ABHA (ANP/RTR) - De Houthi's hebben voor de tweede dag op rij meerdere Saudische steden aangevallen. Volgens de door Saudi-Arabië geleide coalitie die het in Jemen tegen de Houthi's opneemt, zijn onder meer Abha, Khamis Mushait en Jazan bestookt met ballistische raketten en drones.

Die steden werden dinsdag ook al onder vuur genomen. Toen raakten 73 mensen gewond. De Houthi's hebben de afgelopen weken vaak Saudische doelen beschoten, maar zo'n omvangrijke aanval als op dinsdag is zeldzaam.

Saudi-Arabië heeft de afgelopen twee dagen ook grote luchtaanvallen uitgevoerd op doelen van de Houthi's. Daarnaast zijn de Jemenitische regeringstroepen een nieuw offensief begonnen om gebied van de Houthi's te veroveren. De door Saudi-Arabië geleide coalitie heeft gezegd ook op de meest recente aanvallen te zullen reageren.

The Brazilian was a surprise omission from this week’s 30-strong list of candidates for the prestigious award but brushed any disappointment aside to continue his early season hot streak at a rain-soaked Camp Nou. The forward finished brilliantly in the third minute and added a second just before the hour mark to down the Eredivisie side and take his tally to eight goals in six outings at the start of the campaign.

Venice film festival: Edoardo De Angelis’s claustrophobic drama brings a raging mother up from Naples for the holidays, with a capon. What could possibly not go wrong?

If there were a Golden Lion award for the most Italian film in Venice competition it would go to Edoardo De Angelis’s squawking domestic spat of a picture which contains an imperious matriarch, a pained Catholic priest, an argumentative family, and food, so much food. Bowls are stirred and pans are brandished. Pots are seen rattling angrily on the stove. The festival organisers like to deploy a little judicious home cooking when it comes to the selection and De Angelis is already a favoured guest, having opened the 2023 event with his war drama Comandante. But I fear they may have miscalculated with this one. It’s overdone, on the turn and too liberally salted with tears. It’s liable to provoke the occasional stab of heartburn.

At the head of the table sits the incorrigible Angela (Vanessa Scalera). She’s up from Naples (where she was presumably once a girl from the backstreets, begging in rags) to supervise Christmas Eve dinner at her son’s book-lined apartment in Milan. Angela’s a relic of the old world, breezily unreconstructed and openly disgusted by the woke state of her grandchildren. “One’s a gay dancer and the other’s a vegetarian,” she scoffs. They in turn are perturbed by the fact that she has brought in a live chicken to be cooked as the main course. Who’s going to catch it? Who’s going to kill it? What even is this creature, exactly? “It’s not a hen, it’s a capon,” sighs middle-aged Anto (Lino Musella), who dearly wishes his mother had never come at all. She’s a beautiful woman, he says, but she smells.

Verzon ooit onder de naam Theranos ooit een gehele 'uitvinding' bij elkaar die voor een fractie van de gangbare prijs bloedanalyses uit kon voeren, haalde daarmee de ene na de andere gigant als Henry Kissinger, James Mattis en George Shultz aan boord als bestuurslid, en werd gevalueerd op $9 miljard zonder ook maar één werkend prototype. De 'docu' werd geschoten in de 5 weken voordat Holmes eind mei 2023 11 jaar naar de gevangenis ging, en schijnt nogal desoriënterend te zijn. Variety schrijft: 

"“You Can See Everything” is just about the furthest thing from a “pure” documentary you’ve ever seen. That’s part of its appeal — it’s a one-of-a-kind reality-TV-as-hangout-movie psychodrama circus. Yet it’s been made with a spirit of true inquiry, driven by Fielder’s acidly quizzical personality (...). Whatever the motivation, Fielder, who has often operated in a nether zone between fiction and reality, was looking for a project to collaborate on with Lance Oppenheim, a documentarian he’d become friendly with. (...) The Elizabeth Holmes we see has a winsome soft presence, with a Cupid’s-bow grin and eyes that beam without blinking too much. She resembles the ’80s and ’90s actress Kim Greist, and has a manner that’s disarming in its gentleness. Yet when Fielder asks about the crimes she was convicted of, she pleads a strange kind of ignorance. She claims she did nothing wrong, and it’s clear she believes it."
