drie keer zoveel op per kWh.

Wat als je vaste contract nog doorloopt?

Heb je een vast contract dat tot ver in 2027 doorloopt, dan krijg je de hogere bedragen niet automatisch. Bij een vast contract mag de leverancier je terugleververgoeding tijdens de looptijd niet wijzigen, schrijft Salderingswijzer met een beroep op toezichthouder ACM. Dat beschermt je tegen een verlaging, maar het betekent ook dat je vastzit aan wat je hebt afgesproken.

Tussentijds overstappen kan, maar meestal betaal je dan een opzegvergoeding. Er is wel een uitzondering. Wijzigt je leverancier de voorwaarden van een contract dat over 1 januari doorloopt, dan mag je volgens de ACM kosteloos overstappen, als je huidige voorwaarden die wijziging toestaan.

Kijk ook niet alleen naar de vergoeding. In de vergelijking van Energievergelijk is UnitedConsumers met zonnepanelen het goedkoopst, met €122,10 per maand inclusief korting. Daar krijg je maar een halve cent per kWh voor je teruggeleverde stroom. Eneco staat tweede, met €126,34 per maand.

Wat je nu kunt doen

• Zoek in je contract welke terugleververgoeding en welke terugleverkosten vanaf 1 januari voor jou gelden. Het verschil daartussen is wat je echt krijgt.
• Kijk op je jaarafrekening hoeveel kWh je teruglevert. Pas dan zie je wat een paar cent per kWh voor jou betekent.
• Loopt je vaste contract nog lang? Zet de opzegvergoeding naast wat je bij een andere leverancier extra zou krijgen.
• Vergelijk op de totale jaarprijs, niet alleen op de vergoeding. Een lage stroomprijs kan meer schelen dan een hoge vergoeding.
• Gebruik je stroom zoveel mogelijk zelf, bijvoorbeeld door de wasmachine overdag te laten draaien. Stroom die je direct verbruikt, hoef je niet in te kopen en daar betaal je ook geen terugleverkosten over, merkt Solar365 op.
• Overweeg je een dynamisch contract? Houd er rekening mee dat de vergoeding meebeweegt met de markt en dat sommige bonussen alleen gelden als je omvormer gekoppeld is.

DEN HAAG (ANP) - Met 123 miljoen euro wil het kabinet de natuur in de Brainport-regio vooruithelpen. Minister Jaimi van Essen (Landbouw, D66) kondigde dat bedrag aan bij een werkbezoek aan het Groene Woud bij het Brabantse Liempde.

Het geld komt uit een pot van 500 miljoen euro voor "prioritaire gebieden", licht een woordvoerder van Van Essen toe aan het ANP. Daarmee moet het in de omgeving van Eindhoven makkelijker worden om vergunningen te verlenen, om te voorkomen dat economische projecten nog meer stikstofproblemen ondervinden. Hoe het concreet moet worden besteed, is nog niet bekend.

"Ik heb natuurlijk een heel pakket van 20 miljard liggen", zei Van Essen bij zijn werkbezoek, verwijzend naar zijn bredere stikstofmaatregelen. "Maar als regio's goede plannen hebben, dan wil je als minister thuisgeven."

Een paar jaar geleden tuigde het kabinet het zogeheten Project Beethoven op, met enkele miljarden euro's om het ondernemingsklimaat voor de microchipsector te verbeteren. "Voor veel van deze plannen is echter een natuurvergunning nodig, en daar loopt het nu op vast", schrijft het landbouwministerie. Veel natuurgebieden in Brabant zijn overbelast met stikstof.

NEW YORK (ANP/AFP) - Toonaangevende AI-bedrijven weten niet hoe ze moeten voorkomen dat AI-systemen doelen nastreven die hun ontwikkelaars niet hebben meegegeven. Daarvoor waarschuwde klokkenluider Jacob Coxon, een voormalig medewerker van ChatGPT-moederbedrijf OpenAI en Claude-maker Anthropic.

"Gezien wat er op het spel staat, zijn bedrijven bijzonder roekeloos bezig", zei Coxon tijdens een hoorzitting in New York.

De Britse onderzoeker publiceerde begin september een verklaring op X, waarin hij uitlegde waarom hij bij Anthropic vertrok. Daarin zei Coxon dat AI-ontwikkelaars die de technologie rond kunstmatige intelligentie (AI) bouwen er oprecht in geloven "dat het ons allemaal kan uitroeien voor het einde van dit decennium". Zijn getuigenis haalde wereldwijd het nieuws en verschillende huidige en voormalige medewerkers van grote bedrijven in de AI-sector hebben sindsdien vergelijkbare zorgen geuit.

Uitsterven mens

Hoewel AI de samenleving "enorme voordelen" kan brengen, is het volgens de klokkenluider "op de huidige koers waarschijnlijker dan niet dat de mensheid de controle over deze AI verliest en dat kan uitmonden in het uitsterven van de mens", zei hij maandag.

"We weten niet hoe we kunnen voorkomen dat ze eigen doelen ontwikkelen" die buiten de macht van hun makers vallen, legde Coxon uit. "We hebben ook niet de waarborgen om te voorkomen dat ze op die doelen gaan handelen."

De voormalige Anthropic-onderzoeker haalde ook uit naar de cultuur in de techsector. Bedrijven "werken met een start-upmentaliteit: snel handelen, dingen kapotmaken en ze later repareren". "Dat werkt voor een app om foto's te delen. Het werkt niet voor het bouwen van de krachtigste technologie ooit", aldus Coxon.

Bovendien weten ze hoe ze de perfecte muzikale omlijsting kunnen creëren voor de zang van Hope Sandoval. Maar dat de zang grotendeels bepalend is voor hoe de band klinkt valt niet te ontkennen.
