Sanction moves DeChambeau out of second place
Bryson DeChambeau’s ongoing participation in the Open Championship is in doubt after extraordinary scenes at the conclusion of the 32-year-old’s second round at Royal Birkdale.
DeChambeau was handed a two-stroke penalty for improving the line of his swing in thick rough, and the scenario prompted a furious response from the American. The sanction shifted him out of second place and an initial position of one stroke behind the leader, Lucas Herbert.

Longtime Slashdot reader schwit1 shares a report from Axios: Kimi K3, a massive new model by Beijing-based Moonshot AI, threatens the foundations of Americas AI boom. Its release Thursday dazzled developers, jolted Silicon Valley and reset the AI race overnight. Kimi immediately vaulted into the top tier of global AI, beating Anthropic's Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol in front-end coding tests by AI evaluator Arena.
In Arenas broader text ranking, Kimi finished ahead of Anthropics Opus 4.8 -- the company's flagship model until Fable 5 arrived in June -- while costing 40% less. Unlike the premium U.S. models its challenging, Moonshot plans to release Kimi as an open-weight model on July 27 -- allowing companies and governments to customize and run it on their own systems.
Kimi's arrival suggests that cushion may have collapsed far faster than expected. "The entire game has changed. I expect this will trigger some code red for some," AI analyst Kim Isenberg predicted. For companies, governments and developers, a model that performs near the frontier, costs 40% less and can be customized or run in-house may be the more attractive option. CARACAS (ANP/BLOOMBERG) - Meer dan 5000 mensen zijn omgekomen bij de aardbevingen die Venezuela eind juni troffen. Dat heeft parlementsvoorzitter Jorge Rodríguez vrijdag bekendgemaakt.
Uit de nieuwste cijfers blijkt dat het dodental is gestegen tot 5069. Zeker driehonderd van de slachtoffers zijn nog niet geïdentificeerd. Meer dan 6400 mensen zijn levend onder het puin vandaan gehaald. Eerder was al bekendgemaakt dat 16.740 personen gewond zijn geraakt door de bevingen. Het is onduidelijk hoeveel mensen nog vermist worden.
De twee aardbevingen, met een kracht van 7.2 en 7.5, waren een van de dodelijkste natuurrampen in Latijns-Amerika in jaren. Ook zijn duizenden mensen dakloos geraakt.
LICHTENVOORDE (ANP) - Ook de tweede stuntman die zich op het Achterhoekse festival de Zwarte Cross heeft gewaagd aan de "katapultsprong" is gewond geraakt. Laurent Arrabito heeft bij de landing zijn enkel gebroken, meldt de organisatie vrijdagavond op Instagram. Donderdag moest collega-stuntman Jim van Nes al naar het ziekenhuis toen hij na de sprong van 75 meter verkeerd terechtkwam. Vanwege het uitvallen van de stuntmannen wordt de katapultstunt de komende dagen niet meer uitgevoerd.
"Laurent maakt het verder goed, maar vanwege dit letsel heeft de huldiging op het landingsdeck niet kunnen plaatsvinden", aldus de Zwarte Cross. Volgens het festival is de stunt technisch "wederom goed verlopen".
De organisatie benadrukt dat er bij alle stunts risico's komen kijken en dat alle mogelijke voorbereidingen worden getroffen om deze zo klein mogelijk te maken. "Dat doen wij niet alleen, maar ook in nauw overleg met overheid, keuringsinstanties en natuurlijk de professionele stuntmensen."
DEN HAAG (ANP) - De Marokkaanse autoriteiten hebben met hulp van hacksoftware geprobeerd journalisten te bespioneren, onder wie een Nederlandse correspondent. Dat schrijft de Spaanse krant El Confidencial op basis van een lijst die het in handen heeft met daarop mobiele nummers die de Marokkaanse inlichtingendienst tussen 2018 en 2019 probeerde te hacken.
Volgens de Spaanse krant waren 250 Spaanse mobieltjes die doelwit waren slechts een fractie van de spionagecampagne die Marokko tot eind 2021 voerde. De Nederlandse journalist die met zijn nummer op de lijst stond, is Koen Greven. Hij was vanaf 2015 meer dan zes jaar correspondent in Spanje, Portugal en Marokko voor NRC. Tegenwoordig is hij chef Sport bij persbureau ANP.
Greven kan zich goed voorstellen dat hij op de lijst van de Marokkaanse inlichtingendienst stond. "Ik ben wel eens door de veiligheidsdienst verzocht het land te verlaten", zegt hij. Als correspondent schreef hij onder meer over de protesten over het Rifgebergte, in het noorden van Marokko. "De Marokkaanse veiligheidsdienst reist met me mee", schreef Greven zelf in een column in NRC in 2018.
Greven ziet geen aanleiding om stappen te ondernemen. Of hij daadwerkelijk gehackt is, weet hij niet. Hij heeft dat Spaanse nummer ook niet meer.
De software die Marokko gebruikte om te kunnen spioneren was volgens de Spaanse krant Pegasus, dat van Israëlische makelij is.
