WILLEMSTAD (ANP) - De rechter-commissaris op Curaçao heeft dinsdagmiddag (lokale tijd) de hechtenis van tophonkballer Jonathan Schoop (34) opgeheven. Schoop blijft nog wel verdachte in een grootschalig onderzoek naar illegaal wapenbezit.

Schoop werd op 29 januari met nog acht personen aangehouden in het kader van een onderzoek naar illegaal wapenbezit. Tijdens invallen, onder meer in het huis van Schoop, werden vuurwapens, munitie, patroonhulzen en messen in beslag genomen. Op 11 februari werd zijn hechtenis met zestig dagen verlengd.

De advocaat van Schoop heeft dinsdag tegen lokale media gezegd dat de hechtenis is geschorst. Het Openbaar Ministerie heeft bevestigd dat Schoop is vrijgelaten, maar geeft verder geen informatie over de zaak.

Schoop werd vanwege zijn hechtenis niet geselecteerd voor het Nederlandse team, dat in maart uitkomt op de World Baseball Classic (WBC).

Hij speelde van 2013 tot 2023 in de Amerikaanse Major League. Hij kwam uit voor Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins en Detroit Tigers. Schoop speelde ook op verschillende toernooien voor Nederland.

These 10 House Haeds are designed individually, not combined randomly, this allowed me to have full creative freedom. The collection of unique pieces with its own theme, on the one hand takes up the stylistic features of the main collection, on the other it plays with elements of reality. The theme is precisely the reversal of the perception of reality. There are houses that melt, there are houses of which you can see the inside, with rooms and internal organs that mix, there are impossible houses, daughters of Esher. There is this one here, which at first glance is collapsing, but which is actually being reborn and rebuilding itself, animated by a green energy that gives it the strength to come back to life from the rubble.
