WASHINGTON (ANP) - Het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie heeft via zijn antitrustafdeling akkoord gegeven voor de geplande miljardenovername van Warner Bros. Discovery door Paramount Skydance. Dat meldt Politico op basis van ingewijden. De goedkeuring maakt volgens de nieuwssite de weg vrij voor de twee grote Amerikaanse entertainmentconcerns om samen te gaan.
De deal tussen Paramount en Warner Bros., die in februari werd aangekondigd, is goed voor 110 miljard dollar. Door de overname ontstaat een fusiebedrijf dat duizenden bekende films en series in huis heeft, naast veel Amerikaanse televisiezenders.
Volgens Politico hebben overheidsfunctionarissen na uitgebreid onderzoek geconcludeerd dat de transactie geen bedreiging vormt voor de concurrentie en besloten ze deze niet aan te vechten. Het besluit zou vrijdag al kunnen worden aangekondigd.
