HEERHUGOWAARD (ANP) - De burgemeester van Dijk en Waard heeft dinsdag opdracht gegeven voor de sluiting van een bedrijfspand in Heerhugowaard voor zes maanden. Op 1 juni viel daar een dodelijk slachtoffer door een schiet- en steekpartij. Twee verdachten werden daarvoor aangehouden, meldt de gemeente.

In het pand, dat zich op de hoek van de Newtonstraat en Coulombstraat bevindt, vond de politie na het dodelijke geweld wapens en spullen die gebruikt worden om drugs te maken. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat het pand werd gebruikt voor zaken "die verband houden met het drugscircuit". De burgemeester vindt dat het pand voorlopig dicht moet blijven om de rust in de omgeving te herstellen en om ervoor te zorgen dat de locatie niet meer bekend is binnen het criminele milieu.

Het Noord-Hollandse medium NH schrijft dat de man die op 1 juni werd gedood, de voortvluchtige Britse crimineel Tommy Parker (52) was. Een 44-jarige verdachte uit Velsen en een 65-jarige verdachte uit Heerhugowaard raakten zwaargewond bij het incident.

GEORGETOWN (ANP/DPA) - Het dodental na een bootongeluk in Guyana is opgelopen naar 41. Een veerboot kapseisde afgelopen weekend en als gevolg daarvan zijn nog tientallen mensen vermist.

Sinds zondag wordt gezocht naar slachtoffers van het ongeluk. Er zijn tot dusver 77 opvarenden gered. Premier Mark Phillips zei dinsdag ervan overtuigd te zijn dat er 179 mensen aan boord waren. Eerder werd bekend dat op de passagierslijst 133 mensen stonden.

De premier van het Zuid-Amerikaanse land zei zondag dat twee bemanningsleden positief waren getest op marihuana. Hij voegde eraan toe dat er een onderzoek loopt. De m/v Barima was onderweg van de hoofdstad Georgetown naar het in het noordwesten gelegen dorp Port Kaituma.

Op de Rottedijk ter hoogte van Bleiswijk is dinsdagavond een wielrenner hard ten val gekomen. Het slachtoffer, een man, raakte hierbij gewond aan zijn hoofd. Hij zou, volgens 112-correspondenten, kort het bewustzijn zijn verloren. Het slachtoffer is inmiddels naar het ziekenhuis.

It’s the same bullshit the D.O.J. under Trump is trying to use against anti-fascists and other protesters… don’t fall for it! If you don’t know about Hoover’s mission to destroy the Panthers, look it up. I’d recommend Black Panther Party co-founder Bobby Seale’s book “Seize the Time.” And for those of you who are just into feline black cats, you are cool by me too, and a portion of the proceeds from this print will go to the ASPCA for the work they do to find homes for cats and dogs. Remco Evenepoel took back-to-back stage wins in the Tour de France, and eroded some of Tadej Pogacar’s overall lead, with victory in the stage-16 time trial from Evian to Thonon-les-Bains.

The Olympic road and time trial champion, now second overall in the Tour, won on the Belgian national day from Pogacar by 28 seconds, to reduce the Slovenian’s advantage to just over four and a half minutes. It was the third Tour time trial win of his career.

Madeleine McCann’s younger brother, Sean, has been selected to represent Scotland in swimming at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

McCann, a student at Loughborough University, is expected to compete in a number of longer-distance freestyle events when competition begins at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre on Thursday, and hopes a strong performance in Glasgow will strengthen his bid for selection to Team Great Britain for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. McCann is eligible to represent Scotland through his father, Gerry, who was born in Glasgow.
