WASHINGTON (ANP) - De Amerikaanse minister van Volksgezondheid Robert F. Kennedy zal de Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vragen nieuwe richtlijnen te ontwikkelen voor de behandeling van mazelen met medicijnen en vitamines. Dit zei een woordvoerder van het Amerikaanse ministerie van Volksgezondheid, aldus CBS News.
Kennedy kreeg kritiek vanwege het recordaantal mazelenuitbraken dit jaar. Hij houdt ook mythes over mazelenvaccins in stand, meldt de Amerikaanse nieuwszender verder.
Hoewel de gezondheidsdienst CDC vaccinatie blijft aanbevelen "als de meest effectieve manier om de ziekte te voorkomen", staat in de verklaring dat erkend wordt dat sommige Amerikanen "er mogelijk voor kiezen zich niet te laten vaccineren", aldus CBS News.
VOORSCHOTEN (ANP) - Bij een uitslaande schuurbrand aan de Papelaan in het Zuid-Hollandse Voorschoten zijn twee woningen beschadigd geraakt. Dat meldt de Veiligheidsregio Hollands Midden op X.
De brand brak in de nacht van donderdag op vrijdag uit en de brandweer meldde om 03.09 uur vrijdagochtend de brand meester te zijn.

Nature: A forthcoming policy from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) will target - and at least temporarily stop -- funding to laboratories and hospitals outside the United States, threatening thousands of global-health projects and international collaborations on topics such as emerging infectious diseases and cancer.
The NIH, the world's largest funder of biomedical research, plans to release the policy in the next week. Some agency staff members have already been instructed to hold funds for foreign institutions that are part of both new research grants and grants coming up for renewal, according to multiple agency employees who spoke to Nature under the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the press.
