MOSKOU (ANP) - De Russische president Vladimir Poetin en de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump hebben volgens het Kremlin zaterdag bijna anderhalf uur lang gebeld. Dat melden Russische media. De twee bespraken de situatie in Oekraïne in de aanloop naar de NAVO-top in Ankara komende week.

Trump zou tijdens het telefoongesprek zijn hulp hebben aangeboden om tot een oplossing te komen voor de oorlog in Oekraïne, aldus het Kremlin. Volgens de Amerikaanse president blijven Amerikaanse gezanten Steve Witkoff en Jared Kushner betrokken bij de onderhandelingen en zijn zij bereid nog een bezoek aan Moskou te brengen.

Volgens Kyiv heeft de Oekraïense president Volodymyr Zelensky zaterdag ook met Trump gesproken. Zelensky en Poetin feliciteerden de VS op X al met het 250-jarig jubileum van de Amerikaanse onafhankelijkheid.

A cricket match had to be abandoned after a runaway bull stormed the playing field and charged at players.

The North East Premier League fixture at Burnopfield Cricket Club near Newcastle was called off on Saturday evening despite efforts to remove the animal from the ground.
