NEW DELHI (ANP/RTR) - India en de Europese Unie zijn klaar met de onderhandelingen over een vrijhandelsakkoord, meldt de Indiase handelssecretaris Rajesh Agrawal. De deal zou dinsdag ondertekend kunnen worden tijdens de EU-India-top.
"Het zal een evenwichtig, toekomstgericht akkoord zijn voor een betere economische integratie met de EU. Het akkoord zal de handel en investeringen tussen beide partijen stimuleren", aldus Agrawal.
Voorzitter van de Europese Commissie Ursula von der Leyen en voorzitter van de EU-landen António Costa zijn maandag al in India als eregasten voor de parade ter ere van de Dag van de Republiek. Behalve een vrijhandelsdeal wordt ook gesproken over een defensiesamenwerking. Een conceptovereenkomst hierover wordt mogelijk ook dinsdag ondertekend.
Vanwege de gespannen handelsrelatie met de Verenigde Staten is de EU het afgelopen jaar druk bezig geweest handelsrelaties met andere delen van de wereld aan te halen.
Hoe je de liefde van je leven vindt? Het begint allemaal met verliefdheid en aantrekkingskracht. En liefde overwint alles, denk je waarschijnlijk. In de praktijk blijkt dat zelden zo te werken. Veel relaties ontstaan zonder helder kader en worden gaandeweg bijgestuurd, met wisselend succes.
Wat wél richting geeft, zijn de voorbeelden uit onze jeugd. De relaties die we zagen bij ouders en andere volwassenen vormen onbewust een blauwdruk. Voor sommigen pakt dat goed uit: zij groeiden op met respectvolle, stabiele relaties en zoeken later iets vergelijkbaars. Voor anderen leidt diezelfde vertrouwdheid juist naar dynamieken die bekend aanvoelen, maar niet per se gezond of bevredigend zijn.
Hoe het dan wel moet? Er zijn vier concrete criteria waaraan een partner moet voldoen.
Ten eerste: hoe iemand je behandelt. Respect en vriendelijkheid zijn basale voorwaarden. Zeker wanneer er conflicten ontstaan, is de manier van communiceren bepalend. Volwassen, empathisch en respectvol gedrag maakt het verschil tussen samen verder kunnen of vastlopen.
Ten tweede: respect van jouw kant. Los van het gedrag van de ander, gaat het om wie iemand is. Waarden, keuzes en levensstijl moeten oprecht respect oproepen en niet zijn gebaseerd op hoop dat de ander verandert, maar op acceptatie van wie die persoon nu is.
Chemie
Ten derde: compatibiliteit. Niet alles hoeft overeen te komen, maar de grote lijnen wel. Doelen, prioriteiten en de manier van leven moeten voldoende overlappen. Zie het als een schaal van nul tot tien: onder de vijf ontbreekt een werkbare basis.
Ten vierde: chemie. Zowel fysieke als emotionele aantrekkingskracht telt mee. De vonken hoeven er echt niet altijd van af te spatten, maar er moet wel voldoende wederzijdse aantrekkingskracht zijn om intimiteit en verbinding in stand te houden. Ook hier geldt: een minimale ondergrens is noodzakelijk.

Appearing in the high court, Frost said she was horrified by an email suggesting a Mail on Sunday journalist had confirmed to a convicted phone hacker that he was interested in information about her.

Friday 72-year-old Richard Stallman made a two-hour-and-20-minutes appearance at the Georgia Institute of Technology, talking about everything from AI and connected cars to smartphones, age verfication laws, and his favorite Linux distro. But early on, Stallman also told the audience how "I despise DRM...I don't want any copy of anything with DRM. Whatever it is, I never want it so badly that I would bow down to DRM." (So he doesn't use Spotify or Netflix...)
This led to an interesting moment when someone asked him later if we have an ethical obligation to avoid piracy.. First Stallman swapped in his preferred phrase, "forbidden sharing"...
"I won't use the word piracy to refer to sharing. Sharing is good and it should be lawful. Those laws are wrong. Copyright as it is now is an injustice."
Stallman said "I don't hesitate to share copies of anything," but added that "I don't have copies of non-free software, because I'm disgusted by it." After a pause, he added this. "Just because there is a law to to give some people unjust power, that doesn't mean breaking that law becomes wrong....
"Dividing people by forbidding them to help each other is nasty."
And later Stallman was asked how he watches movies, if he's opposed to DRM-heavy sites like Netflix, and the DRM in Blu-ray discs? "The only way I can see a movie is if I get a file — you know, like an MP4 file or MKV file. And I would get that, I suppose, by copying from somebody else."
"Sharing is good. Stopping people from sharing is evil."

As long as Republicans are disinterested in wooing Mecha AllyGator to their side, she will remain firmly on ours—provided I keep leaving deer carcasses on my lawn for her to feast on.
The GOP may control the executive office and both chambers of Congress. But they’ll never control Mecha AllyGator, so long as your Senate Minority Leader has any say.
