The Welsh Grand National-winning trainer Evan Williams has been jailed for three years for attacking a dog walker who was on his land.

Williams, 55, repeatedly struck Martin Dandridge, 72, with a hockey stick during the assault. Dandridge, from Swindon, suffered injuries including a fractured arm in the incident on Williams’s land at Llancarfan in south Wales in December 2024.

NEW YORK (ANP) - De oorlog in het Midden-Oosten en de sterk gestegen energieprijzen door het conflict zorgen voor een "toenemend complexe set aan risico's" voor de economie. Dat meldt topman Jamie Dimon van JPMorgan Chase in een toelichting op de kwartaalcijfers van de grootste bank van de Verenigde Staten. Dimon zegt wel dat de Amerikaanse economie weerbaar blijft.

Naast de oorlog wijst Dimon ook op onzekerheid over handelsbeleid, hoge begrotingstekorten in de wereld en verhoogde waarderingen op de aandelenbeurzen. "Hoewel we niet kunnen voorspellen waartoe die risico's en onzekerheid zullen leiden, zijn ze wel significant en bereiden we het bedrijf voor op een breed scala aan omstandigheden", aldus Dimon die veel invloed heeft op Wall Street.

De grootste Amerikaanse bank, gemeten naar bezittingen, zette in het eerste kwartaal een nettowinst in de boeken van 16,5 miljard dollar. Dat is 13 procent meer dan een jaar eerder. De inkomsten namen met 10 procent toe tot 50,5 miljard dollar.
