Google will require identity verification for all Android app developers, including those distributing apps outside the Play Store, starting September 2026 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand before expanding globally through 2027. Developers must register through a new Android Developer Console beginning March 2026. The requirement applies to certified Android devices running Google Mobile Services. Google cited malware prevention as the primary motivation, noting sideloaded apps contain 50 times more malware than Play Store apps.

Hobbyist and student developers will receive separate account types. Developer information submitted to Google will not be displayed to users.

Living through extreme heat waves can accelerate your rate of aging, according to research published Monday. From a report: Scientists analyzed 15 years' worth of health data from nearly 25,000 adults in Taiwan and found that two years of exposure to heat waves could speed up a person's so-called biological aging by eight to 12 extra days. It may not sound like a lot, but this number builds over time, said Cui Guo, an assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong who led the study, which was published Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change.

"This small number actually matters," she said. "This was a study of a two-year exposure, but we know heat waves have actually been occurring for decades." The research comes as human-induced climate change is making heat waves more intense and long-lasting. The West Coast of the United States is suffering from sweltering temperatures while Iran is experiencing searing heat. Record-breaking temperatures punished Europe, Japan and Korea earlier this month. France recently experienced its second heat wave of the summer, sparking a national debate over air-conditioning.

WASHINGTON (ANP/AFP/BLOOMBERG) - Een Amerikaanse rechter heeft tijdelijk de uitzetting van een Salvadoraanse man naar Oeganda geblokkeerd. Kilmar Abrego Garcia werd eerder al ten onrechte gedeporteerd naar El Salvador, maar ook na zijn terugkeer naar de VS blijft hij op de lijst staan om het land te worden uitgezet.

Garcia is al maandenlang het middelpunt van een rel over het deportatiebeleid van president Donald Trump. Afgelopen week werd Garcia nog vrijgelaten uit een gevangenis in Tennessee, maar maandag is hij weer gearresteerd. Hij moest zich melden bij een immigratiekantoor in Baltimore en is daar direct opgepakt. Homeland Security meldde dat het proces om hem naar Oeganda uit te zetten in gang is gezet.

Maar de rechter heeft besloten om die deportatie in elk geval tijdelijk tegen te houden. Garcia moet volgens haar eerst de kans krijgen om te beargumenteren dat hij niet veilig zal zijn in dat land.

NEW YORK (ANP) - Beleggers op Wall Street deden maandag een stap terug na de beursrally van vrijdag. De stemming werd gedrukt door zorgen onder sommige aandelenhandelaren over het tempo van renteverlagingen door de Federal Reserve dit jaar. Vrijdag gingen de beurzen hard omhoog nadat Fed-voorzitter Jerome Powell aangaf dat een renteverlaging in september waarschijnlijk is.

De Dow-Jonesindex eindigde de eerste handelsdag van de week met een verlies van 0,8 procent op 45.282,47 punten en de S&P 500-index zakte 0,4 procent tot 6439,32 punten. Techgraadmeter Nasdaq verloor 0,2 procent op 21.449,29 punten. Vrijdag steeg de Dow 1,9 procent en sloot de index van de dertig grootste Amerikaanse beursbedrijven voor het eerst dit jaar op een nieuw recordniveau. De S&P 500 en de Nasdaq wonnen 1,5 en 1,9 procent.

Keurig Dr Pepper was een opvallende daler met een verlies van 11,5 procent. Het Amerikaanse frisdrankenconcern, bekend van 7UP, Schweppes en Dr Pepper, wil het moederbedrijf van Douwe Egberts en Pickwick overnemen. Het bedrijf heeft 15,7 miljard euro over voor het in Amsterdam genoteerde JDE Peet's.
