Scotland hoping to party like it’s 1999 and thwart France’s title ambitions

The hosts must conjure the spirit of their last title triumph, 27 years ago, when the sides meet at Murrayfield

Even now, 27 years on, Kenny Logan still remembers how good it felt. Back in 1999, as this year, Scotland were title outsiders before a crunch fixture against the defending champions, France. Beneath a bright blue Parisian sky they gloriously ripped up the script with five first-half tries and, thanks to England’s late implosion against Wales at Wembley a day later, hoisted the trophy at Murrayfield in front of 15,000 fans on the Monday.

For Logan, who landed five successful kicks on that famous afternoon, the timeless lessons of the story are twofold. The first is that Scotland have failed to win the tournament since; and the second is that, at times like this, fortune favours the brave: “When we went to France that year we took the game to them. That’s what Scotland will do this weekend – and probably do it better than we could.”

Berlin film festival head to keep job after Gaza free speech row

The German government convened a crisis meeting after several prize winners at this year’s event condemned Israel’s actions against Palestinians

The American head of the Berlin film festival, Tricia Tuttle, will keep her job after a free speech row over Gaza, but the event will have to consider a new code of conduct to “fight antisemitism”, the German culture ministry has said.

Tuttle’s position came under threat after an awards gala at the end of the 76th edition last month in which several prize winners condemned Israel’s actions against Palestinians from the stage.

House opens inquiry into Texas lawmaker over alleged affair with aide

Tony Gonzales allegedly had affair with Regina Ann Santos-Aviles, who later died after setting herself on fire

The House ethics committee said on Wednesday that it has opened an investigation of Tony Gonzales, a Republican representative from Texas, over allegations that include having an affair with an aide.

The top Republican and Democratic members on the committee said in a joint statement that an investigative panel would look into whether Gonzales engaged in sexual misconduct toward an employee in his office and whether he discriminated unfairly by dispensing special favors or privileges.

Does Ensemble ML (3 ML Models) Actually Work? I Tested It on 332K Orders

A 25-day production experiment processed 332K orders to compare a single Isolation Forest model against a 3-model ensemble (Isolation Forest, LSTM, Autoencoder) for data quality monitoring. The ensemble reduced false positives by 35% and caught 30% more real anomalies, with only a slight increase in inference time. Results show ensemble ML is worth the complexity for multi-type anomaly detection.
