WAVER (ANP) - De hockeyers van Oranje hebben in de Pro League gelijkgespeeld tegen koploper België. Lang stond de ploeg van bondscoach Jeroen Delmee op voorsprong in Waver, maar zeven minuten voor tijd maakte Tom Boon gelijk: 2-2. Vervolgens verloor Oranje de shoot-outserie.

Namens Nederland was Pepijn van der Heijden twee keer vlak achter elkaar trefzeker. Zo werd een vroege achterstand omgebogen.

De olympisch kampioen speelt de komende dagen nog een keer tegen Australië en België. Als nummer 4 is de eindzege in de Pro League al uit zicht.

WASHINGTON (ANP) - De kritiek van Washington op de Europese bereidheid om de VS te helpen in de Amerikaans-Israëlische oorlog tegen Iran is maar ten dele gegrond. Dat zei NAVO-chef Mark Rutte woensdag in de Oval Office, tijdens een persmoment na een overleg met de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump.

"Ik ken uw irritaties", zei Rutte tegen Trump over diens aanhoudende kritiek op de bereidheid van Europese bondgenoten de VS te assisteren in het conflict. "Maar kijk naar de getallen: vier- tot vijfduizend Amerikaanse toestellen zijn opgestegen vanaf Europese bases."

Rutte noemde als voorbeeld de luchthaven van Boekarest, die tijdelijk sloot vanwege de Amerikaanse toestellen die gebruikmaakten van de luchthaven. Kritiek gericht op landen noemde Rutte "geïsoleerde gevallen". Rutte: "In algemene zin zijn uw Europese bondgenoten er voor u geweest."

De VS hekelen onder Trump al lange tijd de vermeende halfhartige bereidwilligheid het land te volgen in militaire conflicten. Dat ging met name over het openstellen van militaire bases voor Amerikaans gebruik, zoals voor doorvluchten of andere logistiek-strategische operaties. In het bijzonder Spanje kantte zich daartegen.

Rutte zei eerder tijdens zijn bezoek aan Washington tegen Fox News dat Italië had gediend als een belangrijke springplank voor de VS. Die opmerking schoot het land in het verkeerde keelgat, vooral omdat Italië geen voorstander was van het openstellen van zijn luchtmachtbases voor Amerikaans gebruik.

Enkele uren voorafgaand aan Ruttes optreden in de VS werd in Berlijn een ingelaste bijeenkomst van de E5 gehouden. Het VK, Frankrijk, Italië en Polen waren daar op uitnodiging van de Duitse bondskanselier Friedrich Merz om onder meer defensiezaken te bespreken. Ook Rutte belde in tijdens die bijeenkomst.

BIARRITZ (ANP) - Twee duikers worden vermist in het Franse Biarritz, nadat een deel van een klif in zee is gestort, schrijft de Franse krant Le Parisien. Op het strand van de bekende surfplaats was het woensdagavond erg druk toen het gebeurde, door de hittegolf waar Frankrijk mee te maken heeft.

Drie duikers bevonden zich ten tijde van de instorting waarschijnlijk onderaan de klif, meldt het departement Pyrénées-Atlantiques. "Er wordt aangenomen dat twee van deze duikers momenteel onder het puin begraven liggen."

Het is nog niet bekend hoe het deel van de klif kon instorten.

NEW YORK (ANP) - Drie rechters van het Internationaal Strafhof (ICC) spannen een rechtszaak aan tegen de regering van de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump. Ze vinden dat de sancties die tegen hen en andere medewerkers van het hof werden ingesteld de Amerikaanse wet overtreden.

The New York Times meldt dat in ieder geval twee van de rechters bankrekeningen in de VS hadden, die ze door de sancties niet meer kunnen gebruiken. Ook zegt een van de rechters tegen de krant dat haar creditcards en accounts bij Google en Amazon werden geblokkeerd.

De rechters zeggen dat de sancties alleen mogen worden ingezet in een noodsituatie, en dat daar geen sprake van was. In plaats daarvan zouden de sancties tegen hen zijn ingezet als strafmaatregel en dus onwettig zijn.

Het ICC kan mensen vervolgen voor schendingen van het internationaal recht, waaronder oorlogsmisdaden en genocide. De VS erkennen het hof niet en uitten er al vaker kritiek op. Het land stelde de sancties in naar aanleiding van onderzoeken naar Amerikanen en Israëliërs.

Frank swings into the West End with a swaggering turn from Joel Harper-Jackson and plenty of style yet the script is flat

Ol’ Blue Eyes is back: first staged in Birmingham three years ago and workshopped since, this Frank Sinatra bio-musical has now hit the West End with big band energy. Its intriguing premise is the star’s nadir, those messy years in the late 40s and early 50s when it seemed like an extraordinary talent might come to a wasteful, tragic end.

We begin at the Paramount theatre, when our heart-throb has everything going for him: screaming fans, a devoted spaghetti-cooking spouse, a movie about sailors with Gene Kelly that’s going to deal with the pesky accusations of draft-dodging. In the lead, Joel Harper-Jackson marries smooth vocal power to Sinatra’s signature swagger – the head wobble, the corner-of-the-mouth smirk. Our hero’s weakness for women is played as a comically charming character quirk, with a bed-hopping rendition of Come Fly With Me involving Lana Turner, Judy Garland and Marlene Dietrich.

AI vendors have been pushing organizations to board the AI hype train as it races by at full speed. But many of the companies doing so, unable to move quite that fast, have stumbled along the way. According to a survey of 406 IT decision makers, 93 percent of organizations have experienced AI-caused infrastructure incidents, but a mere 19 percent had the necessary governance to respond. The survey, conducted in April by Panterra Group at the behest of Spacelift, forms the basis of the orchestration platform's 2026 State of Infrastructure Automation report [PDF]. It posits an "AI Readiness Gap," meaning that companies are adopting AI before they're ready to do so and are paying the price. "The findings are unambiguous: organizations are using AI to generate infrastructure code at a rate their governance frameworks were never designed to handle,” said Paweł Hytry, co-founder and CEO of Spacelift, in a statement. The consequences of these incidents, respondents say, consist of reworking AI-generated changes (37 percent), security misconfigurations that reached production (36 percent), compliance violations (36 percent), infrastructure drift attributable to AI changes (35 percent), and incidents caused by agentic systems (33 percent). The report characterizes 24 percent of organizations as "exposed." "Exposed organizations are using AI, but without the governance or frameworks to support it safely," the report says. "What they are doing diverges significantly from what they have in place to manage it." And then there are the "fragmented" entities, 32 percent of respondents, that use AI sometimes, unevenly, and have some governance, but no coherent plan. The two remaining categories, "outpacing" and "pioneer," at 25 percent and 19 percent respectively, describe heavy AI adoption that's ahead of business controls, and AI use in conjunction with structural discipline, respectively. In terms of AI-caused infrastructure incidents, 97 percent of "exposed" organizations reported at least one such snafu. Meanwhile, among "pioneer" entities, 17 percent said they had no AI-related infrastructure incidents. Spacelift, an infrastructure-as-code (IaC) platform, contends that automated validation accounts for the difference here because it outperforms manual code review. Across the board, respondents report greater use of AI for generating code – 82 percent say between 25 percent and 74 percent of their code was created with help from AI. This has a downstream effect on the infrastructure teams that deploy said code: 40 percent of respondents say security vulnerabilities are showing up more frequently, 40 percent say governance has become more challenging, 37 percent cited higher change volume, 35 percent see strains on the development pipeline, and 35 percent report infrastructure drift. Spacelift's report calls out the cognitive dissonance – a blameless formulation of "self-delusion" – among organizations adopting AI: 86 percent say they can govern it, while only 30 percent actually have a formal AI governance policy in place. The report advises organizations to start paying attention to AI-oriented metrics that few organizations bother to track, specifically the volume of AI-generated IaC in deployment pipelines, error rates due to AI-generated changes, and infrastructure drift attributable to AI changes. It also stumps for greater automation through IaC, for building governance to cover that automation, getting AI-generated code into governed IaC orchestration workflows, and planning for the governance of AI agents. ®
