Police are investigating an incident where a man was run over by a van after a group of people were taking down union flags put up by Raise the Colours in Birmingham.

A man, in his 30s, suffered a broken leg that required surgery. He remains in hospital after the incident on Thursday evening in Stirchley, police said.

WASHINGTON (ANP/RTR) - Israël en Libanon hebben hun staakt-het-vuren met 45 dagen verlengd, meldt het Amerikaanse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Delegaties uit beide landen onderhandelden donderdag en vrijdag in Washington, dat optrad als bemiddelaar.

Libanon en Israël sloten op 16 april een bestand. Dat zou aanvankelijk tien dagen duren, maar werd vlak voor de deadline verlengd met drie weken. Nu die er ook bijna op zaten, moest er opnieuw worden onderhandeld.

De Amerikanen spraken eerder al van "productieve en positieve" gesprekken. Het Amerikaanse ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken meldt dat er op 2 en 3 juni verder zal worden gesproken. Eerder komen al wel een keer militaire delegaties uit beide landen bij elkaar.

Ondanks het staakt-het-vuren voert Israël nog steeds regelmatig aanvallen uit op het zuiden van Libanon. Israël zegt dat te doen als reactie op schendingen van het staakt-het-vuren door Hezbollah. Die beweging zit niet aan de onderhandelingstafel en heeft het bestand verworpen.

Most of the time, people enter anyway.
Because the smell coming from the door, the warm lights and the sound of dishes are already convincing enough.
