‘Is he a nice guy? No. He’s a good guy’: how Harry Kane became an England great

Figures who worked with striker in his formative years recall a self-belief – even when his talent did not stand out

There is another version of reality in which Harry Kane is not England’s greatest goalscorer but a goalkeeper. On his first day at Ridgeway Rovers, his first club, the coach Dave Bricknell asked whether anyone fancied going in goal. A six-year-old Kane threw up his hand – and he was pretty good.

“I thought I’d found a goalkeeper,” Bricknell says. “At that age, you don’t get many kids that don’t mind standing in front of a ball.”

‘His legacy is cringe’: how Charlie Kirk became a punchline among the young - even his supporters

Crude memes of the Maga luminary are exploding online – less than a year after conservatives were suppressing any slander against him

Ten months since his assassination, Charlie Kirk’s name and likeness are still proliferating online. Just not the way the far-right activist would have wanted.

Audio of the gunshot that killed him has become a TikTok meme, as have ironic reposts of the apparent AI-slop song We Are Charlie Kirk, which was originally created as a posthumous tribute. He was the butt of a crude joke during the Netflix roast of Hollywood star Kevin Hart in May. The next month, a viral tweet encouraged people to take “a shot” in his honor on Juneteenth. And a trend known as “Kirkification” has emerged, in which internet pranksters superimpose his face on to unlikely images, such as the Mona Lisa, a woman in a bikini, or Jeffrey Epstein.

Jack White: Frozen Charlotte review – brutal, squalid blues-rock that just about sells its own ridiculousness

(Third Man)
Following the superb No Name, White continues his fan service with stripped back songs and nasty, anarchic riffs – though it all ends up feeling a little samey

It’s a strange thing to say about one of the most prolific artists of his – or any – generation, but: Jack White has been undergoing something of a career renaissance of late. After firmly establishing himself as one of the most beloved and defining figures of 21st-century rock with his early-00s blues duo the White Stripes, White seemed to get bigger and bigger over the next decade-plus, releasing albums with well-liked side projects the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather, dropping a couple of fine solo albums, and helping spark the music industry’s vinyl revival with his label and pressing plant Third Man Records.

But, at some point in the mid-2010s – around the release of his third solo album, 2018’s Boarding House Reach, let’s say – White’s influence and celebrity seemed to be outweighing his actual output, with rising pop stars like Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo naming him a prime influence. Record plants the world over became backed-up, thanks to pop stars releasing dozens of gimmicky vinyl variants of their own albums, resulting in months-long delays for indie artists – hardly a problem White was responsible for (and likely one he himself was annoyed by), but certainly the result of a craze he had helped spark. At the same time, all the quirks and codes of White’s output – the specific colour schemes and sometimes arcane guiding opinions – threatened to overwhelm the immediacy and sharpness that had once been the core of White’s actual music.

@berkes Oh Gawd. I feel your pain. Had our campervan once broke down in Spain. The dutch overwinteraars liked it very much we were towed away from the campsite. Fortunately our van could be fixed the same day. I found that normal back then, thinking about it now? We were so lucky, because it's like you said, it's you home and transport. And when in a garage, you have nothing.
Hope you get things sorted out without too much stress.

Accenture admits to 'isolated matter' after crook tries to flog alleged 35GB haul

Accenture has confirmed an "isolated matter" after a cybercriminal put up for sale what they allege is 35GB of the consulting giant's internal data, including source code, cryptographic keys, and cloud credentials. The listing, seen by The Register, appeared on a cybercrime forum on July 6 under the title "Accenture Data Breach," posted by a user with the handle "888." The seller claimed the stolen archive contained source code alongside RSA keys, SSH keys, Azure Personal Access Tokens (PATs), Azure Storage access keys, configuration files, and other technical material. “Today I am selling the Accenture Data Breach, thanks for reading and enjoy!” the cyber baddie wrote. To back up the claim, the seller published what appeared to be a screenshot of a cloned Azure DevOps repository named "121123_AtriasTalentAcademy," hosted under a censored accenture.com domain. The post also advertised the dataset for sale in exchange for Monero. Accenture confirmed to The Register that it had investigated the matter, although it stopped well short of describing it as a breach. "We are aware of this isolated matter and we have remediated its source," Accenture spokesperson Andy Rowlands said. "There is no impact to Accenture operations and service delivery." The Register asked how the compromise occurred, what systems were affected, and exactly what data was taken. Accenture did not respond. If the allegedly stolen files are authentic, this isn't somebody flogging old HR spreadsheets. Source code, private keys, access tokens, and cloud credentials are exactly the sort of material attackers prize because they can open doors into other systems if they haven't already been revoked. Threat intelligence firm SOCRadar noted that the same threat actorcyber criminals previously claimed responsibility for another Accenture-related incident in 2024, alleging that data connected to more than 32,000 current and former employees had been exposed through a third-party compromise. Whether that earlier claim was genuine remains unclear. So far, Accenture is keeping the technical details to itself. Whether this was a single exposed repository or something with a longer tail is anyone's guess until the company decides to say more. ®

"Ok", aldus mijn vader.
