Vrouwen verdienen in Nederland gemiddeld nog altijd minder dan mannen in gelijkwaardige functies. Het kabinet wil af van die hardnekkige loonkloof. Een nieuwe wet verplicht bedrijven salarisgegevens te delen met hun werknemers en het ministerie.

Als de actieve medewerkers van ExxonMobil in 2024 een flinke loonsverhoging krijgen, gaan de pensioenen niet omhoog. Volgens de afspraken hierover klopt dat. Maar er is ook afgesproken dat er in bijzondere gevallen extra geld beschikbaar komt, om de pensioenen toch te laten stijgen. Dit is zo’n geval, zegt de ondernemingsraad. Nee, zegt het concern. Ze vechten het uit voor de rechter.

ISTANBUL (ANP/RTR) - Een Turkse rechtbank heeft de belangrijkste oppositieleider Özgür Özel afgezet door het partijcongres waarbij hij in 2023 werd verkozen ongeldig te verklaren. Oppositiepartij CHP noemt de uitspraak een "gerechtelijke staatsgreep" en roept op tot protesten en juridische stappen.

Özel werd aangeklaagd door de staat. Volgens de rechtbank waren er onregelmatigheden bij het partijcongres en moet oud-oppositieleider Kemal Kilicdaroglu opnieuw worden aangesteld als interim-partijleider. Hij werd afgelopen april veroordeeld voor het beledigen van president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

De CHP staat in de peilingen ongeveer gelijk met Erdogans regerende AK-partij. Honderden partijleden en functionarissen zijn de afgelopen jaren vastgezet op basis van corruptieaanklachten die de partij ontkent.

Ook de burgemeester van Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, is lid van de CHP en is de officiële presidentskandidaat voor de verkiezingen van 2028. Hij werd in maart vorig jaar opgepakt en zit sindsdien vast.

Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has triggered global outrage after sharing footage of himself taunting bound activists who had been detained as they tried to sail to Gaza with aid.

The video has been widely condemned by world leaders, including the Italian prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, and by Israeli politicians, among them the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
