WhatsApp messages are a lot more personal; reading them is like being able to eavesdrop on a private conversation.”

Mirra Andreeva’s rise to glory at Roland Garros owes so much to her lighthearted relationship with her coach, Conchita Martínez

Conchita Martínez was in the middle of her account of her charge’s run to a first grand-slam title when she was rudely interrupted by a late arrival. Pursued by the rest of her team, tournament officials and a gloved staff member carrying the Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen, Mirra Andreeva entered the main interview room with the sole objective of causing mischief.

She interjected with a question. “What is the best thing about working with Mirra Andreeva?” the new French Open champion asked. When Martínez responded by explaining that she most values playing Uno against Andreeva and always winning, the 19-year-old raised her eyebrows and moved towards the exit. “That’s it? Have fun,” she said, smiling. As Andreeva left the room, Martínez wondered aloud if she had just been fired.

Een steek in de zomer is zelden onschuldig én zelden gevaarlijk. Hoe herkent u de dader, wat helpt echt tegen jeuk en wanneer is bellen met 112 levensreddend?

De zomer is begonnen en daarmee ook het seizoen van rode bultjes, jeukende plekken en plotselinge pijnscheuten. Wie deze week in de tuin zit of het raam openzet, deelt het terrein met muggen, wespen, teken, dazen en steeds vaker met exoten als de tijgermug en de Aziatische hoornaar. De eerste vraag na een steek is daarom geen medische, maar een entomologische: welk beest was het eigenlijk?

Nederland is lang verwend geweest zonder mugoverdraagbare ziekten. Door klimaatverandering moeten we waakzamer worden.

Dat onderscheid bepaalt namelijk wat u moet doen. Bij een mug, wesp of hoornaar volstaat in vrijwel alle gevallen koeling: een nat washandje, een ijsklontje in een doek of een zalfje met menthol of aloë vera. Bij erge jeuk kan een hooikoortstablet ( antihistaminicum) de afweerreactie temperen. Een bijensteek vraagt om één extra handeling: schraap de achtergebleven angel met een nagel of mesje weg, knijp er niet in. Een tekenbeet vereist juist géén zalfjes of alcohol, maar een puntig pincet of tekentang die de teek recht uit de huid trekt — en daarna drie maanden alertheid op een rode kring of koorts.

Wanneer 112?

De grens tussen ongemak en noodgeval is helder. Een bult van tien centimeter op de steekplek blijft een lokale reactie. Maar bij een dikke tong, gezwollen hals, benauwdheid of duizeligheid telt elke minuut: bel 112 en help bekenden zo nodig met hun EpiPen. Hetzelfde geldt voor een wesp die via een blikje cola in de mond verdwijnt — de zwelling kan binnen minuten de luchtweg afsluiten. De gouden zomerregel blijft dus de saaiste: kijk altijd even in uw glas voor u drinkt.

De belangrijkste regel na een steek: blijf eraf — wie de bult openhaalt, zet de deur open voor bacteriën.

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders announced a plan for the public to take a 50% ownership stake in AI companies, remembers the Associated Press.

And then OpenAI's Sam Altman "told Sanders that he, too, wants the public to have equity in AI companies."


Though the CEO said he couldn't support Sanders' threshold of 50%, he nonetheless wanted to work with him to advocate for the general idea, according to people with knowledge of the conversation. The nearly hourlong meeting in Sanders' Senate office this week, held at Altman's request, highlighted the inherent tension between AI powerhouses and policymakers as Americans are increasingly asked to accept the costs of the AI boom even as they remain unconvinced of its direct benefits.
Yet it's also creating odd political bedfellows fueled by populism as politicians from Sanders to President Donald Trump embrace giving the public a stake in AI's growth. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Friday, Trump described a potential partnership "where the American people can benefit from the success of AI" and said executives from leading AI companies will visit the White House, "probably next week," to discuss the idea.
The article points out that Altman also met with congressional leaders from both of America's political parties.
