Liverpool fans directed yellow cards against owners
Liverpool supporters have achieved a significant victory in their protests against ticket costs at Anfield after the club scrapped plans to increase prices for the next three seasons.
Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), went against the wishes of their Supporters Board in March by announcing general admission tickets would rise by the rate of inflation, capped to 3%, in each of the next three seasons. Following widespread protests organised by several Liverpool supporters groups, the club have now confirmed those tickets will rise by 3% next season but will be frozen in 2027-28. Further discussions with the Supporters Board will be held over ticket prices for future seasons. The Premier League champions made record revenues of £703m in the year ending 31 May 2025 and ticket prices rises were costed to be worth an extra £1.2m. The club claimed the increases were necessary due to rising operational costs at Anfield.

PWNED Welcome back to PWNED, the weekly column where we turn a white hot spotlight onto the cracks and crevices in company security and write about those who have let their guard down, often in the name of convenience, incompetence, or just plain laziness. Today’s tale of woe concerns the need to secure a network and the dangers of an insecure password. Our story comes courtesy of Roger Grimes, CISO advisor at security firm KnowBe4. He recounts a time when he had to get into a client’s network but didn’t have the credentials. Grimes was installing accounting software for a client and, as a result, needed to take the network down for a day. To make sure that he didn’t disturb any work, he decided to log into the system on a Saturday. Unfortunately, he was missing the admin password he needed to uninstall old software and add the new app. Since it was the weekend, no one was answering their work phones to give him the information he needed, and there was a good chance he would have to delay the upgrade until the following weekend. Grimes could have given up right there, but he had an idea. Why not try to figure out what the password was? The situation reminded him of a movie. “You know, the scene where the hacker is sitting at the terminal trying to log on, but the victim refuses to give up credentials. So the hacker starts typing random passwords out of thin air,” he said. “And wouldn’t you know it? They correctly guess the password at the last possible moment.” After trying numerous passwords, the advisor thought about a famous movie he had just watched: Citizen Kane. He decided to try “rosebud,” and voilà. (This vulture can identify with the Orson Welles focus, having just watched The Third Man this week.) It’s a good thing that it was Grimes, a legit contractor, guessing passwords instead of some miscreant. Picking a password from a movie plotline is a bad idea and, in this case, made even worse by the lack of numbers, capital letters, or symbols in the password. If you’re picking out a password, you might be better off generating a strong password that’s a string of random numbers and letters and then having it remembered by a password manager. Then, for the password manager itself, consider a passphrase that contains capital letters, symbols, and numbers such as “Shoe-Please6-Wrapped-Carbon-Wear” so you can try to remember it. You might also use a passphrase for your admin password – you can generate a random one using Keeper’s Passphrase Generator. Have a story about someone leaving a gaping hole in their network? A small study found that a single 25mg dose of psilocybin produced measurable brain changes that were still visible a month later, along with reported improvements in psychological insight, wellbeing, and mental flexibility. The Guardian reports: Evidence for the changes came from specialized scans that measured the diffusion of water along nerve bundles in the brain. They suggested that some nerve tracts had become denser and more robust after the drug was taken. While the findings are preliminary, the scientists said the opposite was seen in ageing and dementia. "It's remarkable to see potential anatomical brain changes one month after a single dose of any drug," said Prof Robin Carhart-Harris, a neurologist at the University of California, San Francisco, and senior author on the study. "We don't yet know what these changes mean, but we do note that overall, people showed positive psychological changes in this study, including improved wellbeing and mental flexibility."

AMSTERDAM (ANP) - Jill Helena, een van de slachtoffers in de zedenzaak tegen Ali B, wil de uitspraak van het gerechtshof in rust verwerken. Advocaat Sébas Diekstra, die Helena in de zaak bijstaat, laat weten dat de zangeres ervoor heeft gekozen geen interviews of andere mediaoptredens te geven.
"Voor mij is pijnlijk duidelijk geworden wat zo'n langdurig proces met iemand als mens doet. De stress, de onzekerheid en de voortdurende spanning hebben veel invloed gehad op mijn leven, zowel privé als professioneel", laat ze in een verklaring weten. "Tegelijkertijd ben ik dankbaar dat er opnieuw erkenning is geweest voor mijn verhaal en ervaring. Dat betekent veel voor mij."
Volgens de zangeres hebben de afgelopen jaren laten zien dat "spreken soms ook een prijs heeft". "Ik hoop dat er, los van alle meningen en discussies, ook oog blijft voor de menselijke kant van dit soort processen. Voor nu kies ik ervoor om dit moment in rust te verwerken."
Het gerechtshof Amsterdam veroordeelde Ali B donderdag tot een celstraf van drie jaar. Het hof achtte de verkrachting van een vrouw tijdens een schrijverskamp in Heiloo in 2018 bewezen, net als de verkrachting van zangeres Ellen ten Damme in Marokko. Het hof sprak Ali B vrij van de aanranding van Helena.
GENÈVE (ANP) - Bij vijf personen is het hantavirus vastgesteld na een uitbraak op het cruiseschip Hondius, meldt de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie (WHO) aan het ANP. Er zijn volgens de organisatie nog drie vermoedelijke gevallen. De mogelijke besmetting van een stewardess van KLM is niet in deze cijfers meegenomen.
De WHO meldde woensdag ook acht gevallen, maar toen waren er nog maar drie met laboratoriumonderzoek bevestigd. Een woordvoerder kon donderdag nog geen verdere details geven over de bevestigde besmettingen. Hij meldt dat de WHO later op de dag met een nieuwe schriftelijke update komt en dat WHO-topman Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus woensdag om 15.00 uur Nederlandse tijd een persconferentie houdt.
De acht personen waren aan boord van de Hondius. Drie van hen zijn overleden. Dat zijn een Nederlands echtpaar en een Duitse burger. In zowel Zuid-Afrika als Zwitserland is één persoon opgenomen in het ziekenhuis. De overige drie personen werden woensdag van het schip geëvacueerd en vervolgens naar Nederland gevlogen.
