“Striking with the inside of the foot, almost wrapping the ball while the body is off-balance, you have to maintain balance at the crucial moment to take the shot,” Henry said on Fox after the game. “Do you know how hard it is to generate power then? At the end of the game? To redirect it like that? If I did that now, I’d break my back.”

Springboks run in seven tries in one-sided contest
What a fabulous occasion this was, a thunderous classic to kick off the new-look Nations Championship. Anyone stumbling across the sport for the first time would have been truly staggered by the commitment of both teams, not to mention the spine-tingling pre-match rendition of “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika”. This was top-drawer sporting theatre in the spiritual home of South African rugby.
And when the smoke finally cleared on a cool, still Highveld evening it was the world champion Springboks who emerged battered but victorious. From 17-0 down after just 12 minutes England showed huge resolve to battle their way back to 17-14 at half-time but by the end, reduced to 13 men, the upstart visitors had been firmly put back in their place.

Bij NRC is er een soort regel dat je alleen columns over sport mag schrijven, als je hele slechte columns over sport schrijft. Zo had je vroeger Wilfried de Jong, een prima Zomergasten-presentator romancier soort van lollige Rotterdamse BN'er op tv, die schreef hele slechte columns over sport in NRC. Je had ook Clarence Seedorf, misschien wel de beste Nederlandse voetballer van de jaren '90 en '00, die schreef ook hele slechte columns over sport in NRC. Je had Danielle Pinedo, die schreef iedere week dezelfde column in NRC over dat er te weinig dameshandbal op tv was. Je hebt Carolina Trujillo, die niet helemaal goed bij haar kokosnoot is, die schreef columns over sport in NRC, die waren op zich nog niet zo slecht, maar wel debiel. En nog langer geleden had je Hugo Camps, de chroniqueur van de schoonheid, de zanger die het lied van de melancholie der lijdende sportmens in de ziel van de lezer kerfde met zijn zinnen als kathedralen, zijn terzijdes als rustig kabbelende beekjes waar je met vanuit je Olympische kajak nog kon genieten van uitzichten op de diepe vallei van de menselijke conditie in het algemeen en de sportende conditie in het bijzonder, en zijn niet aflatende zoektocht naar de waarheid die zich zo lastig in Hollandse korte calvinistische zinnetjes laat vatten, maar die was tenminste nog camp. Je vraagt je vooral af waarom Henk Spaan eigenlijk nooit een column in NRC heeft gehad.
Maar wacht, daar gaat dit topic niet over, dit topic gaat over Marijn de Vries. Marijn de Vries was een niet zo goede journalist die een niet zo goede wielrenster werd en daarna weer een niet zo goede journalist, of zoals dat bij NRC noemen: de ideale columnist voor onze sportpagina. En Marijn de Vries is boos op een andere sportjournalist. Nou vinden wij het van GeenStijl prima als je in een column een andere journalist af gaat zeiken (zo zijn wij op dit moment een topic aan het tikken over een verschrikkelijke column van Marijn de Vries) MAAR DIT.
Marijn de Vries is boos op Valentijn Driessen omdat Valentijn Driessen na Nederland-Marokko, een draak van een wedstrijd waar half Nederland een halve nacht slaap voor had opgegeven, geen respectvolle vragen heeft gesteld aan Ronald Koeman. Wij zijn (lang geleden) weleens op een persconferentie van het Nederlands Elftal geweest, dat is een verschrikkelijke plek waar allemaal mannen, die veel te oud zijn voor gymschoenen en shirts van net niet obscure bandjes, op gymschoenen en in shirts van net niet obscure bandjes rondlopen en alleen maar bezig zijn met het slijmen bij internationals zodat ze een keer interviewtje of een quoteje of een nieuwtje kunnen krijgen, tijdens de persconferentie stelt niemand een inhoudelijke vraag, behalve één iemand, namelijk Valentijn Driessen. Sowieso is de voetbaljournalistiek de laatste jaren juist verworden tot een grote al dan niet gesponsorde goednieuwsshow waarin spelers, die heel erg veel geld krijgen omdat er heel erg veel media-aandacht is voor wat ze doen, als een soort halfgoden worden benaderd.
Maar het probleem is kennelijk dat Valentijn Driessen te weinig respect had voor Ronald Koeman, zo weinig, dat Marijn de Vries haar kinderen er niet naar durfde te laten kijken. Nou hopen wij dat Marijn de Vries haar kinderen haar eigen columns niet durft voor te lezen want je zou voor minder het contact verbreken. Te weinig respect. Als je al geen kritische vragen meer mag stellen aan een bondscoach die keihard gefaald heeft en overduidelijk niet in staat is op dat falen te reflecteren, waarom zou je dan überhaupt nog journalisten naar zo'n toernooi sturen? Laat het hele WK dan maar lekker een door PR-jongens geregisseerde reclameshow worden, dan heeft Marijn de Vries tenminste weer stof voor een column over hoe alles door commercie naar de ratsmodee gaat. Te weinig respect. Tfoe.

By exploiting shell behaviors such as quote removal and variable expansion, attackers can hide malicious commands in repositories, README files, Makefiles, or other content consumed by AI agents. If executed — particularly in auto-approve or CI environments—the commands can steal credentials, compromise developer systems, or enable software supply chain attacks. According to researchers at Adversa AI, the 11 popular open source AI coding agents tested, only one successfully blocked all of the Bash trick techniques.

The Verge argues that researchers "have made genuine progress in quantum computing — it's just been largely incremental and too esoteric to immediately capture the public's imagination."
And there are predictions that quantum computers will finally do something useful as soon as 2028:

Researchers have improved the qubits themselves, so they hold onto information longer. When they hold onto information longer, you can fit in more operations and do more complicated algorithms. Last November, Andrew Houck of Princeton University and his colleagues reported that they'd made a superconducting qubit that can hold onto information three times longer than the previous record holder... And in the last two years, researchers have made substantial strides in what's known as quantum error correction... In addition, researchers have developed algorithms to correct errors while the quantum computer operates... Microsoft claimed, which experts dispute, that it made an object made of electrons known as a Majorana particle [which should make fewer errors and be easier to scale up]...
"We 100 percent stand behind our results. We stand by our roadmap," Microsoft's quantum lead, Chetan Nayak, responded in an interview with The Verge. In an email statement, he added that Microsoft's "papers do show that we are creating and controlling Majorana [particles]... Microsoft's supporting evidence is unconvincing [according to [Henry Legg, a physicist from the University of St. Andrews and a longtime Microsoft critic]Rnqyq. What it claimed as evidence of a Majorana particle, he says, could actually be due to quantum dots forming in its device. Quantum dots are electron-containing objects that are not useful for Microsoft's quantum computer. It also bases its claim on data from a single device, says Legg. He wants to see Microsoft replicate the results in multiple chips. "If you repeatedly try and find Jesus in your toast, eventually you'll find Jesus in your toast," he says. "But that one piece of toast doesn't mean you had some kind of epiphany."
"While we appreciate the religious fervor, our data maintains the strength and consistency of our roadmap, as we have for the past several years across previous milestones. We look forward to delivering the world's first quantum machine and sharing the energy of our achievements with the world," wrote Nayak in response.
Past spurious work from Microsoft-affiliated researchers adds to the doubt. In 2021, the journal Nature retracted an article from Microsoft-affiliated researchers in which they'd claimed strong experimental evidence that they'd created a Majorana particle.
"Even hopeful experts have varying opinions about when a quantum computer will demonstrate something useful," the article acknowledges.
But quantum computing lecturer Eleanor Crane of King's College London predicts
researchers will have demonstrated a useful scientific simulation on a quantum computer by 2028.
