Op zondag zullen er bij vijf verschillende WK-stadions demonstraties plaatsvinden die aandacht vragen voor de extreme hitte tijdens het toernooi.

Tijdens het finaleweekend van het NK show-opgieten zetten saunameesters met licht, geluid en geur een hele voorstelling neer binnen een kwartier. Net het theater, maar dan in een gloeiend hete cabine en voor een naakt publiek.

MADRID (ANP) - In Madrid is een vertoning van de wedstrijd tussen Spanje en Saudi-Arabië op het WK voetbal op zondagavond afgelast vanwege de extreme hitte. Daartoe hebben de gemeente Madrid en de Spaanse voetbalbond zaterdag besloten. Spanje trapt in de Verenigde Staten om 18.00 uur Nederlandse tijd af tegen Saudi-Arabië.

De Spaanse weerdienst AEMET voorspelt in Madrid een maximumtemperatuur van 39 graden Celsius. Er is code oranje afgegeven vanwege de hoge temperaturen. Ook geldt er code geel vanwege mogelijke onweersbuien in de namiddag en avond.

De officiële vertoning zou plaatsvinden op het Plaza de Colón, voor het WK omgedoopt tot 'Plaza Selección'.

Regerend Europees kampioen Spanje begon aan het wereldkampioenschap met een gelijkspel tegen Kaapverdië (0-0). Na het duel tegen Saudi-Arabië is Uruguay de laatste tegenstander in de groepsfase.

Artist had requested only his partner and great-nephew attend, with memorial services planned in places he lived

Only two people attended David Hockney’s funeral last week – in line with the British artist’s final wishes.

The two mourners at the private ceremony were Hockney’s 61-year-old partner, Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima, and his 33-year-old great-nephew, Richard Hockney, a photographer who worked as the artist’s assistant and frequently modelled for him. Both are trustees of the David Hockney Foundation, established by the artist in 2008.
