The upper house of Zimbabwe’s parliament voted on Wednesday 75-4 in favour of the constitutional amendments, which will allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to stay in office until 2030 by extending presidential terms from five to seven years.

Claims health of staff and children at risk as France struggles to adapt heat-trap school buildings

Teachers in France are risking their own and students’ health in overheated schools as a severe heatwave sets new record temperatures, education unions said, urging staff to strike over “unacceptable working conditions”.

Several teaching unions on Thursday issued a joint statement denouncing a “blatant lack of preparation” by the government, after teachers have had to work in classrooms where temperatures reached up to 40C.

Andrea Egan, the general secretary of Unison, has backed the energy secretary, who is one of two frontrunners to replace Rachel Reeves in No 11, but who is being opposed by two other large unions – GMB and Unite.

SPIELBERG (ANP) - Kimi Antonelli en George Russell kunnen teamorders van Mercedes verwachten als een van de twee duidelijk sneller is en de druk van rivalen groot. Dat zei WK-leider Antonelli tegen verslaggevers op de persdag van de Formule 1, voorafgaand aan de Grote Prijs van Oostenrijk.

Antonelli heeft 41 punten voorsprong op Lewis Hamilton, die de vorige race in Barcelona won en nu als de grootste bedreiger van de jonge Italiaan wordt gezien. Teambaas Toto Wolff sprak na de race in Barcelona zijn ongenoegen uit over het feit dat teamgenoten Antonelli en Russell het gevecht met elkaar aangingen en daardoor tijd verspeelden. Hamilton profiteerde daarvan.

"Er is een vergadering over de kwestie geweest, en Toto was heel duidelijk", zei Antonelli. "Als we weer in een situatie zoals in Barcelona terechtkomen, onder druk van onze rivalen, dan komt er een teamorder, vooral als een van de twee auto's sneller is. Als we daarentegen zonder druk van een ander team tegen elkaar strijden, kunnen we vrijuit racen, net zoals in Montreal."
