The number of antisemitic hate crimes recorded in April in London was the highest in two years, data shows, as the Metropolitan police commit to deploying 100 extra officers to protect Jewish communities.

The force says a “community protection team” will be set up, combining neighbourhood policing with counter-terrorism capabilities, as British Jews face “some of the highest levels of hate crime alongside significant terrorist and hostile state threats”.

Job vacancies in the UK bounced back in March but remained near a five-year low, and openings for graduates slumped more than a third.

UK job vacancies showed signs of recovery in March, rising 3.74% month-on-month to 752,711 – the second monthly increase after an extended period of decline, according to the job matching platform Adzuna. Yet despite this tentative rebound, the overall picture remains tough for job seekers. Vacancies are still 13.60% lower than in March 2025, and the market remains near its weakest level since 2021.

Like BP last week, these are unearned windfall profits driven by Trump’s war with Iran.

Equinor now wants to cash in even more by developing the Rosebank oil field, which would be a terrible deal for the UK. This government must put the needs of the British public – for affordable energy and a safe climate – ahead of this Norwegian oil giant’s relentless pursuit of profit.

AMSTERDAM (ANP) - De Amsterdamse AEX-index is woensdag aan het begin van de middag naar een nieuw recordniveau gestegen. Dat is het gevolg van de sterk gedaalde olieprijzen door hoop bij beleggers op een snel einde aan de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten. De hoofdgraadmeter op het Damrak steeg omstreeks 13.30 uur met 2 procent naar een stand van 1034,44 punten.

Op 25 februari tikte de AEX op 1031,79 punten de hoogste tussentijdse koers ooit aan en eindigde de index op een slotrecord van 1030,06 punten. Op 27 februari, een dag voor de Amerikaans-Israëlische aanvallen op Iran, sloot de index op iets meer dan 1027 punten.

BURBANK (ANP) - Entertainmentconcern Walt Disney heeft het afgelopen kwartaal meer verdiend aan zijn streamingdiensten en films. Ook gaven bezoekers meer uit tijdens bezoeken aan Disney-pretparken en cruises, wat een daling van het aantal internationale bezoekers aan de Amerikaanse parken compenseerde.

Het leverde Disney in het tweede kwartaal van zijn gebroken boekjaar een omzet van 25,2 miljard dollar op, 7 procent meer dan een jaar eerder. De winst voor aftrek van belastingen steeg 9 procent tot 3,4 miljard dollar. Door een hogere belastingaanslag daalde de nettowinst wel.

Disney wijst onder andere naar animatiefilm Zootopia 2 als voorbeeld hoe populaire films op meerdere manieren geld opleveren. De film leverde in de bioscopen wereldwijd bijna 2 miljard dollar op en trok ook veel kijkers op streamingdienst Disney+. Het succes van die film in China trekt ook weer mensen naar een op de film gebaseerde attractie in Shanghai Disneyland.

Microsoft is halting Copilot development for Xbox consoles. New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), saying the company "will stop development of Copilot on console," retiring features that "don't align with where we're headed." Whatever the future holds for Xbox, it appears that Copilot will not feature in it. The Copilot brand has not become the halo Microsoft hoped for. The AI assistant has yet to catch fire with customers in the same way as rivals like Gemini and ChatGPT. Last month, the Copilot icon was removed from Notepad, and earlier this year, Microsoft promised to rethink its approach to foisting the technology into every crevice of its flagship operating system and applications. It is against this background that the Gaming Copilot is being discontinued in its current form before ever leaving beta. Although the recommendation engine may have been useful to some beta users, it doesn't fit with where Sharma wants to take the Xbox platform, so it must walk the plank. Sharma also said that "Copilot on mobile" is being wound down, which we suspect refers only to the Xbox-related mobile Copilot experience, not the wider Copilot apps for iOS and Android. Customers paying for Copilot services on other Microsoft platforms, such as GitHub, are no doubt watching the Xbox developments with interest. "Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers," Sharma said.
