The best known member of the band Hot Chocolate was their frontman Errol Brown, but in the engine room, co-writing their hit songs and playing bass, was Tony Wilson.

Wilson, who has died aged 89, set up Hot Chocolate with Brown in London in 1968, and had writing credits with Brown on You Sexy Thing, Love is Life, Brother Louie and Emma, all Top 10 UK singles in the early 1970s. With and without Brown, he also wrote various tracks for their first three albums.

Eyewitness video showed large ash clouds billowing from the Mayon volcano on Luzon island in the Philippines over the weekend. Emergency services issued alerts to nearby towns and more than 5,450 fled to emergency shelters.

Mayon is the most active volcano in the country and last erupted in 2023.

​De Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie houdt de uitbraak van het dodelijke hantavirus op een Nederlands cruiseschip nauwlettend in de gaten. Hoewel wetenschappers waarschuwen dat het virus wordt overgedragen door knaagdieren als muizen en ratten, is Jeffrey Scheffer (52) uit Sliedrecht niet onder de indruk: "Ik blijf gewoon aan muizen likken, ze kunnen me nog meer vertellen."

Het feit dat er aan boord van het cruiseschip doden zijn gevallen, bezorgt Jeffrey geen angst. "Misschien was dat het hantavirus, misschien niet. Maar ik heb zelf onderzoek gedaan en is er geen enkel bewijs dat muizen er iets mee te maken hebben." Hij laat een screenshot van de Facebookpagina 'Mouse Lickers United' zien. "In 1997 heeft een Zweedse apotheker een artikel geschreven waaruit blijkt dat muizen het hantavirus niet kunnen overdragen. Het is dus hartstikke veilig om die schatjes te likken."

We vragen Jeffrey of het niet verstandig zou zijn om uit voorzorg toch met zijn hobby te stoppen. Hij lacht er hartelijk om. "Dat zouden ze wel willen in Davos, hè? Mij krijgen ze niet gek hoor.
