Dichter en theatermaker Gershwin Bonevacia groeide op in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde. Als jongen van Zuid weet hij een heel nieuw publiek naar het theater te krijgen. “Ik krijg appjes met de vraag: ‘Wat moet ik eigenlijk voor kleding aantrekken als ik naar jouw voorstelling kom?’”
Een 31-jarige man uit Macedonië is in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag op de Maasvlakte aangereden door een auto. Het slachtoffer raakte gewond en is met een ambulance naar het ziekenhuis gebracht.
NEW YORK (ANP) - Bij een schietincident in Coney Island, in New York City, zijn zeker acht mensen gewond geraakt. Volgens ABC News zijn onder de gewonden vier kinderen.
Een 21-jarige vrouw is er volgens de nieuwssite ernstig aan toe. Het schietincident vond zaterdagavond lokale tijd plaats, tijdens de viering van de onafhankelijkheid en het 250-jarig bestaan van de VS. De politie heeft een vuurwapen gevonden, maar nog niemand gearresteerd.
Volgens The New York Post waren de slachtoffers naar vuurwerk aan het kijken.
AMSTERDAM (ANP) - Aan de Slotermeerlaan in Amsterdam zijn in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag drie mensen gewond geraakt door een aanrijding tussen een motorscooter en een fatbike. De 18-jarige Amsterdamse bestuurder van de motorscooter is aangehouden. Een politiewoordvoerder laat weten dat het voertuig als gestolen te boek stond en dat de man zonder rijbewijs reed.
Op de plek waar het ongeval gebeurde, was het zaterdagavond laat druk na de winst van Marokko op Canada op het WK. Er waren honderden feestende mensen op straat, waar scooters, fatbikes en fietsers door elkaar krioelden, soms met meerdere mensen op een voertuig. Ook auto's reden ertussen. Dat ging lang en soms op een haar na goed, zag een verslaggever. Tot het ongeluk rond middernacht.
De scooterbestuurder is inmiddels ontslagen uit het ziekenhuis en overgebracht naar het cellencomplex. Of de twee jongens die op de fatbike zaten het ziekenhuis ook hebben verlaten, weet de woordvoerder niet, maar volgens hem waren hun verwondingen in ieder geval niet levensbedreigend.
ROTTERDAM (ANP) - In Rotterdam en Dordrecht zijn in totaal tien aanhoudingen verricht die de politie linkt aan de WK-wedstrijd tussen Marokko en Canada van zaterdagavond. Dat meldt een woordvoerder.
Na de overwinning van het Marokkaanse elftal werd in Rotterdam en Dordrecht feestgevierd. Daarbij ontstond op enkele plekken onrust. Onder meer baldadigheid, het plegen van geweld en het afsteken van vuurwerk waren redenen voor een aanhouding.
De woordvoerder weet niet of de aangehouden personen nog vastzitten.

It was 10am and scores of people had gathered at a private members’ club in Brussels for a conference to mark 250 years of American independence, organised by Viktor Orbán’s favourite thinktank in the EU capital, MCC Brussels.
Opening the one-day event, the MCC director, Frank Furedi, said the 250th anniversary had “really escaped the attention of a European audience” in a speech that lauded the founding fathers before launching a sweeping attack on Europe’s “incompetent political class”.

The story of two young women in Brooklyn; their jobs, friends and love lives as, despite their best efforts, they find themselves growing up. We were fortunate enough get an epilogue in 2021.
