DEN HAAG (ANP) - Nieuwbouwkoopwoningen zijn in het tweede kwartaal gemiddeld 7,8 procent duurder geworden ten opzichte van dezelfde periode een jaar eerder. Dat komt naar voren uit nieuwe cijfers van het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek en het Kadaster. De prijsstijgingen zijn daarmee opnieuw afgezwakt.

Een nieuwbouwwoning kostte van april tot en met juni gemiddeld ruim 495.000 euro. In de eerste drie maanden van dit jaar kostte een nieuwbouwwoning nog 9,4 procent meer, eind 2024 was een dergelijke woning bijna 5,6 procent duurder.

De prijzen van bestaande koopwoningen zijn volgens het CBS van april tot en met juni sterker gestegen. In het tweede kwartaal was de gemiddelde verkoopwaarde van deze woningen bijna 473.000 euro. Dat was 9,7 procent meer dan een jaar eerder. In het eerste kwartaal van 2025 werden bestaande koopwoningen nog bijna 11 procent duurder op jaarbasis.

Tweede kwartaal steeds meer huizen verkocht

Ondanks de prijsstijgingen werden in het tweede kwartaal wel meer huizen verkocht. In totaal ging dat om ruim 63.000, 17,5 procent meer dan vorig jaar. Die stijging komt vooral door de verkoop van bestaande koopwoningen, waarvan ruim 57.000 werden verkocht. Dat is bijna een vijfde meer dan een jaar eerder. Met bijna 6300 bleef het aantal verkochte nieuwbouwwoningen vrijwel gelijk.

De gemiddelde prijsstijging van nieuwbouw en bestaande bouw samen kwam in Nederland uit op 9,5 procent in het tweede kwartaal. Dat is boven het Europese gemiddelde van 5,4 procent.

In zeven landen binnen de Europese Unie stegen de prijzen nog harder dan in Nederland, stelt het CBS. De grootste stijging in het tweede kwartaal werd waargenomen in Portugal, waar woningen 17,2 procent duurder werden. Finland was het enige land waar huizen juist goedkoper werden, met 1,3 procent.

STADSKANAAL (ANP) - Op een pluimveebedrijf in het Drentse Gasselternijveenschemond, vlak bij Stadskanaal, is vogelgriep vastgesteld. De 71.000 dieren op het terrein worden geruimd, meldt de Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA) dinsdag. Het is de eerste besmetting in Nederland sinds maart van dit jaar.

Het bedrijf waar de vogelgriep is vastgesteld, houdt vleeskuikenouderdieren, kippen die eieren leggen waaruit de vleeskuikens komen. In een gebied van tien kilometer rond het bedrijf geldt per direct een vervoersverbod voor 31 andere commerciële pluimveebedrijven.

Ook geldt in dat gebied een ophok- en afschermplicht voor pluimvee en andere vogelsoorten. Deze maatregelen zijn nodig om verspreiding naar andere delen van het land te voorkomen.

Er geldt momenteel geen landelijke ophok- en afschermplicht in Nederland en daar is volgens de NVWA ook geen directe aanleiding voor. Experts van de autoriteit komen op korte termijn bij elkaar om het risico op verspreiding van de vogelgriep opnieuw te beoordelen.

Much of the conversation about video and content over the last few weeks has been about the silencing of Jimmy Kimmels's show and the fact that we're seeing a shockingly rapid move towards the type of censorious media control typical of most authoritarian regimes.

But there's a broader trend that poses a looming threat to online video creators that I think is going a bit under the radar, so I took a minute to pull together a quick short-form video on the topic:

The key things that have shifted can be summarized with three points:

1. TikTok Takeover: The cronyism exploited to hand TikTok to Larry Ellison for a fraction of its worth, setting up the danger of its platform amplifying content controlled by the administration, and silencing dissenting voices.
2. Vimeo Vulnerability: The consolidation of a number of the major streaming video infrastructure providers (including Vimeo, one of the most important) under Bending Spoons, the notorious conglomerate which not only tends to enshittify its products, but which will now also present a unified target for the same censors who went after voices like Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert.
3. Creator Capture: The lack of available and accessible open alternatives to major distribution platforms like YouTube and TikTok — there's no "BlueSky for video" or "Mastodon for video", meaning there isn't the same opportunity for video creators to make themselves resilient to a platform takeover.

All of this is trying to make clear to video creators that they need to embrace the same radical control that podcasters have always had.

Separately, I'm also (obviously!) using this as a chance to start sharing a bit more of the videos I've been making lately. It's still very early, and I'm not quite sure what direction they're headed, so please do share any feedback you've got.

In general, I'm going to try to complement my writing here with some videos from time to time, just to make some of these concepts more accessible to different audiences. Vandaag overheerst de bewolking. Soms kan de zon even tevoorschijn komen en het blijft droog. De maximumtemperatuur ligt rond 17 à 18 graden. De wind waait matig uit zuidwestelijke richting. Vanavond en vannacht is er veel bewolking en plaatselijk kan wat motregen vallen, maar veel zal dat niet voorstellen. Het blijft aan de zachte kant met temperaturen van 12 à 13 graden. De zuidwestenwind is zwak tot matig.

California biotech entrepreneur and former magician Serhat Gumrukcu has been found guilty of orchestrating the 2018 murder of his business rival Gregory Davis, who had threatened to expose Gumrukcu's fraudulent dealings. He faces sentencing in November. SFGATE reports: Seven years ago, Turkish national Serhat Gumrukcu, 42, of Los Angeles, was negotiating a multimillion-dollar biotech merger built off his work on a supposed HIV cure. The deal was put in jeopardy by a former business partner named Gregory Davis, 49, who had threatened to bring legal action against Gumrukcu for fraudulent activities relating to a previous failed oil commodities deal, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a news release last week. Gumrukcu, a magician-turned-scientist who admitted to buying his medical degree from a Russian university, lived in a Hollywood mansion and partied with Oscar winners and movie producers, according to VTDigger. He stood to make millions from the merger of his biotech company Enochian BioSciences. [...]
In 2017, upon learning that Davis, a father of six from Danville, Vermont, could potentially spoil his fortune-making deal, Gumrukcu set in motion a hit on the former business partner. The murder-for-hire plot involved four men in total, prosecutors said. Gumrukcu had a close friend from Las Vegas, Berk Eratay, approach a third man, Aron Ethridge to find a hit man to kill Davis. The shooter, 37-year-old Montana man Jerry Banks, arrived at Davis' home on Jan. 6, 2018, in a vehicle fitted with flashing red and blue lights and posed as a deputy U.S. marshal. After abducting Davis, Banks shot him dead in the vehicle and left the body partially buried in a snowbank nearby.

Investigators soon narrowed in on Gumrukcu after discovering emails between him and Davis revealing tensions over the failed oil deal. Gumrukcu was interviewed twice by the FBI and made false statements on both occasions, federal prosecutors said. Further inspection of cellphone data, bank information and messages identified the four men involved in the kidnapping and killing of Davis.

AstraZeneca has licensed Algen Biotechnologies' AI-powered gene-editing platform, AlgenBrain, to develop immune-related therapies in a deal worth up to $555 million. Reuters reports: AstraZeneca will get exclusive rights to develop and sell approved therapies, if any, that target immune system-related disorders in exchange for upfront and milestone payments to Algen. AstraZeneca has been advancing its cell and gene therapy capabilities through acquisitions and partnerships as it works towards its target of $80 billion in sales by 2030. Globally too, drugmakers are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence for drug development.

Monday's deal, however, does not include AstraZeneca buying a stake in the company, Algen CEO and co-founder Chun-Hao Huang told Reuters in an interview. "Together with AstraZeneca's deep expertise in translational science and clinical development, we aim to uncover new biological insights to accelerate the development of novel therapies," Huang said. Algen was spun out from the UC Berkeley lab where biochemist Jennifer Doudna pioneered the CRISPR technology that won her the Nobel Prize. The biotech firm's AI platform, AlgenBrain, can map genes to disease outcomes, helping the companies decide their development focus for targeted therapies.
