AMSTERDAM (ANP) - De politie ziet de afgelopen jaren een toename van incidenten in de binnenstad van Amsterdam met mensen die 'gevoelsmatig weinig tot niets meer te verliezen hebben'. De politie meldt dit na berichtgeving van Het Parool. "Dit uit zich in overlastgevend gedrag, maar ook in winkeldiefstallen, bedreigingen, intimidaties en geweld", schrijft de politie in een schriftelijke reactie.

De politie ziet mensen die vanuit Oost-Europa naar Nederland zijn gekomen als arbeidsmigrant, hun baan en huis verliezen en daardoor gaan zwerven. Daarnaast bestaat de 'diverse groep' uit mensen met verslavingen en jongeren die in een asielprocedure zitten of al uitgeprocedeerd zijn, en daardoor een 'uitzichtloos bestaan leiden'.

"Het lijkt voor deze mensen niet uit te maken wat de eventuele strafrechtelijke gevolgen van hun daden zijn en de bereidheid om risico's te nemen is groot", schrijft de politie. Het gaat volgens de politie om 'brede maatschappelijke problematiek'. "Het zou enorm helpen als er een landelijke aanpak komt op de verschillende issues."
