Het probleem met te weinig gevangenissen hebben, is dat je mensen die een gevangenisstraf hebben gekregen niet gevangen kunt zetten. Maar gelukkig heeft dit kabinet iets bedacht. Wat nou, als je mensen die een gevangenisstraf hebben gekregen van ons ontzettend strenge rechtssysteem gewoon NIET in de gevangenis zet?

Daar had u nog niet aan gedacht natuurlijk. Maar staatssecretaris Van Bruggen van Justitie (die van deze crack over girlpower en heerlijk werken aan dossiers die ertoe doen) dus wel, volgens bronnen van de NOS. "Om iets te doen aan de overvolle gevangenissen worden meer gedetineerden overdag vrijgelaten. Ze mogen dan, onder toezicht van bijvoorbeeld een enkelband, buiten de gevangenismuren werken. In de avond moeten ze dan weer terugkeren om in de cel te slapen. Dat wil staatssecretaris Van Bruggen van Justitie, melden bronnen aan de NOS." En nu denkt u misschien: maar we laten gevangenen toch al twee weken eerder vrij? En daar heeft u helemaal gelijk in. "Het kabinet denkt eraan om dat te verlengen en mensen nog eerder vrij te laten." Kan Rob Jetten anders niet gewoon tien nieuwe cellencomplexen bouwen?

BERLIJN/PARIJS (ANP/RTR) - Ook landen in Europa hebben Venezuela hulp aangeboden na de dodelijke aardbevingen die daar hebben plaatsgevonden. Zo heeft Frankrijk besloten direct 85 gespecialiseerde reddingswerkers te sturen.

De Franse president Emmanuel Macron meldt na zijn contact met de Venezolaanse interim-president Delcy Rodríguez dat "Frankrijk samen met zijn Europese partners klaarstaat om hulp te bieden aan de getroffen bevolking". Het reddingsteam gaat volgens hem direct naar Venezuela.

Duitsland wil helpen met zes militaire transportvliegtuigen. Die kunnen op korte termijn worden ingezet voor het transport van reddingswerkers en materiaal van Duitsland naar Venezuela en vluchten binnen het Zuid-Amerikaanse land, aldus defensieminister Boris Pistorius. De bemanning bereidt zich volgens hem al voor op een eventuele inzet.

CARACAS (ANP/RTR) - De autoriteiten in Venezuela hebben het dodental na de zware aardbevingen naar boven bijgesteld. Er kwamen volgens interim-president Delcy Rodríguez zeker 164 mensen om het leven.

Formula One’s governing body has declared a heat ⁠hazard for the Austrian Grand Prix at Spielberg’s Red ⁠Bull Ring ⁠this ​weekend, the first time this season that the designation has ⁠been used.

The race director, Rui Marques, said the official weather service ⁠forecasts temperatures in excess of 31C during the race. Declaring a heat ‌hazard requires teams to fit a ‌driver cooling system, such as a liquid-cooled vest, though drivers are not obliged to use them and can take a ballast penalty instead.
