Opvallend nieuws uit Dordrecht, waar buurtbewoners bezwaar maken tegen de nieuwe vergunning voor theehuis Kayapinar (Turks voor: 'ouderwets gezellig') aan de Blekersdijk. De gemeente heeft die verlengd omdat er helemaal nooit meldingen van overlast zijn. Je vraagt je af hoe dat komt, tot je het AD leest. "Bezoekers staan volgens hen ’s avonds buiten te praten, te eten en te roken en gooien hun afval op straat. Ook parkeren ze hun auto’s fout. ,,Toen ik daar een keer foto’s van wilde maken, kwamen meteen drie mannen naar buiten en vroegen boos waar ik het lef vandaan haalde”, vertelde een buurvrouw voor de bezwaarschriftencommissie, die het bezwaar beoordeelt." Tja. En wat doet het AD dan? Dat stuurt netjes een (waarschijnlijk dankzij de prettige lokale sfeer anonieme) verslaggever voor wederhoor naar de niet op de hoorzitting aanwezige theehuiseigenaar. En hoe verloopt dat? "De verslaggever bezocht het etablissement dinsdagavond in de hoop een reactie te krijgen van de eigenaar. Een aanwezige medewerker was daar niet van gediend en werkte hem fysiek de zaak uit. De politie doet onderzoek naar de aangifte die de verslaggever ook namens het AD heeft ingediend." Gek hoor, nul klachten! "De gemeente beloofde een gesprek tussen bewoners en eigenaar te organiseren. Als dat gebeurt trekken de buren hun bezwaar in. ,,We zijn niet tegen het theehuis, maar het moet zich wel aan de regels houden”, stelden ze." Eind goed, al goed.
Musician says on Instagram he is ‘doing much better’ and receiving treatment and therapy after 2025 arrest
The musician Lil Nas X posted a moving video update to his Instagram on Wednesday morning. In the nearly three-minute clip, the artist – born Montero Lamar Hill – shared that he “has been in rehab for a few months” and since then, has returned home to Atlanta, where he is from and his family lives, and Los Angeles, where he resides.
The update comes in response to an event last summer in which the musician was charged with attacking Los Angeles police officers.

[...] At the end of the year, OpenAI had just over $50 billion in assets, with almost half of that in cash. [...] The financial condition of OpenAI is deeply concerning. $38.53 billion in losses are astronomical, and far higher than most believed it would be. Losses also appear to be mounting year-over-year at a dramatic rate, and I'm not sure how this company finds a way toward any kind of sustainability or profitability. As discussed, I have not editorialized much today. I believe the best thing I can do for the general public is to deliver this news as plainly as possible. Ars Technica's Kyle Orland offers a more editorial take, writing: All told, OpenAI's day-to-day "loss from operations" increased from $8.78 billion in 2024 to $20.92 billion in 2025, a concerning direction for a company that is telling investors it hopes to be profitable by 2030. But measured as a percentage of revenues, the company's operating losses slightly improved year to year, from 237 percent in 2024 to 160 percent in 2025.

BERLIJN (ANP/AFP) - Tennisster Aryna Sabalenka heeft twee weken na haar verrassende uitschakeling in de kwartfinale van Roland Garros een succesvolle comeback gemaakt. De nummer 1 van de wereld uit Belarus won op het grastoernooi van Berlijn van de Russin Ekaterina Aleksandrova en plaatste zich daarmee voor de kwartfinale.
Sabalenka had 1 uur en 20 minuten nodig om Aleksandrova in twee sets te verslaan: 6-4 6-4. Ze treft in de kwartfinale de Tsjechische Nikola Bartůňková.
Viervoudig grandslamwinnares Sabalenka ging nogal pijnlijk onderuit tegen Diana Sjnajder uit Rusland op Roland Garros. Ze verloor de laatste negen games in de wedstrijd. Na afloop was ze zwaar gedesillusioneerd. "Geen gedachten, geen emoties. Op dit moment wil ik gewoon stoppen met tennis", sprak ze.
DEN HAAG (ANP) - Vanwege de hitte nemen diverse hardloopevenementen die de komende dagen in het land worden gehouden maatregelen. De organisatie van de Vuurtorenloop in Hoek van Holland heeft zelfs besloten het evenement vrijdag helemaal te schrappen.
"De combinatie van warmte, een hoge luchtvochtigheid en kans op onweer brengt de veiligheid van de deelnemers, vrijwilligers en toeschouwers in gevaar", laat de Vuurtorenloop weten. In overleg met en op advies van het medische team, de gemeente Rotterdam en de veiligheidsregio is besloten de hardloopwedstrijd te schrappen.
De TT City Run in Assen meldt dat het programma zaterdag "na intensief overleg" met gezondheidsorganisaties en de gemeente is aangepast. "Programmaonderdelen met lange blootstelling aan de zon en/of kwetsbare doelgroepen gaan niet door."
Extra waterposten
Ook de Grachtenloop vrijdag in Haarlem treft maatregelen. Zo komen er extra waterposten, meer EHBO-capaciteit en meer schaduwvoorzieningen. Ook worden tijdslimieten ruimer.
Eerder deze week werd al bekend dat de marathon zaterdag in Sneek niet doorgaat, omdat de organisatie het EHBO-plan niet tijdig rondkreeg en deels ook vanwege de warme temperaturen.
Deelnemers overleden
Vorige maand raakten tijdens diverse hardloopevenementen in het land meerdere mensen bevangen door de warmte. Twee deelnemers aan de (halve) marathons van Utrecht en Leiden zijn overleden. Het is niet bekend waaraan.
De komende dagen wordt het steeds warmer en daarom geldt donderdag en vrijdag code geel voor bijna het hele land. Vanaf donderdag 10.00 uur is in het hele land ook het Nationaal Hitteplan van kracht, bedoeld als signaal voor de zorg voor kwetsbare mensen.
