​De Amerikaanse president Donald Trump kwam gisteren met een 14-plaatjes-vredesvoorstel om een einde te maken aan de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten. Dat meldt de Amerikaanse nieuwssite Axios op basis van verschillende bronnen. Iran heeft het plaatjesplan inmiddels ontvangen en zal genoodzaakt zijn met een reactie te komen richting het Witte Huis.

“Ik denk dat het een heel mooi voorstel is als ik het zo zie”, zegt Donald Trump. “Er zit van alles in en ik heb mijn best erop gedaan. Er zitten niet alleen mooie dingen in, maar ook minder mooie plaatjes. Dat kan ook niet anders. Het is wel het grootste plan ooit gemaakt door mij.”

Trump vervolgt: “Er is hard gewerkt aan dit voorstel. Steeds als ik een plaatje probeerde te verplaatsen, dan versprong de opmaak van het hele document. Ik ben er uiteindelijk twee dagen mee bezig geweest. Daarom krijgt Iran ook 48 uur de tijd om te reageren.”

Experts denken dat Iran niet zo lang de tijd nodig zal hebben. “Nee, hier scroll ik in 20 seconden doorheen.”

Our changing diet, which increasingly revolves around vegetable, makes wine-matching a bit trickier, but there’s no need to overthink it

At a recent tasting, I got chatting to a winemaker from Australia’s Clare Valley as I bravely made my way through his wares: a ripe, leathery shiraz and a deep, dark cabernet sauvignon that put me in mind of blackcurrant bushes. These were serious wines – and good value, too. A generation ago, such gutsy New World reds were all the rage, but now, lamented the winemaker, gen Z was more interested in lighter, cooler-climate wines, lower on the alcohol and brighter on the palate.

He had two theories on this. One was vanity: no one on Instagram or TikTok wants to drink a red wine that stains their teeth, which is bad news for producers of high-tannin wines such as malbec and cabernet. And, two: it’s also to do with the changing western diet. Aussie shiraz is the archetypal sausage-on-the-barbie wine; Argentinian malbec is a steakhouse cliché; and, in France, malbec is mainly grown around Cahors in the south-west, land of heavy cassoulets and fat-tastic maigrets de canard. You need something with a bit of muscle to stand up to all that.

First it was Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, now it is the blockade of the world’s petroleum artery in the Gulf. For the second time in four years, Britain is facing an energy crisis that has been made much worse because of the absence of preparation by its political leaders.

The fact is that our energy politics were conceived for a world where convulsive, global events were a thing of the past. The notion that it would be difficult to access supplies of oil or liquefied natural gas from the international markets did not figure in the understanding of the politicians and officials who shaped our perilous current moment. But even today, the advocates of energy sovereignty on the left and right appear to lack knowledge, understanding or power over this very foundational matter.

My first job, in 1961, was at the Belgrade theatre in Coventry, the first British civic theatre built after the second world war, with public funds and a subsequent Arts Council grant. My weekly wage was £8, enough to pay for my flat, which cost three guineas, and to eat well enough. Every city of similar size had a repertory company, presenting a new production every two weeks, and crucially providing employment for tyro actors in need of a prolonged apprenticeship in the company of senior players. You learned what you could and couldn’t do and what you could aspire to. Today, alas, there is not a single rep company in the UK and no comparable system for training new talent.

My Belgrade flat, built to house a member of the disbanded company, now holds the council’s office of outreach and education. What is unchanged since 1961 is the enthusiasm of audiences for lively theatre, classic or newly written. Going to live theatre is still one of the principal amusements in the UK.

Ja toch maar even over Nieuws van de Dag gisteravond, waar bij de herdenking van De Goddelijke Kale werd aangestipt hoe schandalig het is dat de VARA nog steeds niet toestaat dat andere tv-programma's het fragment waarin Marcel van Dam Pim Fortuyn een minderwaardig mens noemt uitzenden. Inderdaad een schande, maar wat ook een schande is, is dat Raymon Mens vervolgens (ergens vanaf 10m20s, als u door alle miljoenmiljard Talpa-reclames heen bent) zegt: "Het is natuurlijk een vuil spelletje, want ik heb ook wel de afgelopen jaren interviews met Marcel van Dam gezien, die wordt hier altijd naar gevraagd hè, wat Victor ook zegt, en dan zegt ie 'ja, ik heb dat anders gezegd' en ik denk 'nee, dat heb je niet anders gezegd, dat heb je letterlijk gezegd, maar ja, we willen dus die beelden uitzenden en dat mag dan niet."

Want hee. Wij van GeenStijl geloven er helemaal niks van dat Raymond mens de afgelopen jaren interviews met Marcel van Dam heeft gezien waarin hij zegt dat hij Pim Fortuyn nooit minderwaardig heeft genoemd, en dat hij dat anders heeft gezegd.

Ten eerste: wij  missen heus weleens wat, maar na een interview met Marcel van Dam waarin hij ontkent dat hij Pim Fortuyn een minderwaardig mens genoemd zou hebben, zouden wij alle verloven intrekken, er wekenlang minstens een topic per dag aan besteden, zeventien belletjetrekvideo's met Tom Staal produceren alsook een rechtszaak, Lange Mars Van Het Mediapark Naar Het Landgoed Van Marcel Van Dam en digitale 'Ik ben woedend'-briefkaartactie al dan niet in samenwerking met Amnesty International. Het zou dus kunnen, dat wij al die interviews gemist hebben, maar erg waarschijnlijk achten wij het niet.

Ten tweede: het zou ook wel een beetje gek zijn als Marcel van Dam zou ontkennen dat hij Pim Fortuyn een minderwaardig mens heeft genoemd, niet alleen omdat hij dit inderdaad gedaan heeft (zie video hieronder), maar ook omdat Marcel van Dam een week na de moord op Pim Fortuyn heeft erkend dat hij Fortuyn een minderwaardig mens heeft genoemd in een interview bij NOVA (zie video onder het Lagerhuis-fragment). 

Ten derde: in dat interview ontkent Van Dam wel degelijk iets, namelijk dat hij Pim Fortuyn een "Untermensch" heeft genoemd (omdat hij Pim Fortuyn voor zover bekend nooit een "Untermensch" heeft genoemd). Dat interview is vervolgens verknipt op het internet rond gaan zwerven, en waarschijnlijk heeft Raymond Mens dat ergens gezien (mogelijk bij NRC, dat overigens zeer snel rectificeerde) en in zijn geheugen opgeslagen. 

Veelzeggend over het soort opiniemaker dat talkshows graag hebben, en het soort opiniemaker dat Raymond Mens daarom is, en een van de twee redenen dat wij er hier dan toch maar weer een topic aan besteden: Mens zegt niet 'joh ik zag op twitter een fillempie voorbijkomen van een week na de moord', maar hij blaast het meteen op. Meneer heeft 'de afgelopen jaren' allerlei 'interviews' 'voorbij zien komen' waarin Marcel van Dam 'altijd' iets zou beweren wat Marcel van Dam dus nooit heeft beweerd. Maar ja, wel weer lekker een minuutje met gebakken lucht gevuld. 

Tweede reden voor een topic: een uitstekend excuus om dat Lagerhuis-fragment in zijn volle glorie uit de mottenballen te halen.
