DEN HAAG (ANP) - De gevolgde procedure rond de met het hantavirus besmette patiënt in het Radboudumc is "niet goed geweest", zegt gezondheidsminister Sophie Hermans (VVD) tijdens het wekelijkse vragenuur. Twaalf medewerkers van het Nijmeegse ziekenhuis moeten hierdoor uit voorzorg voor zes weken in quarantaine.
Bij het afnemen van bloed en het afvoeren van urine is een "strenge procedure gevolgd, maar niet de allerstrengste die nu gevolgd had moeten worden", aldus de bewindsvrouw die benadrukt dat het ziekenhuis hiervan gaat leren voor de toekomst.
Hermans zei, net als het ziekenhuis eerder al deed, dat de kans klein is dat de medewerkers besmet zijn. "Maar omdat we weten dat we met een serieus virus te maken hebben, heeft het Radboudumc gezegd: we nemen hier het zekere voor het onzekere."

The Union Hotel on Waymouth Street, established in 1845 as the Union Inn, is a historic Adelaide pub. Rebuilt in 1880, it is a Local Heritage-listed site known for its Victorian-era architecture and, notably, as a former home of a caged "black tiger" in its early days. It continues to operate as a popular city gastropub today.
Key Historical Details
Establishment & Original Owner: Established in 1845, the original inn was associated with John Michael Herring, who died in the hotel following an accident.
The "Tiger" Era:
In the late 1800s, the pub was famous for housing a "black tiger" brought by a Mr. Creech. It was kept in a cage at the rear, and visitors paid sixpence to see it.
Architecture:
The current two-story brick and sandstone structure was designed by architect James Cumming and built around 1880, replacing the original, according to historical documentation.
Renovations:
The building underwent multiple, extensive renovations, including work in 1914 by builders Hackett & Harris and in 1925 by J. Oliver. These renovations removed the original balcony and decorative urns from the roofline.
Heritage Status:
The hotel has been a continuous part of Adelaide's culture for over 160 years, featuring in stories of the city's past, including tales of it being haunted by its original owner.

My next image takes us back to the Mizushima Industrial Complex.
I’m not entirely sure why I keep finding myself drawn to heavy industry whenever I’m in Japan, especially considering we have similar industrial sites here in Europe. Perhaps it’s because Japan seems to offer more vantage points from which these places can truly be observed and appreciated.
For most people, it might seem strange to stand and admire an industrial complex, but for me there’s something deeply captivating about it. The towering turbines, smoking chimneys, and the occasional burst of flame cutting through the darkness. The relative stillness around you, while somewhere in the distance the whole structure hums with life — scraping steel, squealing bearings, hissing pipes, metallic echoes rolling through the air.
It’s an immense machine that never truly sleeps.
There’s also something undeniably futuristic about it, as if you’ve stepped onto another planet. In moments like these, I’m a little kid again, completely lost in imagination.

Geruststellende meningen voor al die Odido-klanten, of ex-Odido-klanten waarvan de gegevens al lang verwijderd hadden moeten zijn, van wie nu allerlei gegevens op straat liggen (opzoeken wat voor abo Gert-Jan Segers heeft, red.). Odido heeft namelijk niks verkeerd gedaan. Mogelijk heeft het bedrijf wel fouten gemaakt. Maar Odido heeft niks verkeerd gedaan. Wel fouten gemaakt, tenminste, mogelijke fouten. Maar niks verkeerd gedaan hoor. Ik reed niet te hard meneer agent, maar mogelijk heb ik wel de maximaal toegestane snelheid overtreden. Ik heb Barbertje niet vermoord edelachtbare, maar mogelijk heb ik haar wel in kleine stukjes gesneden, en ingezouten. Ik ben niet naar de hoeren geweest liefje, maar mogelijk heb ik wel betaald voor seks. Megahack. Niks verkeerd. Wel fouten. Nou ja. Mogelijk fouten. Mooi dit.
