Dare I make a suggestion from across the pond to help remedy football’s terrible implementation of VAR? Virtually none of America’s conduct is praiseworthy these days, but the one thing we have done well is the way video reviews have been implemented. The key has been the challenge system, rather than reviewing almost every important call, as in the Premier League. Managers/coaches are given a very limited number of challenges to on-field decisions, and they need to decide whether or not to challenge almost immediately. If their challenge is correct, the call is overturned and they get another to use later. If they are wrong, they lose the ability to challenge any important ref howlers that might be just around the corner. The video booth can’t intrude with some piece of minutiae that no one on the field noticed, and we don’t typically have 1,057 controversies per game. There is one downside for fans: highly entertaining manager meltdowns are now a rarity here. If you really believe a call is wrong, you challenge it, and if you don’t have a challenge because you were wrong in your last one, you eat some humble pie, something the former-player pundits of the Premier League should consider adding to their diets” – Steve Plever.

Hollywood staat op zijn kop: er gaat een nepfilmpje viraal waarin Tom Cruise en Brad Pitt aan het vechten zijn. Het is gemaakt met de AI-app Seedance en het resultaat is verbluffend: niemand die ziet dat het fake is.

Filmmaker Ruairi Robinson gaf Seedance, de AI-videogenerator van ByteDance (ook eigenaar van TikTok) maar twee instructies. Dat was genoeg.

Niet voor niets vrezen filmmakers voor hun baan. Zo schreef Deadpool-schrijver Rhett Reese op X over de nepvideo: "Ik zeg het met tegenzin, maar het is waarschijnlijk voorbij voor ons."

En wordt er dan geen copyright geschonden? Daar is bijna niets tegen te doen, legt Roland de Bruin, docent recht en technologie aan de Universiteit Utrecht, uit aan RTL Nieuws.

"Ja, er bestaat portretrecht. Maar voor jou en mij gaat dat recht verder dan voor publieke personen, zoals Brad Pitt en Tom Cruise. Zolang duidelijk is gemaakt dat het hier om AI gaat, zou dat moeten mogen. Ook het privacyrecht zou in dit geval niet per se betekenen dat deze video niet mag."

BERLIJN (ANP/BLOOMBERG) - De grootste vakbond van Duitsland beschuldigt Tesla ervan een giftige werkomgeving te creëren in zijn autofabriek bij Berlijn. De Amerikaanse fabrikant van elektrische auto's laat werknemers te hard werken en zet zieke medewerkers onder druk, aldus IG Metall woensdag.

De vakbond heeft een kort geding aangespannen vanwege vermeende valse beschuldigingen dat een van haar leden een ondernemingsraadsvergadering op een laptop zou hebben opgenomen. IG Metall heeft aanklagers gevraagd een lokale Tesla-manager te onderzoeken wegens laster.

Het management van Tesla valt vakbonden in Duitsland aan "met ongekende agressie", aldus een regionale leider van IG Metall.

Reactie

Tesla heeft volgens persbureau Bloomberg nog niet gereageerd op de beschuldigingen. Het Duitse personeel klaagt al langer over oneerlijke arbeidsomstandigheden. Topman Elon Musk heeft meermaals zijn vijandigheid geuit tegenover vakbonden.

In de fabriek in het Duitse Grünheide produceert Tesla de Model Y.

ROME (ANP/RTR) - De slagtand van een beroemd beeld van een olifant in Rome is afgebroken. Het gaat om een sculptuur uit 1667 naar ontwerp van Gian ⁠Lorenzo Bernini. Hoewel de politie nog onderzoekt waardoor het beeld beschadigd is geraakt, gaat de Italiaanse minister van Cultuur Alessandro Giuli al uit van vandalisme.

Het marmeren beeld, dat in de volksmond Elefantino (Olifantje) wordt genoemd, staat vlakbij het Pantheon op het Piazza della Minerva. Op de rug van de olifant staat een oude Egyptische obelisk.

De linkerslagtand werd eerder deze week ontdekt aan de voet van het beeld. De politie onderzoekt nog of de slagtand eraf is gevallen door de zware regenval, per ongeluk werd beschadigd of expres is afgebroken.

'Barbaarse daad'

Minister Giuli spreekt al van een "bizarre barbaarse daad". "Het is onaanvaardbaar dat de artistieke en culturele nationale nalatenschap zulke ernstige schade is berokkend."

In november 2016 raakte de punt van dezelfde slagtand vergelijkbaar beschadigd.
