Oof. Brace for a massive downer, because what you’re about to read features what may be the most depressing person on planet Earth: The hamburger this guy DoorDashed to his apartment has seen more of his city in one hour than he has in months. 

God, what a bummer it is to know that a hamburger has explored more of your own city than you have. 

If you’re visiting Chicago soon and looking for recommendations, you’re better off asking the Five Guys burger that Austin Breslin, 34, had delivered today than Austin himself, because that burger has spent more time traversing various Chicago neighborhoods than Austin has all year. While the burger was on its 40-minute bike journey from the restaurant’s West Loop location to Austin’s apartment in Uptown—passing through some of Chicago’s most bustling communities on an incredibly beautiful, sunny day—Austin was inside, sitting on his couch, mindlessly scrolling social media, which is what he’s mostly been doing since the burger’s beef was still part of a living, breathing cow. 

It’s genuinely fair to say that Austin’s burger had a more enjoyable Chicago summer than he did. Austin has barely set foot outside his own neighborhood since spring, and here’s this hamburger, passing through multiple street festivals and block parties on its way to be consumed by one of the saddest men alive. It’s honestly so, so sad to see someone live less actively than a hamburger in one of America’s biggest cities. In less than one hour, a burger racked up more life experience out in the world than Austin probably ever will.

Someone needs to check in on this man. This situation is as bleak as it gets. 

It seems like the only way Austin will ever leave the four block radius he’s confined his life to is if this burger gives him food poisoning so bad he gets taken to a hospital across the city. For his sake, let’s hope that happens, because to lead a less exciting existence than a hamburger, even for just 40 minutes, is no way to live. Ugh. Just so depressing.

I owe everything I have to football. Playing 16 seasons in the NFL was one of the greatest honors of my life, and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. But the rewards of professional football come with tremendous risks. To this day, I still feel the effects of playing through fractures, neck injuries, a separated shoulder, and more. What happens on the field impacts your physical and mental health forever, and these risks are present at every level of the sport, not just the NFL. That’s why I would never, ever let my wife play high school football. 

If my wife got even one concussion playing football on our local high school’s team, I would never forgive myself. It’s my job as her husband to put her safety first. 

My wife Abby watched me ascend to the highest highs a player can reach in the NFL. She saw me win two Super Bowls against Tom Brady, feature in four Pro Bowls, and set league records behind center. Wouldn’t I want the love of my life to experience the same gridiron glories that her husband did? No. Knowing that every year you play, your odds of a CTE diagnosis increase by 15%, it would be irresponsible to let a 41-year-old woman like Abby pad up for even one season of high school football. 

I cannot in good conscience enlist the mother of my children in a sport where a 16-year-old linebacker could obliterate her ACL with an unfortunately timed spear tackle. Of course, there’s a part of me that would love to pass on my knowledge of the game to her. Every man dreams of seeing his wife make varsity, working on the route tree with her in the backyard after putting the kids to bed, hearing the roar from the bleachers as she scores the game-winning sack on a quarterback who’s only halfway through puberty. But what most men don’t consider is the possibility of seeing their wife laying facedown on a high school football field after a helmet-to-helmet collision with a 280-pound sophomore nicknamed “Juicy,” and getting hit themselves with a lifetime of regret.

Outside of the health risks, football demands a level of sacrifice that’s hard to ask of a mother of four. Long days of practice in grueling heat or blistering cold, travel games on weekends, spending all your remaining free time training. The odds of a 41-year-old housewife going on to play collegiate football, let alone making the NFL, are astronomically low—whereas the odds of a life-changing injury grow higher with every snap she plays. That’s a tradeoff I don’t want my wife making when she could feel equally fulfilled by activities like raising our kids, or starting a book club, or getting involved with the PTA, like other moms her age. My wife doesn’t need to become a football star for me to love her.

I promise you, the downsides of letting your wife play youth football are not worth the rewards. 

I come from a family where football was our whole lives. It meant everything to us. But my wife? She’ll enjoy the thrills of the game from the sidelines. She shouldn’t have to take on the risks of high school football in order for us to bond over it. So as long as I have any say in the matter, the only showers my wife will be hitting are with me.

ELLESBOROUGH (ANP) - De Amerikaanse president Donald Trump en de Britse premier Keir Starmer hebben hun technologiepact officieel ondertekend. De Verenigde Staten en het Verenigd Koninkrijk spreken daarin af samen te werken aan onderzoek naar kunstmatige intelligentie, quantumcomputers en kernenergie.

Trump en Starmer zetten hun handtekening tijdens een bezoek van de Amerikaanse president aan het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Tijdens het staatsbezoek kondigden veel grote Amerikaanse techbedrijven investeringen van miljarden dollars aan in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Onder andere AI-chipbedrijf Nvidia en softwareconcern Microsoft beloofden geld te steken in de Britse economie.

In de door Trump en Starmer ondertekende intentieverklaring beloven de landen een werkgroep op te zetten op ministerieel niveau. Die groep moet dienen als "strategisch forum" dat samenwerkingen begeleidt, prioriteiten stelt en gezamenlijke projecten overziet. Over een jaar overleggen de landen over een eventuele volgende fase.

Borg schreef de autobiografie samen met zijn vrouw Patricia. Daarin vertelde de oud-tennisser dat hij vorig jaar een operatie onderging en dat de artsen de kanker een jaar eerder hadden ontdekt. "Ik sprak met de dokter en hij zei dat het echt heel erg slecht is", zei Borg tegen de BBC. "Hij zei dat ik slapende kankercellen heb en dat het in de toekomst een zware strijd zal worden. Ik laat me elke zes maanden onderzoeken. Twee weken geleden heb ik mijn laatste test gehad. Het is iets waar ik mee moet leren leven."

Tijdens zijn hoogtijdagen speelde Borg vaak tegen de Amerikaan John McEnroe. Hun strijd in de finale van Wimbledon in 1980 wordt beschouwd als een van de beste tenniswedstrijden ooit. Borg won de epische vijfsetter.
