An anonymous reader shares a report: An Anthropic safety researcher quit, saying the "world is in peril" in part over AI advances. Mrinank Sharma said the safety team "constantly [faces] pressures to set aside what matters most," citing concerns about bioterrorism and other risks.

Anthropic was founded with the explicit goal of creating safe AI; its CEO Dario Amodei said at Davos that AI progress is going too fast and called for regulation to force industry leaders to slow down. Other AI safety researchers have left leading firms, citing concerns about catastrophic risks.

Het federale rechtssysteem in de VS is na een decennialange rechtse lobby compleet getransformeerd. Veel rechters houden er een oerconservatieve interpretatie van de grondwet op na, waarin presidentiële macht vaak boven grondrechten gaat. Ondertussen heeft het hooggerechtshof in een schimmige noodprocedure een krachtig nieuw wapen gevonden.

Ine is a picturesque old fishing village located on the Sea of Japan (northern) side of Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The town is known for its unique traditional wooden boathouses, called funaya, which are able to sit at water level because Ine Bay is so well protected from storms and tides. The funaya have "garages" for boats on the first floor, and storage and residential spaces above. There are about 230 funaya remaining today, stretching along five kilometers of coastline. They date back to the Edo period (1603 to 1868). Some are now cafes, restaurants, or guest houses, but many remain as private residences and workplaces.

The village is designated as a National Preservation District for traditional buildings.
