Ine is a picturesque old fishing village located on the Sea of Japan (northern) side of Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. The town is known for its unique traditional wooden boathouses, called funaya, which are able to sit at water level because Ine Bay is so well protected from storms and tides. The funaya have "garages" for boats on the first floor, and storage and residential spaces above. There are about 230 funaya remaining today, stretching along five kilometers of coastline. They date back to the Edo period (1603 to 1868). Some are now cafes, restaurants, or guest houses, but many remain as private residences and workplaces.

The village is designated as a National Preservation District for traditional buildings.

LONDEN (ANP/RTR) - De Amerikaanse president Donald Trump is van plan de importheffingen op verschillende staal- en aluminiumproducten te verlagen. Dat meldde de Britse zakenkrant Financial Times vrijdag op basis van bronnen.

Vorig jaar kwam Trump met tarieven tot 50 procent op de invoer van staal en aluminium. Ook breidde hij de heffingen uit naar een reeks goederen gemaakt van die metalen, waaronder wasmachines en ovens.

Maar de regering is nu bezig met het herzien van de lijst van producten die door de heffingen worden getroffen en is van plan enkele producten vrij te stellen, hebben meerdere ingewijden gezegd tegen de krant. Washington zou ook stoppen met het almaar toevoegen van producten aan de heffingenlijst en in plaats daarvan meer inzetten op gerichte nationale veiligheidsonderzoeken naar specifieke goederen.

De Amerikaanse overheid weigerde commentaar te geven op vragen van de krant.

LELYSTAD (ANP) - Het hoofdgebouw van Lelystad Airport wordt vrijdagochtend nog steeds bezet door klimaatactivisten van Greenpeace. De actievoerders hebben de nacht doorgebracht op de luchthaven en de milieuorganisatie zegt dat ze net zo lang blijven tot de politiek een definitieve streep zet door de opening van de luchthaven in Lelystad.

Ongeveer twintig activisten van Greenpeace gingen donderdag rond 07.00 uur het hoofdgebouw binnen, waarna ze de deur barricadeerden. Die zijn nu nog steeds op de luchthaven. Greenpeace zegt zich te hebben voorbereid op een langdurig verblijf. De milieuorganisatie laat weten dat er ook een aantal politieagenten aanwezig waren in de nacht op Lelystad Airport. De politie heeft vooralsnog niet ingegrepen.

De luchthaven zei eerder al het recht op demonstratie te accepteren. Een woordvoerder zei het aan de politie over te laten of het hoofdgebouw ontruimd moet worden.

NEW YORK (ANP/AFP) - De juridisch directeur van Goldman Sachs, Kathryn Ruemmler, stapt op bij de Amerikaanse zakenbank na ophef over haar nauwe banden met zedendelinquent Jeffrey Epstein. Dat liet topman David Solomon weten.

De 54-jarige Ruemmler, eerder juridisch adviseur in het Witte Huis onder oud-president Barack Obama, lag onder vuur na publicatie van nieuwe documenten door het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie. Daaruit blijkt dat ze tot in 2019 contact had met Epstein, ook nadat hij opnieuw was opgepakt op verdenking van mensenhandel en seksueel misbruik.

Uit e-mails blijkt dat Ruemmler hem adviseerde over zijn publieke imago en hielp bij het opstellen van verklaringen. In sommige mails sprak ze Epstein aan als "Uncle Jeffrey", terwijl Epstein haar bedankte voor haar vriendschap. In documenten wordt ze bovendien genoemd als reserve-executeur in een versie van zijn testament. Ruemmler heeft eerder volgehouden dat het contact professioneel was.
