KYIV (ANP) - Oekraïne heeft diep in Rusland doelen bestookt met de eigen Flamingo-kruisraketten. Die legden een afstand af van meer dan 1500 kilometer, meldt president Volodymyr Zelensky.

Oekraïne viel volgens de president onder meer defensie-industrie aan in Tsjeboksary. "De fabriek leverde navigatieapparatuur voor de Russische marine, de raketindustrie, de luchtvaart en gepantserde voertuigen."

De Russische autoriteiten maakten zelf melding van grootschalige Oekraïense droneaanvallen. De luchtafweer vernietigde 's nachts 289 onbemande toestellen uit het buurland, aldus persbureau TASS.

Bestand

In Tsjeboksary zouden drie personen gewond zijn geraakt, volgens TASS door een droneaanval. De burgemeester van de stad heeft inwoners opgeroepen zoveel mogelijk thuis te blijven en er komen noodopvanglocaties.

Beide strijdende partijen gebruiken al langer drones en raketten om doelen op elkaars grondgebied aan te vallen. Oekraïne wil in de komende nacht een bestand laten ingaan, Rusland op 8 en 9 mei.

Russian attack on gas facility in Poltava region kills three energy firm employees and two emergency service workers

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused the Kremlin of “utter cynicism” for killing five people in overnight strikes at the same time as seeking a truce so it can stage a military parade in Moscow.

Three employees of the state energy firm Naftogaz were killed in an initial attack on a gas facility in Ukraine’s central Poltava region, and two emergency service workers died at the scene in a follow-on bombing. Thirty-seven people were injured in the strikes.

The buzz after I mentioned doing some scouting in the men’s game for Bayern Munich, during my appearance as an analyst on Swedish broadcaster SVT for the men’s team’s Champions League match against Real Madrid, is a bit of a double-edged sword.

On the one hand, I thought: ‘Why is this such big news? It shouldn’t be.’ On the other hand, I understand it and I’m happy there has been so much positivity and encouragement around it. I hope it widens people’s perspectives and helps break barriers for women working in men’s football, because I think we’re ready for that, men’s football is ready for it and it needs it. I hope it inspires other clubs to see it as a good idea. Why not give these opportunities to someone who wants them and wants to prepare for their career after football?

Hasina Nasimi* had been counting down to 27 January 2025, the day she was booked on a flight with her husband and four children, to Denver, Colorado. Her brother, four sisters and mother were already there, rebuilding their lives after fleeing Afghanistan.

Nasimi’s father and brother were killed by the Taliban; her brother shot in 2018 because the family’s eldest son Mohammad had worked as a translator for American forces during the US-led invasion of Afghanistan. Since then, the family had received threats and lived cautiously. When the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, they knew they had to leave.
