Continue reading...LONDEN (ANP) - Shell heeft in het eerste kwartaal flink meer winst behaald, geholpen door de sterk gestegen olieprijzen vanwege de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten. De winst kwam uit op 6,9 miljard dollar, tegen bijna 3,3 miljard dollar in het vierde kwartaal. Shell had eerder al gezegd dat de resultaten uit de oliehandel aanzienlijk hoger zouden uitvallen door de onrust op de energiemarkt.
De totale omzet steeg naar ruim 70 miljard dollar, van 66,7 miljard dollar in het voorgaande kwartaal. Shell-topman Wael Sawan spreekt in een toelichting van sterke resultaten in een kwartaal dat werd gekenmerkt door een "ongekende verstoring" van de wereldwijde energiemarkten. Shell kondigde een nieuw aandeleninkoopprogramma aan van 3 miljard dollar en een verhoging van het dividend.
Door de oorlog en de blokkade van de Straat van Hormuz stegen de olieprijzen met wel 50 procent. Inmiddels zijn de prijzen wel weer wat ingezakt door hoop op een einde aan het conflict.
LOCHEM (ANP) - Veevoerbedrijf ForFarmers heeft een "sterk" eerste kwartaal achter de rug, ondanks de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten. Hoewel de huidige geopolitieke ontwikkelingen zorgen voor onzekerheid en hogere prijzen van grondstoffen en energie, kan het bedrijf uit Lochem naar eigen zeggen het veevoer "tegen scherpe prijzen" blijven aanbieden aan zijn klanten.
ForFarmers zag de omzet in het eerste kwartaal stijgen met 4,5 procent tot bijna 788 miljoen euro, dankzij overnames. Op eigen kracht, dus zonder overnames, nam de omzet wel met 4,7 procent af. Het volume, oftewel de hoeveelheid voer, steeg met ruim 9 procent door overnames. Zonder overnames daalde het volume licht met een half procent, ondanks de impact van de stoppersregelingen en dierziekten.
De brutowinst steeg met ruim 17 procent naar bijna 162 miljoen euro. Topman Pieter Wolleswinkel sprak van een "wederom sterk" eerste kwartaal, waarin het bedrijf zijn marktposities verder wist te versterken en een solide groei van de winstgevendheid heeft gerealiseerd.
DEN HAAG (ANP) - Het tweede medische evacuatievliegtuig met een zieke Brit aan boord van het cruiseschip Hondius is onderweg naar Nederland. Het toestel strandde woensdag op de Canarische Eilanden met technische problemen, aldus Spaanse media.
Volgens de Spaanse publieke omroep RTVE zal het vliegtuig rond 09.00 uur in Nederland landen. Aan boord van het toestel is een 56-jarig bemanningslid uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Hij heeft symptomen van het hantavirus.
Het eerste evacuatievliegtuig landde woensdagavond op Schiphol met een Nederlands bemanningslid (41) en een Duitse (65) aan boord. De Duitse was nauw verwant aan een passagier van de Hondius die eerder is overleden.
Twee epidemiologen
De Hondius is volgens de cruisemaatschappij woensdag om 19.15 uur vertrokken voor de kust van Kaapverdië en onderweg naar Tenerife. Het schip doet er ongeveer drie dagen over. Op het Spaanse eiland gaan de overige mensen van boord, onder wie tien Nederlanders.
Op het schip zijn nu twee epidemiologen die onderzoek doen naar de stand van zaken van de besmettingen. Ook zijn twee medisch specialisten van het UMC uit Amsterdam en het Centraal Militair Hospitaal/UMCU gestuurd om volgens Buitenlandse Zaken "op het schip ondersteuning (te) bieden om optimale medische zorg te verlenen tijdens de overtocht".
