As one of the esteemed (ok, maybe that’s a bit much) pro team members for the 3 Legged Thing brand, I’m excited to introduce you to the new kids, James and Jason! And, if it’s not obvious, by ‘kids’ I mean TRIPODS.
If you’re not interested in my technobabble, head straight to the Kickstarter (First 24hrs is the BEST pricing)
The team sent out James and Jason, though due to some recent medical issues I’ve not had a whole lot of time to use them, though I did take James with me up to Canberra, and as I was travelling swift and light, he was absolutely perfect as a compact, travel ready tripod.
Unlike most of the regular crowd of 3 Legged Thang Photographic Tripods, James has no middle column, so, as a 6’3″ person I did have to work with a lower view-point, but also my camera and a lot of cameras, have flippy screens so it’s ZERO issue.

You can grab ‘Early Bird’ pricing in the first 24hrs on the 3 Legged Thing Kickstarter Here
I’ve also had one product shoot and, again, keeping the carrying of extra ‘stuff’ on the lighter side, James was perfect for what I needed to do – he’s a very capable, perfectly compact carbon fibre tripod worthy of a second glance.

Let’s talk ‘Jason’ for a minute! I haven’t had a chance to get to know Jason aside from “Whoa, he’s big!” Great for a super sturdy, yet strangely compact due to the middle column thing.

This big guy, Jason, is BIG, he’s proper tall even without his middle leg, the photo below is of Jason towering over my “regular” tripod, the 3 Legged Thing Winston v2.0 Combo (A fave) and while there’s a tiny bit of perspective helping him look large, he is a genuinely tall tripod.

I’ve been a fan of 3 Legged Thing for years, I’ve worked with them, and I’m also a member of their Pro Team. But the team there like us to tell it straight, and I don’t recommend gear I don’t genuinely rate.
I love their gear and am very happy to recommend it, or other products in their range. If you have questions about which tripod model is right for you, feel free to ask in the comments.
