ZEIST (ANP) - Verzekeraar Achmea schrapt 350 banen bij bekende merken als Zilveren Kruis, Centraal Beheer en Interpolis. Het concern brengt de distributieorganisaties van zijn verschillende merken begin volgend jaar samen in een nieuwe divisie. Overlap tussen de teams moet worden verminderd en er zullen taken verder worden geautomatiseerd.

Voor vakbond CNV komt de reorganisatie niet als een verrassing. "De financiële wereld is volop in beweging. Overal wordt gereorganiseerd. Achmea heeft zelf bij de presentatie van de jaarcijfers al aangekondigd dat er reorganisaties te verwachten zijn. Dus deze aankondiging komt niet helemaal uit de lucht vallen", laat CNV-onderhandelaar André Kramer weten.

In totaal telt Achmea in Nederland meer dan 14.000 arbeidsplaatsen. Of er gedwongen ontslagen zullen vallen, is volgens Kramer nog niet duidelijk. "Misschien valt het mee", stelt hij. "Achmea kan waarschijnlijk veel oplossen met een vacaturestop, natuurlijk verloop en het verkleinen van de flexibele schil."

ARNHEM (ANP) - De 36-jarige Veysel Ü. heeft in hoger beroep een lagere straf gekregen dan bij de rechtbank voor de moord op twee broers in de McDonald's in Zwolle. Het gerechtshof in Arnhem legde hem donderdag 26,5 jaar cel op; de rechtbank kwam eerder tot dertig jaar. Reden voor de lagere straf is de stoornis die de verdachte in detentie heeft opgelopen. Ook de lange duur van de afwikkeling van de strafzaak heeft het hof meegewogen.

Ü. had op 30 maart 2022 een afspraak met de twee slachtoffers, Ali (57) en Hüseyin (62) Torunlar. Na een gesprek van ongeveer een uur schoot hij elf keer op beide mannen. Zij overleden ter plaatse. Veel mensen waren getuige van het geweld. Ü. meldde zich later die avond bij de politie. Hij had een conflict over geld met een familielid van de broers.

Het hof verwierp de verklaring van Ü. dat hij dacht dat een van de slachtoffers een wapen wilde trekken en dat hij daarom heeft geschoten. Volgens het hof heeft de verdachte geen openheid van zaken gegeven.

Het Openbaar Ministerie had in hoger beroep dertig jaar cel geëist.

There’s no better way to stay relevant than to stop looking over your shoulder and instead live for the present. Unfortunately my mindset is the complete opposite

An eminent talent agent and manager, Professor Jonathan Shalit OBE, was asked how he kept his company successful over so many years in the ever-changing world of show business. I’m sure the reasons are many, but the one he advanced on this occasion was his loathing of a particular bit of stinking thinking. He said that if anyone in a meeting said anything along the lines of “The business isn’t what it was” or “Things aren’t like how they were”, he would bring the meeting to an end.

I loved this. What better way to stay relevant, stay positive, than to waste no time lamenting a past that may or may not have been any better in the first place. What’s the point? What actually is the point? Yet so many of us think of nothing else. Life was better then, the world was better then, I was better then, blah blah blah. No wonder so much political discourse seems to echo this.

As he cycled down a straight stretch of renovated road that runs parallel to a forest path he had flagged for poor quality, lights bright on his bike and helmet firm on his head, he was fatally struck from behind by a car.
