It is reportedly the highest publicly recorded bounty offered by any Russian region for downing Ukrainian drones.
AMSTERDAM (ANP) - Met een uitgebreide ceremonie heeft het Allard Pierson Museum woensdag in Amsterdam een antieke vaas teruggegeven aan Sicilië. Het is een aardewerken vaas met deksel uit de derde eeuw voor Christus, met daarop geschilderd een bruiloftstafereel.
De vaas, een zogeheten pyxis uit het Siciliaanse dorp Centuripe, werd ooit illegaal opgegraven. Ergens na 1979 werd het object illegaal uitgevoerd uit Sicilië en in 1997 zonder herkomstpapieren of exportvergunning aan het museum verkocht op de kunstbeurs Tefaf.
Het Allard Pierson zegt de vaas terug te geven "op ethische gronden". Er is geen wettelijke verplichting. Nederland ratificeerde pas in 2009 een Unesco-verdrag uit 1970 dat voorwaarden stelt aan verwerving van archeologische objecten. Daardoor kan het museum niet worden beticht van heling. Het Allard Pierson is overgegaan tot restitutie om de goede relatie tussen het museum en de Italiaanse autoriteiten in stand te houden.
Een oude VHS-band kan een klein fortuin waard zijn. Maar alleen als het precies de juiste is.
Wie nog een doos met video banden heeft, doet er goed aan die nog eens open te trekken en door te spitten. Verzamelaars betalen tegenwoordig flinke bedragen voor VHS, vooral voor eerste edities die nog ongeschonden in het plastic zitten.
Maar let op: een populaire filmtitel alleen is niet genoeg. Zeldzaamheid, uitvoering en staat bepalen voor een groot gedeelte de waarde.
Star Wars-band van € 17.746
Op 4 mei 2026 bracht een verzegelde videoband van de eerste Star Wars-film uit 1984 bij Heritage Auctions omgerekend € 17.746 op. Dit was geen gewoon exemplaar. Een erkend keuringsbedrijf gaf de band een beoordeling van 9,8 en de verzegeling kreeg een A+. Het ging bovendien om een vroege CBS Fox Video-uitgave met speciale kenmerken waar verzamelaars foxwild van worden.
Het hoogste bedrag dat ooit voor een VHS-film is betaald komt op € 101.154, voor een ander ongeopend exemplaar van Star Wars: A New Hope.
Biff Tannens band: € 66.549
Voor Star Wars het record overnam, stond Back to the Future bovenaan. In 2022 ging een verzegeld exemplaar uit 1986 voor € 66.549 over de toonbank. Het bijzondere is dat de band uit de collectie van acteur Tom Wilson kwam, die in de film Biff Tannen speelt.
Zoek je online naar Disney-banden, dan zie je soms vraagprijzen van tienduizenden euro's. Voorzichtig daarmee. Een vraagprijs zegt niets over wat de kenner er echt voor over heeft.
De top 10 van Disney-films op VHS op eBay heeft vraagprijzen van € 60.000 tot bijna € 1 miljoen. Het hoogste gedocumenteerde verkoopbedrag bij een veilinghuis is veel lager: € 7.764, begin 2023 voor een verzegelde Cars-band uit 2006 bij Heritage Auctions.
En in Nederland?
De hoogste bedragen komen vaak van Amerikaanse verzamelaars. In Nederland staat op Marktplaats op dit moment een geseald exemplaar van de cultfilm Wild at Heart (1990) voor € 250 te koop. Ook een VHS-band met een documentaire over Michael Jackson staat te koop voor € 200. Doordat Netflix deze zomer een nieuwe driedelige serie over de ‘King of Pop’ uitbracht, hoopt de verkoper te cashen.
Waarom nu?
De opleving past in een bredere nostalgietrend. Ook vinylplaten, walkmans en oude spelcomputers zijn weer populair. Wie in de jaren 80 en 90 opgroeide met de videotheek, verzamelt nu de spullen uit zijn jeugd. Het tastbare karakter trekt ook jongere verzamelaars aan en sommige films zijn nauwelijks online te vinden. In 2026 opende er in Amsterdam met Club VHS in het Eye Filmmuseum zelfs weer een fysieke videotheek.
Zo check je jouw banden
De hoogste bedragen gaan naar vroege uitgaven die nog verzegeld zijn. Een zeldzame verpakking, bijzondere promotieversie of aantoonbaar kleine oplage kan de prijs sterk verhogen.
- Kijk verder dan de titel. Vergelijk jaartal, uitgever, verpakking en eventuele codes op de hoes.
- Kijk naar afgeronde veilingen en verkochte advertenties, niet naar vraagprijzen.
- Reken jezelf niet rijk. Een spectaculaire vraagprijs betekent niet dat iemand die ook betaalt.

BAKOE (ANP) - Judoka Joanne van Lieshout heeft zich op de WK in Azerbeidzjan geplaatst voor de halve finales van de klasse tot 63 kilogram. De 23-jarige Brabantse versloeg in de kwartfinales de Tsjechische Renata Zachová met een yuko. Ze treft later woensdag in de halve finales de Japanse titelverdediger Haruka Kaju.
Van Lieshout veroverde in 2024 in Abu Dhabi de wereldtitel. Vorig jaar strandde ze op de WK in Boedapest in de achtste finales. Eerder dit jaar werd ze in Tbilisi Europees kampioen.
Van Lieshout had een bye in de eerste ronde. Daarna versloeg ze in de tweede ronde de Oostenrijkse Lubjana Piovesana en vervolgens in de achtste finales de Poolse Natalia Kropska.
AMSTERDAM (ANP) - Het Openbaar Ministerie verdenkt twee mannen ervan dat zij in juli vanuit Kopenhagen naar Nederland zijn gevlogen om liquidaties te plegen in Amsterdam en Haarlem. Dat bleek woensdag tijdens een eerste voorbereidende zitting in de rechtbank Amsterdam. De politie kon de liquidatiepoging in Haarlem voorkomen. In Amsterdam werd een beoogd doelwit beschoten. Hij raakte niet gewond.
Volgens justitie zijn de twee, geboren in Somalië en wonend in Zweden, ingehuurd door een internationaal crimineel netwerk voor twee geplande moorden in de nacht van 8 op 9 juli. "De onderwereld werft jongeren als kindsoldaten", zei de officier van justitie. Het onderzoek naar deze zaak begon na een tip op 8 juli van de Zweedse autoriteiten, die luidde dat een taxireservering voor een ritje van Schiphol naar een hotel in Amsterdam verband zou houden met een gewelddadige opdracht.
Walid A. (19) en een 18-jarige medeverdachte, Mohamed A., zouden op 7 juli vanuit de Deense hoofdstad zijn geland op Schiphol. De dag daarna zouden zij een fatbike hebben gekocht en wapens hebben gekregen in Amsterdam. Het OM verdenkt twee vrouwelijke verdachten van het leveren van deze wapens. De fiets zou betaald zijn door een derde. Walid A. werd kort na de mislukte liquidatie aangehouden in een hotel in Amsterdam. Bij hem werd een wapen aangetroffen. Hij stond woensdag voor het eerst voor de rechter, samen met de twee vermeende wapenleveranciers Nursena Y. (24) uit Dieren en Saloua G. (20) uit Cuijk.
Aanhouding medeverdachte
De medeverdachte is in juli aangehouden in Denemarken op grond van een Europees aanhoudingsbevel. Na de mislukte liquidatie is op zijn mogelijke vluchtroute een pet gevonden met daarop zijn DNA. Dat leverde een match op met een DNA-profiel in de Zweedse databank. Ook zijn op zijn telefoon instructies gevonden en zoekopdrachten naar locaties waar de liquidaties hadden moeten plaatsvinden: de Slauerhoffstraat in Amsterdam en de Cornelia de Langestraat in Haarlem. De man is op 26 september overgeleverd aan Nederland. Zijn zaak wordt behandeld tijdens de volgende inleidende zitting op 9 december. De verdachten blijven tot die tijd in de cel.
Justitie denkt dat het conflict dat ten grondslag ligt aan de voorgenomen liquidaties nog niet is opgelost. Waar dit conflict om draait, is niet bekendgemaakt. Het OM verwacht op korte termijn een of meer verdachten aan te houden, zei de officier. Het politieonderzoek richt zich nu op de achterliggende organisatie die de verdachte heeft aangestuurd en gefaciliteerd.
Apple just released a system called “Reference Image.” It can verify the image is exactly as taken by an iPhone—new models only—without tying it to a specific iPhone or photographer. It can also verify that multiple images came from the same iPhone.
Other industry solutions require a photographer or institution to vouch for an image using their own credentials. We are concerned this puts some photographers, such as those operating in conflict zones, in a difficult position; it should not be necessary to forgo anonymity in order to prove image authenticity. We built Apple Reference Image to avoid using an explicit, public credential for photographers, and to avoid even implicit public association between different photos taken by the same sensor. The final reference image is instead signed by Apple’s signing service, after validation by PCC. That signature is backed by Apple’s strongest technical guarantees.
Our implementation also protects the confidentiality of the image itself, including from Apple. Merely capturing a reference image should never expose the actual pixels to Apple or anyone else. We achieve this through the exceptional privacy properties of PCC the nodes themselves are architected so that not even Apple can access image data, just as Apple cannot see the information processed for Apple Intelligence in PCC. While the revocation service must maintain a private record of photo GUIDs and associated sensors to allow for revocation, it never has access to the image data, and does not allow for public access to this record. And as final revocation checks occur using on-device lists, a device never reveals to anyone which photo it’s looking at in order to find out whether it’s still valid.

Bob Davenport, who has died aged 94, was an unaccompanied folk singer and key figure in the British folk revival of the 1950s through to the end of the century. He had a powerful tenor voice that was guaranteed to silence the noisiest of bars. In 1963 he performed with Bob Dylan and Joan Baez at the Newport folk festival.
Not that he would have welcomed the description “folk” singer. Not for Bob were the definitions of folk music promulgated by the early 20th-century collectors such as Cecil Sharp, who rejected music-hall songs and parlour ballads, and who largely ignored what members of the urban working class were singing. For Bob, folk music was for the middle classes; he preferred the term traditional music.

It was on the Portman Road pitch, bathed in bright early May light while immersed in the relief and joy of a third promotion in five years, that Kieran McKenna realised the moment was right. The thought had flickered earlier in the season that this might be his final campaign at Ipswich, only to be pushed into the subconscious by the Championship’s remorseless grind. “But standing out there, I felt this was probably time,” he says of those moments after QPR had been swept aside and a return to the Premier League assured. “Another big victory, a full stadium, in front of my family and the fans. It was an amazing way to go out on a high.”
Five months later McKenna has no regrets about electing to cut things short while the going was so good. The golf bag lying outside his garage speaks of a man enjoying the break and, more pertinently, of something bigger. His son has recently become interested in the sport and sharing those moments with loved ones, whether out on the greens or spending part of the summer travelling along the East Anglian coastline in a camper van, were among the biggest reasons to pause a soaring career. At 40, McKenna had spent two decades immersed in coaching; it was time to appreciate life’s essentials while continuing professional development at his own speed.

Ja welkom bij boomerkunst omdat het moet door de Deense Jens Galschiøt (72). Een wat luie variant op hetzelfde beeld dat hij altijd al maakt van morbide obese mensen op de schouders van schlemielen, maar nu dus met Trump. Kan allemaal hè, maar om het nou genaamd 'The Orange Plague' in het EUROPARLEMENT te parkeren, da's een tweede. En omdat boomerkunst niet kan zonder een onmiddellijke letterlijke uitleg van wat toch al heel evident was, staat onder het beeld wat er uitgebeeld wordt: "I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden. I would do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back – The King of Injustice." Het standbeeld is er geplaatst op initiatief van Deense 'Rood-Groene' EP'er Per Clausen (70), die over een eventuele, aanstaande tirade van Trump zegt: "If someone is so thin-skinned that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage". Ja weet je okay het zal ook allemaal wel. Het standbeeld blijft nog een week tentoongesteld in Straatsburg.

The FBI and US Secret Service (USSS) say criminals using credentials linked to the FortiBleed campaign are locking organizations out of their Fortinet firewalls. The agencies published a joint advisory on Tuesday, citing SOCRadar's verification of more than 86,644 compromised devices across 194 countries. "Based on initial responses, some victims may get locked out of their Fortinet devices if the threat actor either deletes or changes the password for original accounts on the system," their advisory [PDF] states. "During the initial intrusion, threat actors create new accounts not previously on the device. In certain cases, threat actors delete existing accounts to block organizations from accessing affected devices and to maintain persistence on the system while attempting lateral movement within the environment." The campaign targets internet-facing FortiGate firewalls and SSL VPN gateways. Criminals use credentials from earlier breaches and infostealer logs for credential stuffing and password spraying, then extract password hashes from compromised devices and crack them offline using GPU-accelerated clusters. The agencies urged organizations to restrict internet-facing management access, terminate active administrative and VPN sessions, reset passwords, and enable phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication. The advisory also links FortiBleed to ransomware campaigns, saying initial access brokers supplied compromised-network access to ransomware affiliates. The Register previously reported on the connection, identified by SOCRadar. The current evidence points to affiliates working for the INC/Lynx and Payload ransomware groups making use of the credentials, and SOCRadar said in July that it had seen at least 12 confirmed ransomware attacks stemming from FortiBleed. The agencies encouraged victims to report incidents, while noting that organizations were not obliged to provide information in response to this advisory. The FBI and the Secret Service said victim reports could help identify indicators of compromise and warned against paying ransoms. ®
