Dit kondigde Trump vanmiddag al aan: na afgelopen nacht Iran te hebben aangevallen doet Amerika dat momenteel nog eens. De bombardementen van gisteren waren een reactie op het neerhalen van een Amerikaanse helikopter, deze bombardementen zijn dat ook, al valt het niet helemaal los te zien van de stroef verlopende onderhandelingen, waarover Trump een paar uur geleden nog zei dat het te lang duurde en Iran 'de prijs ging betalen'. Zo lijkt het ook een kwestie van intimidatie: beetje tempo maken, anders is dit nog maar het begin. Op het moment van schrijven klinken er op verschillende plekken in Iran explosies - op het eiland Kish, in de stad Minab, bij de haven van Sirik.

Update 23:34 - Overigens kondigt Pete Hegseth aan, over een mogelijke totaalhervatting van de oorlog: "A__ls er opnieuw een conflict zou moeten uitbreken, is ons vermogen om te richten, ons vermogen om te detecteren, ons vermogen om te zien en ons vermogen om netwerken binnen te dringen in de loop van de tijd alleen maar aanzienlijk verbeterd."
Update 23:36 - Diezelfde Hegseth kondigde tegenover Axios aan: "Als we met bommen moeten onderhandelen, dan doen we dat." Ondertussen vanuit Iran bericht over 'stevige reacties' op mogelijke bombardementen, die dus niet echt meer mogelijk zijn, maar nu bezig.
Update 23:38 - Daar is de bevestiging van het Amerikaanse Central Command: ze zijn begonnen, "De bombardementen zijn een reactie op Iraanse continue en ongefundeerde agressie." Het is allemaal zelfverdediging, aldus de Amerikanen, die natuurlijk ook weten wat Johan Cruijff zei over de beste manier van verdedigen.
Update 23:41 - Nu ook berichten over explosies in havestand Bandar Abbas, gelegen aan de Straat van Hormuz.
Update 23:45 - En nu lijkt ook Busher aan de beurt; ze zijn niet terughoudend vanavond, die Amerikanen.

Contract will last until Mahomes is 38
The Kansas City Chiefs and their starting quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, have agreed to a restructured contract that adds two years to his deal and pushes his total compensation past a half-billion dollars, according to sources.
Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450m contract in 2020 that set a benchmark not only for the quarterback position but for any NFL player. The latest extension ties the two-time MVP to the Chiefs through the 2033 season, when Mahomes will be 38, and it comes in at $504.75m, with incentives and escalators that could push the value beyond $520m.

The Fifa president launched a staunch defence of his organisation’s handling of the tournament, particularly regarding ticket prices and visa problems, and claimed no one else would have been able to secure the participation of Iran, who are at war with one of the three host nations, the United States.

Known for his vibrant palettes and flattened perspectives, Belgian artist Kristof Santy translates common sights and everyday objects into vivid tableaux. His paintings often highlight fruit and vegetables, tabletops, and modes of transportation, particularly those involved in industrial labor.
A new body of work continues Santy’s inquiries into the mundane, this time extending into fashions and furnishings. There’s a striped sweater vest with a nearly imperceptible wrinkle hanging from a rod and a modernist chair in fuchsia pushed against a kelly green wall. Earlier investigations appear, too, including a short, roll-up ladder dangling from the door of a helicopter as it hovers in the air sans operator.
