AMSTELVEEN (ANP) - De Nederlandse tennissers spelen in september de wedstrijd in de Davis Cup tegen Colombia in de Maaspoort in Den Bosch. Dat meldde tennisbond KNLTB vrijdag. Het team van captain Paul Haarhuis werd bij de loting in februari gekoppeld aan Colombia.

"De Maaspoort is een fantastische locatie voor een Davis Cup-ontmoeting", zei Jacco Eltingh, directeur sport van de KNLTB via de bond. "De hal biedt een geweldige sfeer waarbij het publiek dicht op de baan zit en echt onderdeel wordt van de wedstrijd. We kijken ernaar uit om samen met de fans in Den Bosch een prachtige tennisambiance neer te zetten en het team maximaal te ondersteunen."

De twee landen spelen om een plaats in de kwalificaties voor de Finals van volgend jaar. Nederland behoorde tot een groep van dertien verliezende landen uit de eerste ronde van de kwalificaties, die het op moeten nemen tegen dertien winnende landen uit de play-offs van de World Group I.

De wedstrijden tegen Colombia zijn op 18 en 19 september.

Een parkeerboete, laadpaalbetaling of verificatieverzoek blijkt in steeds meer gevallen pure oplichting. Even een QR-code scnnen en voor je het weet wordt je bankrekening in recordtempo leeggetrokken.

Volgens waarschuwingen van de Fraudehelpdesk trekt er momenteel een nieuwe, geraffineerde phishinggolf door Nederland. En die speelt zich niet alleen meer af in je inbox. Criminelen verplaatsen hun aanpak namelijk steeds vaker naar de straat. En dat maakt het extra verraderlijk.

Nep-parkeerbonnen en gekloonde QR-codes

De nieuwste truc heet quishing: phishing via QR-codes.

In de praktijk ziet dat er zo uit:

- Nep-parkeerbonnen op autoruiten

- Overgeplakte QR-codes op parkeermeters en laadpalen

- Valse stickers op restauranttafels

Je scant, zoals je gewend bent, en belandt op een malafide website die nauwelijks van echt te onderscheiden is. En daar gaat het mis.

Waarom juist nu zoveel mensen erin trappen

QR-codes zijn tijdens de coronaperiode ingeburgerd. Even scannen en door, zonder te controleren of het wel zuivere koffie is.

Daar komt nog iets bij: phishingberichten worden steeds slimmer geschreven met behulp van kunstmatige intelligentie. Daardoor verdwijnen klassieke waarschuwingen zoals spelfouten of kromme zinnen. Dit resulteert erin dat zelfs ervaren internetgebruikers de signalen missen.

Oplichters spelen in op drie dingen:

– Haast (“betaal binnen 24 uur”)

– Autoriteit (bank, gemeente of overheid)

– Gewoontegedrag (QR scannen zonder nadenken)

En precies die combinatie maakt deze fraude zo effectief.

Zo herken je de valstrik nog wél

Er zijn een paar signalen die bijna altijd verraden dat het mis is:

– Je wordt onpersoonlijk aangesproken (“geachte klant”)

– Het afzenderadres klopt net niet

– Er is plotselinge urgentie of dreiging

– Je moet betalen via een onbekende of buitenlandse route

– Je wordt via QR-code naar een login- of betaalpagina gestuurd

Twijfel je? Niet scannen. Niet klikken. Zelf de officiële app openen.

Wat als het al mis is gegaan?

Heb je je gegevens ingevuld of een code bevestigd? Dan telt elke minuut. De Politie Nederland en banken adviseren:

- Direct je bank bellen om rekeningen te blokkeren

- Wachtwoorden aanpassen

- Aangifte doen

- Je bank-app controleren op verdachte transacties

Officers can also tap into data showing a car’s decals, bumper stickers, back and top racks—along with temporary and unique state tags.

Flock calls it a “Vehicle Fingerprint” and it’s touted as a way for law enforcement officials to get more information “even when you don’t have full plate information,” the company’s presentation shows.

The company gives police officers the ability to search that data as well, to “build stronger cases with less information upfront.” That includes being able to locate multiple vehicles law enforcement officials believe are moving together and what Flock calls a “multi geo search.”

This kind of thing is older than AI; I wrote about it in my 2014 book Beyond Fear. Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA was using cell phone location data to track phones that were habitually near each other.

As bad as Flock is, remember that anyone with broad access to cell phone location data can do the same thing.

For a country of 5.6 million people, Norway’s list of competitive achievements is remarkable. Our winter Olympians gobble up medals at a freakish rate, our women’s handball team is all-conquering, we’ve had standout successes in athletics such as the Ingebrigtsen brothers, we’ve had two tournament winners on this season’s PGA tour and, improbably, Norway has also produced the greatest chess player of all time. And while these successes are cherished and celebrated, nothing unites the country quite like football – and no match has stopped the country in its tracks quite like the 2-1 win against Brazil in their final group game of the 1998 World Cup.

The sound of commentator Arne Scheie announcing “Vi har scoret i Marseille!” (We have scored in Marseille!) is as firmly etched into our brains as much as anything said by Norwegians poets and politicians in the last 50 years. Scheie was already something of a national treasure, a commentator known for his level-headedness and factual rigor, but when Norway won a late penalty with the score 1-1 he lost the run of himself entirely. He referred to the penalty taker, the then Hertha Berlin midfielder Kjetil Rekdal as “Kjetil Reknett, of Werder Bremen” (Reknett is not a surname in Norwegian or, as far as I am aware, any other language).

Thousands of volunteers are joined by overseas teams in the hope of finding more survivors in the rubble

When twin earthquakes tore through Venezuela’s northern coast last week, Israel Rivas was at home hundreds of miles away in the industrial city of San Félix. As the scale of the catastrophe became clear, the 24-year-old knew he had to react. A mechanic and budding photographer, Rivas gathered the money he had been saving to buy a new camera lens and jumped on a bus to make the 12-hour journey to La Guaira, the coastal state that has suffered the most damage.

“I couldn’t eat well. I couldn’t sleep well, knowing that my brothers and sisters from this country are dying, so I … came here and I’m doing the best I can,” he said on Wednesday, exactly a week after the disaster, as he stood outside Residencia La Gabarra, a 12-storey block of beachside apartments that had collapsed into a jumble of reinforced concrete and bricks with at least three children inside.
