Minder zout eten? Deze kruiden zijn goede vervangers

Brood, kaas, sauzen, overal zit zout in.

"The Big Rig Roma takes visitors for a journey through the twists and drama of the early days of the gas and oil industries in Australia.

Discover the history of natural resource exploration in the Roma region as our pioneering story comes alive through interactive exhibits, machinery and equipment displays, and the insights of our knowledgeable local ‘Roma Rigger’ guides. Don’t miss the chance to climb the 40-metre Big Rig Tower (via stairs or lift) and experience a day in the life of a rigger"!

Great sunset shots from the top of the platform!

The first natural gas and oil in Australia was discovered in Roma as outlined in this rare piece from the internet -

"When Roma Oil Corporation drilled their first well on Hospital Hill in 1927, they struck oil. The liquid was condensate, a crude oil, and as such could be used in motor vehicles straight from the well. A car was driven from Roma to Sydney using this fuel but the well ceased to produce in 1931. Natural gas continued to be found around Roma but no commercial quantities of oil.

When Roma’s conventional gas was finally proved to be a significant resource, a 440 kilometre gas pipeline was constructed to Brisbane in 1969. The gas was utilised domestically and supplied the hydrogen to make ammonia to produce fertiliser.

Legislation, introduced by the Queensland parliament, ensured that oil and gas exploration companies at Roma compensated landholders for any damage to improvements on properties. As oil and natural gas were found on arid western properties of thousands of acres, production did not interfere to a great extent with the running of cattle or sheep. If the drillers failed to find gas, they often found water and the farmer had a free bore. A good relationship had developed between farmers and the conventional gas industry in southwest Queensland so when coal seam gas extraction started, the farmers were not concerned.

"By international standards Queensland has no significant oil reserves. The first commercial production of oil in Australia began at Moonie in 1962. Further oil deposits were discovered in South West Queensland in the 1980s. Australia's largest onshore oil field is the Jackson oil field. An oil pipeline runs from Jackson to Brisbane. In 2003, the pipeline burst open at Lytton causing Queensland's largest-ever oil spill. Queensland has most of Australia's 30 billion barrels of known oil shale resources."

At the Sculpture Out Back exhibition in Roma, what a wonderful work this is. I wish I could show you more close ups inside these wonderful old cars, made out of bits and pieces. They are really humorous. A classic title and Australian scene, this sculpture would work anywhere and hopefully ends up where it can be rightfully enjoyed by many. This type of work would be a stand out in exhibition at the 2030 Olympics. It sold for $35000 and I can confidently say it was worth every cent. The next shot is a close up of one of the ladies at the front.

Words taken from the work's description -

The sculpture is by Slim Humphries and Grace Gray. It is a tribute to everyday life in the Maranoa (directly, the area around Roma and Mitchell on the Maranoa River in south western Queensland. The federal electorate of Maranoa extends west of Toowoomba south to the NSW border, west to the South Australian border and right up into central western Queensland. In fact, it is the largest in land area in the state and three times the size of the state of Victoria).

The work features a classic 1950's tow truck driver hauling out a 1924 Oldsmobile, with some help! It is a celebration of Aussie bush character, it honours the Outback by making people smile.

'Dragonfly' Mission to Saturn's Moon Titan: Behind Schedule, Overbudget, Says NASA Inspector General

After its six-year journey to Saturn's moon Titan, Dragonfly's rotorcraft lander "will fly like a large drone," explains its web page, spending three years sampling multiple landing sites to characterize Titan's habitability and look for "precursors of the origin of life."

"However, the project has undergone multiple replans impacting cost and schedule, resulting in a life-cycle cost increase of nearly $1 billion and over 2 years of delays," according to an announcement from NASA's Inspector General.
From the Inspector General's report:

The cost increase and schedule delay were largely the result of NASA directing [Johns Hopkins University] Applied Physics Laboratory to conduct four replans between June 2019 and July 2023 early in Dragonfly's development. Justifications for these replans included the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain issues, changes to accommodate a heavy-lift launch vehicle, projected funding challenges, and inflation."
But its higher-than-expected life-cycle cost over $3 billion "will continue to absorb an increasing proportion of the Planetary Science Division's total budget," meaning Dragonfly's increased cost (and "additional budget constraints") have "contributed to a gap of at least 12 years in New Frontiers [planetary science] mission launches, and will jeopardize future priorities outlined in the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's (National Academies) decadal surveys."

Yet a NASA press release notes the mission "has cleared several key design, development and testing milestones and remains on track toward launch in July 2028." Its software-defined radio has been completed, and the part of the spectrometer which analyzes Titan's chemical components for "potentially biologically relevant" compounds (as well as structural and thermal testing of the lander's insulation).
"The mission is scheduled to launch in July 2028 on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch vehicle from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida."
