In late October 1980, days before the election of Ronald Reagan, Congress summoned 20 experts in various fields to a beachfront hotel in Florida. Their mandate was simple: figure out how to address the dire threat posed to the climate by fossil fuel emissions, then deliver their recommendations to Congress in the form of a statement.

Every word said during four marathon sessions over the next 36 hours – every disagreement or digression, tirade or truce – was recorded by a stenographer for posterity into a single document, hundreds of pages long, that stands as an artifact from a time when expertise was trusted, before corporate greed and political expediency mired “debate” about rising levels of CO2 in the atmosphere in a haze of misinformation and inaction. The fact that this meeting took place at all – that experts in climate, energy, law, philosophy, politics and more agreed on the fundamental facts, yet struggled to reach consensus on what to do about them – is fascinating, if perhaps not the most natural fit for a movie. This was, after all, a conference room of specialists sharing evidence via overhead projector.

Steam on Linux use in March hit an all-time high of around 5.33% marketshare. Since then it pulled back to around 4% while for September 2026 the Steam Survey results... indicate a rather steep decline of 0.85%, down to 3.05%. Meanwhile macOS is at 1.92% and Microsoft Windows at 95%... Steam's Survey reports a 7.42% increase in Chinese use, up to 31.39% overall of the Steam population. Usually those large month-over-month swings where Steam China use shoots up dramatically is a boost to Windows and a detriment to Linux. Some attribute the large increases in Simplified Chinese use to being a reporting/sampling issue.

When diving into the Steam Linux data exclusively, CachyOS has spiked by another 2.65% to now account for 18.12% of the sampled Linux gaming population. That even outperforms SteamOS Holo coming in at 17.37%. Among Linux gamers on Steam, AMD CPUs still account for the high 60 percentage space thanks to the Steam Deck and Steam Machine using AMD APUs and their open-source/Linux support being popular with enthusiasts.

SANAA (ANP/RTR) - Jemenitische strijdkrachten van de internationaal erkende regering hebben aanvallen uitgevoerd op de Houthi's in de hoofdstad Sanaa en de noordelijke provincie Saada. Dat meldde een woordvoerder van de strijdkrachten in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag.

Volgens de woordvoerder waren de aanvallen gericht op belangrijke doelen van de door Iran gesteunde Houthi's. Hij gaf geen verdere details.

De door de Houthi's bestuurde zender Al Masirah meldde eerder dat Saudi-Arabië een aanval had uitgevoerd op Sanaa. Saudi-Arabië heeft dat niet bevestigd.

De Houthi's boekten de afgelopen weken grote terreinwinst langs de Rode Zee en voerden ook aanvallen uit op Saudi-Arabië en de scheepvaart. Daarbij verkregen ze onder meer controle over de strategisch belangrijke zeestraat Bab el-Mandeb.

De strijd tussen de Houthi's en troepen van de door Saudi-Arabië gesteunde regering lag sinds een bestand in 2022 grotendeels stil, maar is dit jaar weer opgelaaid. Saudi-Arabië heeft daarop luchtaanvallen uitgevoerd in Jemen en steunt regeringstroepen in hun strijd tegen de Houthi's.

WASHINGTON (ANP/AFP) - De Verenigde Staten hebben twee leden van de Iraanse delegatie bij de Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties het land uitgezet. Ze waren ondanks een bevel om te vertrekken in de VS gebleven, meldt het Amerikaanse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken zaterdag.

Volgens Amerikaanse media had het ministerie de Iraanse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Abbas Araghchi en zijn delegatie maandag opgedragen de VS te verlaten. Vrijdag bleek dat twee delegatieleden nog in New York waren. Een van hen vertrok vrijdagavond, de ander zaterdagochtend, meldt nieuwssite Axios.

Amerikaanse en Iraanse functionarissen spraken elkaar een week eerder in New York. President Donald Trump wees volgens Amerikaanse media een voorstel van Iran over heropening van de Straat van Hormuz af, maar zei te verwachten dat gesprekken snel zouden worden hervat. Het Iraanse staatspersbureau IRNA meldde dat geen nieuwe directe gesprekken met Washington gepland staan.
