DEN HAAG (ANP) - D66-leider Rob Jetten is blij met het akkoord dat hij heeft gesloten met Dilan Yeşilgöz (VVD) en Henri Bontenbal (CDA). Kort nadat bekend was geworden dat de drie partijleiders een akkoord hebben bereikt op hoofdlijnen, zei Jetten dat de partijen vrijdag pas bekendmaken wat hun plannen zijn en hoe die worden betaald.
De afgelopen dagen hebben de onderhandelaars lange dagen gemaakt, volgens Jetten omdat ze snel klaar wilden zijn. "Uiteindelijk is het een van de snelste formaties van de laatste decennia."
"We hebben ontzettend veel zin om aan de slag te gaan. We gaan het met zijn drieën doen en we gaan samenwerken met andere partijen", aldus Jetten.
TEL AVIV (ANP/DPA/AFP) - De wederopbouw van de Gazastrook zal pas plaatsvinden als het gebied is gedemilitariseerd en Hamas-tunnels zijn vernietigd. Dat verklaarde de Israëlische premier Benjamin Netanyahu, die op een persconferentie ook duidelijk maakte geen Palestijnse staat te zullen toestaan in het kustgebied. Israël houdt volgens de rechtse leider op veiligheidsgebied de controle over Gaza.
De verklaring van Netanyahu volgde op de terugkeer van het lichaam van de laatste gijzelaar uit Gaza. "Nu richten we ons op het voltooien van de twee resterende taken: het ontwapenen van Hamas en het demilitariseren van Gaza van wapens en tunnels", aldus de premier. "Dat zal goedschiks of kwaadschiks gebeuren. Maar hoe dan ook, het zal gebeuren."
Netanyahu had het ook over de spanningen tussen de Verenigde Staten en Iran. "Als Iran de ernstige fout maakt om Israël aan te vallen, zullen we reageren met een kracht die Iran nog nooit heeft gezien."

Gun violence has now surpassed cancer and car accidents as the top killer of American children. Americans have a flawed fantasy that guns make them safer. The statistics say otherwise to an alarming degree, with analysis confirming that introducing a gun into a household makes a gun death by accident, homicide, or suicide six times more likely. If there was a factor that made you six times more likely to lose in Vegas or die in a car crash, would you embrace and defend that factor? Research shows that the mere presence of a gun makes a confrontation likely to escalate violently and death more likely. The title of this print, “Miss America’s Favorite Son” was inspired by a Circle Jerks lyric from the song “Wild in the Streets,” that says “Miss America, how’s your favorite son… do you care just what he’s done?”. Miss America’s favorite son has done a huge amount of damage to America’s families and yet the irrational impulse to protect the favorite son despite the cost is infuriating. Do we care what he’s done? Guns, especially in the wrong hands, are a huge problem, yet Americans reject common sense gun safety solutions to save lives. We can choose our children over guns if we want to! My friends Manny and Patricia Oliver lost their son Joaquin to a mass shooter at Parkland and founded the organization Change the Ref to reduce the influence of the NRA.
