The pop singer was stopped by police in Ventura county, California, after driving erratically, and was found to have drugs and alcohol in her system. She was briefly detained, and her manager called Spears’ actions “completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”

Much remains unclear about the significance and durability of the two-week pause in the US and Israel’s war on Iran. But one aspect of the conflict remains as clear today as it was six weeks ago. Donald Trump doesn’t have a plan. Benjamin Netanyahu does.
Israel’s war aims were to maximally degrade the capacity of the Iranian state, achieving not so much regime change as state implosion. Despite the ceasefire, Netanyahu has emphasised that this is “not the end of the campaign” and that Israel’s “finger is on the trigger” to resume combat. A seasoned strategist, he has spent the second Trump administration seizing the opportunity of geopolitical fluidity to reach for his end goal: a Greater Israel.

Until last year, I couldn’t remember the last time I’d done a jigsaw puzzle. It must have been at least 20 years ago. As far as I was concerned, puzzles were for children. There were always other more exciting, interesting and productive things to do – or so I thought.
While rummaging around at home on a rainy autumn afternoon, however, I stumbled upon a jigsaw puzzle that had been lying untouched since my husband and I were given it a few years ago. I’m not sure what came over me – perhaps it was because my husband was watching a film that didn’t particularly interest me – but I decided to give it a go. I was immediately hooked.

Researchers at London’s Institute of Cancer Research and the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dublin have developed the method with the goal of sparing potentially thousands of patients from being given drugs that would be ineffective in fighting their cancers.

With the endless library of films we all have at our fingertips, in our DVD collections and on whatever the cloud is, finding your top feelgood movie can be a deceptively hard task. Though it seems obvious now, mine was so familiar to me that somehow it managed to hide in plain sight. Eventually, I had to ask my partner what she thought my comfort movie was. She answered decisively: Hot Fuzz. And she’s absolutely right. How could it not be?
Hot Fuzz is Edgar Wright’s second entry in his Cornetto trilogy, preceded by the cult classic Shaun of the Dead and followed by pub crawl alien invasion adventure The World’s End. I’m not convinced Hot Fuzz is Wright’s best film – it’s not even my favourite. But as far as feelgood movies go, it’s unbeatable.
Continue reading...Donald Trump heeft ongekend hard uitgehaald naar paus Leo XIV. De Amerikaanse president noemt de paus “zwak, veel te liberaal en een ramp op buitenlands beleid”. Als klap op de vuurpijl post hij een megalomane AI-foto van zichzelf als Jezus.
Tijdens een vlucht terug naar Washington ging Trump los op sociale media, waarna hij zijn aanval op het vliegveld nog eens dunnetjes overdeed. “Ik ben geen fan van paus Leo”, zei hij droogjes. Volgens Trump “doet hij het helemaal niet goed” en zou hij beter “stoppen met het pleasen van radicaal links”.
Aanvallen op de man
De uitbarsting volgt op opmerkingen van de paus, die afgelopen weekend waarschuwde dat een “waan van almacht” de oorlog tussen de VS, Israël en Iran aanjaagt. Zonder Trump bij naam te noemen, was de boodschap duidelijk: religie mag geen excuus zijn voor geweld.
Trump zag dat anders. “Ik wil geen paus die het prima vindt dat Iran kernwapens heeft”, sneerde hij. Ook beschuldigde hij Leo ervan “zwak te zijn op criminaliteit” en suggereerde zelfs: “Misschien houdt hij wel van misdaad.”
Oproep tot vrede
De paus sprak zaterdagavond in de Sint-Pietersbasiliek in het Vaticaan, waar hij opriep tot vrede. Eerder zei hij al dat God “niet luistert naar gebeden van mensen die oorlog voeren” en dat bloed aan de handen gebed zinloos maakt. Toen Trump dreigde dat “een hele beschaving vannacht kan verdwijnen”, noemde Leo dat “volstrekt onaanvaardbaar”.
Maar Trump ging verder dan alleen Iran. Hij viel de paus ook aan vanwege kritiek op Amerikaanse acties in Venezuela. “Ik wil geen paus die de president bekritiseert terwijl ik precies doe waarvoor ik met een enorme overwinning ben gekozen”, aldus Trump.
Alsof dat nog niet genoeg was, claimde hij dat Leo zijn positie deels aan hem te danken heeft. “Als ik niet in het Witte Huis zat, zat hij niet in het Vaticaan”, stelde Trump. Zijn advies aan de paus: “Herpak je, gebruik je gezonde verstand en wees een groot paus; geen politicus.”

ANTWERPEN (ANP) - In Zeeuwse natuurgebieden aan de grens met België dreigt een milieuramp te ontstaan. Medewerkers van beheerder Het Zeeuwse Landschap hebben op diverse plekken olie aangetroffen en ook enkele besmeurde vogels gezien, onder meer in het Verdronken Land van Saeftinghe. Dat is een moeilijk begaanbaar getijdengebied op de grens van Nederland en België waar dagelijks water in en uit stroomt. Eind vorige week lekte in de Antwerpse haven zware stookolie in het water bij het tanken van een schip.
"We weten niet goed hoeveel olie de natuurgebieden nog gaat bereiken, daarom is het moeilijk te zeggen wat ons te wachten staat", zegt een woordvoerster van Het Zeeuwse Landschap. "Op het water ligt een dunne oliefilm, maar dikke klonten stookolie zakken naar beneden. Die spoelen mogelijk nog aan."
De Zeeuwse organisatie is van plan met vrijwilligers de aangespoelde olie op te ruimen. "Maar er is nog geen actie op touw gezet, dat gebeurt in afstemming met Rijkswaterstaat en de veiligheidsregio."
BERLIJN (ANP/DPA/BLOOMBERG) - De Duitse regering wil de prijzen aan de pomp verlagen. Bondskanselier Friedrich Merz kondigde daarvoor een accijnsverlaging op benzine en diesel van 17 cent per liter aan.
Volgens Merz wordt de situatie voor automobilisten en bedrijven op deze manier snel beter. De kosten van de maatregel zijn ongeveer 1,6 miljard euro. Ook wordt het voor werkgevers mogelijk om een belastingvrije premie van 1000 euro aan werknemers te betalen.
Ook in Duitsland zijn de prijzen aan de pomp sinds het uitbreken van de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten opgelopen. Zondag kostte een liter diesel 2,364 euro en een liter benzine 2,164 euro. Daarmee was Duitsland al goedkoper dan Nederland. De adviesprijs voor brandstof in Nederland ligt enkele tientallen centen hoger.
Hoop op een snelle heropening van de Straat van Hormuz lijkt vervlogen nu de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump heeft aangekondigd dat de VS de zeestraat gaat blokkeren. De olieprijzen liepen maandag daardoor weer op.
