Manchester City eked a win by the slimmest of margins on Sunday, setting up a season finale that will be determined by nerves

It was probably Arsenal’s best performance in two months, but that will be scant consolation. Manchester City’s win on Sunday leaves Pep Guardiola’s side in control of the title race; they will go top of the Premier League on goal difference if they beat Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday. Both sides will then have five games to play.

Sunday’s game was decided by desperately fine margins. What prevented Eberechi Eze’s whipped shot from just outside the box going in? An inch? Half of one? Gabriel also struck the woodwork, while Kai Havertz headed a great chance a fraction over the crossbar in injury time. It was a defeat that has handed City the advantage in the title race, but it could very easily have been a battling draw to preserve Arsenal’s lead and, perhaps more importantly, restore morale.

The Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is confident Formula One will find a constructive way forward in an approach of using a “scalpel rather than a baseball bat”, as the sport’s leaders meets on Monday to agree changes to the new regulations which have come in for considerable criticism over the opening three races this year.

Technical and sporting considerations have been discussed twice since the last round in Japan and on Monday the senior representatives, including the FIA, team principals and their CEOs, the power-unit manufacturers and F1’s CEO Stefano Domenicali met to agree the changes, which remain subject to ratification by the world motorsport council. It is expected this will be in time for the next round in Miami on 3 May.

Traces of cocaine that pollute rivers and lakes may accumulate in the brains of salmon and disrupt their behaviour, according to researchers who warn of unknown consequences for fish populations.

Juvenile Atlantic salmon that were artificially exposed to the drug and its main breakdown product swam further and dispersed more widely across a lake, suggesting the substances can affect where the fish go, what they eat and how vulnerable they are to predators.

LONDEN (ANP/RTR) - Teambaas Toto Wolff van Mercedes is onder de indruk van de manier waarop Kimi Antonelli met de druk omgaat. De 19-jarige Italiaan won de laatste twee grands prix (China en Japan) in de Formule 1 en is de jongste leider ooit in het kampioenschap.

"Hij doet dat heel goed. Er zijn momenten waarop we hem steunen, andere keren zetten we hem juist onder druk", zei Wolff tijdens een videocall met verslaggevers. "Natuurlijk wil iedereen in Italië nu dat hij wereldkampioen wordt en sommigen vergelijken hem al met Ayrton Senna, maar ik lees dat niet graag. Die jongen is pas 19 jaar oud."

Antonelli voldoet volgens Wolff precies aan de verwachtingen bij Mercedes. "We zijn wat Kimi betreft altijd heel duidelijk geweest. Zijn eerste jaar was een leerjaar. Met hoogtepunten, maar ook met moeilijke momenten. Nu is hij in zijn tweede jaar en zien we dat hij zich blijft ontwikkelen zoals we hadden gehoopt en voorspeld."

De Formule 1 krijgt begin mei een vervolg met de Grote Prijs van Miami.

HUY (ANP/BELGA) - De Belgische schaatsster Sandrine Tas (30) maakt woensdag haar WorldTour-debuut als wielrenster in de Waalse Pijl. Tas werd in februari op de Olympische Winterspelen van Milaan vierde op de 5000 meter schaatsen, op slechts 0,3 seconde van de Italiaanse olympisch kampioen Francesca Lollobrigida. Merel Conijn pakte het zilver op die afstand namens Nederland.

Tas gaat woensdag van start in de Belgische ploeg Lotto-Intermarché. "Na mijn schaatsseizoen heb ik even de tijd genomen om uit te rusten en de batterijen weer op te laden", zegt Tas tegen persbureau Belga. "Sinds het openingsweekend volg ik de koers op televisie en dat zorgt er zeker voor dat je zin krijgt om zelf in het peloton mee te rijden."

De Belgische reed als wielrenster al mee aan kleine koersen en aan Belgische kampioenschappen. Na de Spelen van Milaan maakte ze bekend dat ze zich de komende twee jaar wil focussen op het wielrennen.

Deze week werken de aannemers in opdracht van Rijkswaterstaat aan de A4, de A15, de A20, de toltunnel A24 en de N59. Ook gaan de werkzaamheden van de RET aan het metrospoor tussen Beurs en Voorschoterlaan door.
