Colombia hosted nearly 60 countries at pivotal time on world stage for fight to transition to a clean energy future

Looking out to sea from the grey sandy beaches of Santa Marta, on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, it is never hard to spot evidence of the country’s thriving fossil fuel export trade. Oil tankers ride at anchor on the horizon, and sometimes, locals say, lumps of coal wash up on the shore, blown off the collier ships that carry cargos from the nearby mines.

It was here, on Wednesday evening, that the Colombian government took a bold step to shift its economy – and that of the rest of the world – away from dependence on coal, gas and oil and into a new era of clean energy. With the first ever conference on “transitioning away from fossil fuels”, the host joined nearly 60 countries determined to loosen of the grip of petrostates on the world’s future.

Al een tijdje ben ik een zogenaamde pensionomade, oftewel een oudere man zonder vaste woon- of verblijfplaats. Als het aan mij ligt blijft dat nog even zo.

KOOTWIJK (ANP) - Op meerdere plekken zijn vrijdagmiddag natuurbranden uitgebroken. Zo woedden er onder meer bij de Gelderse plaatsen Kootwijk en Harderwijk twee bosbranden.

In Kootwijk gebeurde dat langs de Nieuw Milligenseweg. Bij de brand kwam veel rook vrij. Een woordvoerder vertelde dat er vijf blusvoertuigen zijn ingezet en dat het vuur snel onder controle was. Vanwege de brand werd de A1 korte tijd gesloten.

In Harderwijk brak bij de Plaggeweg een bosbrand uit. De brandweer rukte met verschillende voertuigen uit. Ook hier werd al snel het sein brand meester gegeven. De brandweer is, net zoals in Kootwijk, vooral bezig met nablussen.

In een bos bij Uden in Brabant was vrijdagmiddag ook kort een brand. Die was snel geblust, laat een woordvoerster van de veiligheidsregio weten.

MIAMI (ANP) - Het Hard Rock Stadium zal na de Grote Prijs van Miami in de Formule 1 op tijd klaar zijn voor de start van het WK voetbal in juni. Dat zei Todd Boyan, vicepresident stadionbeheer van de Miami Dolphins. Het stadion van de American Football-spelers van de Dolphins staat zes weken voor de eerste wedstrijd van de eindronde nog compleet in het teken van de Formule 1-race, die zondag met Max Verstappen in zijn Red Bull op het tijdelijke stratencircuit rondom het stadion plaatsvindt.

Wie nu over het speelveld uitkijkt, kan zich amper voorstellen dat medio juni Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinícius Júnior en de in Rotterdam geboren spelers van Kaapverdië hun wedstrijden in hetzelfde stadion spelen. Vanuit het hooggelegen mediacentrum, het makkelijkste te bereiken met een golfkarretje, ziet men slechts de paddock met de hospitalitytenten van de renstallen. Gasten, journalisten en Formule 1-personeel lopen af en aan.

Rondom het stadion is de situatie niet anders. Alles oogt, ruikt en klinkt als motorsport. Op de loopbrug over het circuit is het geluid van de raceauto's van de verschillende raceklassen oorverdovend. De geur van uitlaatgassen en banden is doordringend.

Formule 1

Ondanks het feit dat het Hard Rock Stadium nog in de ban is van de Formule 1, lijkt Boyan zich geen zorgen te maken. Na de grand prix zullen de voorbereidingen op het WK onmiddellijk beginnen. "We hebben een periode van een paar weken om de infrastructuur die we gebruiken voor de paddock van het veld te verwijderen en om daarna half mei het voetbalveld aan te leggen", zei Boyan tegen de officiële website van de Formule 1.

"Ik denk dat we er doorgaans zo'n vier weken over doen om de situatie na de grand prix terug te brengen naar normaal", vervolgde Boyan. "We versnellen momenteel een aantal werkzaamheden, zodat we ruimte kunnen maken voor de voorzieningen die de FIFA wil aanbrengen."

Toegang

"De FIFA beseft dat ze in andere stadions over meer tijd beschikken, aangezien ze daar eerder toegang krijgen dan hier mogelijk is. Zodoende hebben ze zich enigszins moeten aanpassen. Na de aanleg van het veld half mei hebben ze een volle maand voor het eerste duel op 15 juni", aldus Boyan.

Er staan zeven WK-wedstrijden op het programma in Miami, waaronder de groepsduels Portugal - Colombia, Brazilië - Schotland en Uruguay - Kaapverdië en de strijd om het brons.

Het WK voetbal in de Verenigde Staten, Canada en Mexico begint op 11 juni en eindigt op 19 juli met de finale in New York.

The last Disney one that isn't dead to me already. Admittedly the OLC isn't really holding on by the skin of their teeth. TDR has proven time and time again that it cares for classics and know it can still sell better than a cheap rehash (the American parks can learn a thing or two from this model). Considering I am going back here this year (not originally intended) it's not worth exactly kicking rocks over why I hate Disney again and might as well make light of the situation.
This was the first shot I got that day. After getting off the metro at Uraysu station and the sun slowly starting to peak over the Tokyo Bay, a lot of the suburbia looked scaled down from city central and it was quite interesting to see. This mural was sitting in the monerail station and gave a good premonition of what was to come. I didn't spend much time lining up this shot cause I had a rope drop line to get to so I took a singular bracket without thinking much about it and moved on.
In editing I toned down the ambient lighting in all spots except the mural itself. Again, just so we're absolutely clear, this is NOT Disney World (and hopefully I'll never go there again, not like I can afford it anyway), this is the cheaper and superior Tokyo Disney Resort.
I hate Disney.
