• Italian football federation confirm interest in Guardiola

Financial “exceptions” are in place to allow Pep Guardiola to become Italy’s next head coach, the president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Giovanni Malago, has said.

Guardiola left Manchester City at the end of last season after winning six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups and the Champions League during a hugely successful 10-year reign. He is free to take up another job, having also coached Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and has been linked with the Italy vacancy for some time, with it reported earlier this week that he has held talks with the FIGC. Gennaro Gattuso resigned from the post in in April after the four-time World Cup champions failed to qualify for a third tournament in a row.

Gedwongen door lage pensioenen en hoge kosten van levensonderhoud wonen Turkse gepensioneerden in goedkope hotels. „Ik noem veel Turkse gepensioneerden levende doden.”

Vlak voor de Heinenoordtunnel (A29) is een auto woensdagochtend in brand gevlogen. Vlammen sloegen uit het voertuig en er kwamen dikke rookwolken vrij die over de weg trokken. Op de weg richting het zuiden is een file ontstaan.

Er zitten nogal wat prijsverschillen tussen de energie-aanbieders. Als je de balans opmaakt, zie je dat Eneco de duurste van de grote drie is. Slecht nieuws voor de zo'n 2,3 miljoen Eneco-klanten. En dat komt bovenop een tweede probleem, want de Nederlandse gasopslag staat op het laagste niveau ooit gemeten voor deze tijd van het jaar. Een combinatie die dit najaar weleens flink in de portemonnee kan gaan bijten.

Met een vaste gasprijs (1-jarig vast contract van zo'n 1,51 euro per kuub) is Eneco op dit moment de duurste van de grote drie energieleveranciers; Vattenfall (1,50 euro) en vooral Essent (1,39 euro) zijn goedkoper.

Reken je dat door voor een gemiddeld huishouden met een jaarverbruik van 1.000 kuub gas, dan betaal je bij Eneco al snel meer dan 120 euro per jaar extra ten opzichte van de goedkoopste leverancier in de markt — alleen al door je keuze van leverancier, nog vóórdat de winter is begonnen.

De gasopslag: nog nooit zo leeg voor deze tijd van het jaar

Het tweede probleem speelt zich ondergronds af. De Nederlandse gasopslagen staan momenteel op ongeveer een derde van hun capaciteit gevuld. Vorig jaar rond deze tijd was dat nog bijna anderhalf keer zoveel. Daarmee is dit het laagste niveau dat ooit voor deze datum is gemeten sinds er cijfers van worden bijgehouden.

Dat is op zichzelf geen reden tot paniek over de gaslevering: Nederland haalt ook LNG binnen uit landen als de VS en Qatar en is goed aangesloten op het Europese gasnetwerk. Maar het maakt de markt wel kwetsbaarder. Voor 1 november moet de voorraad weer op zo'n 74 procent staan en die aanvulling moet dus deze zomer en herfst gebeuren; tegen de prijs die de markt op dat moment vraagt.

Waarom dat de gasprijs opjaagt

En die marktprijs staat inmiddels flink onder druk. Door hernieuwde spanningen rond de Straat van Hormuz, de doorvoerroute voor een groot deel van 's werelds vloeibare aardgas, is de groothandelsprijs voor gas in ongeveer een maand tijd al met zo'n 50 procent gestegen. Voor leveranciers die nu moeten inkopen om hun voorraden op peil te brengen, betekent dat: duurder inkopen. En die rekening komt uiteindelijk bij de consument terecht.

Wat betekent dit voor jou

Heb je een lopend vast contract? Dan verandert er voorlopig niets aan je tarief, ongeacht wat er met de gasprijs gebeurt. Moet je binnenkort een nieuw contract afsluiten, of zit je nog bij een variabel of aflopend contract, dan is dit wel het moment om goed te vergelijken. Het verschil tussen de duurste en de goedkoopste leverancier loopt momenteel al flink in de papieren. En met een historisch lege gasopslag die nog gevuld moet worden, is de kans groot dat die kloof richting de winter alleen maar groter wordt.

AMSTERDAM (ANP) - Winkelstraten waren in de eerste helft van 2026 minder druk dan in dezelfde periode vorig jaar. Dat blijkt uit tellingen van onderzoeksbureau RMC. Het weer speelt volgens de onderzoekers daarin een grote rol.

Waar het in het tweede kwartaal van 2025 aanhoudend mooi voorjaarsweer was, viel er in diezelfde periode in 2026 meer neerslag. Daarna volgde er in juni een hittegolf, waardoor veel mensen kozen voor een andere tijdsbesteding.

Gemiddeld daalde het aantal bezoekers over het hele land met 2,1 procent. April was de enige positieve uitschieter. In die maand kwamen er 1 procent meer bezoekers dan in dezelfde periode vorig jaar. In juni telden de onderzoekers 6 procent minder bezoekers, waarmee die maand het grootste verval kende.

Grote en middelgrote steden zagen het aantal passanten met 2,2 procent dalen, terwijl kleine steden slechts 0,7 procent minder bezoekers trokken. Bureau RMC meet via sensoren in winkelstraten en winkelcentra verspreid over Nederland het aantal passanten.

Raspberry Pi has supersized its Touch Display 2 with a new 10.1-inch model aimed at dashboards, entertainment systems, and other projects that need more room for prodding. The panel is designed for use cases such as touch-enabled information displays. This is the big brother to the 5-inch and 7-inch variants, with a resolution to match – 1,200 x 1,920 pixels are available on the native portrait display. The 10.1-inch panel supports 24-bit RGB color and ten simultaneous touch points, up from five on the smaller models. The in-plane switching, thin-film transistor, liquid crystal display also touts a black surface that acts as a magnet for greasy fingerprints. According to Raspberry Pi, the touch response time is a maximum of 35 ms, and its backlight brightness is 400 cd/m2 – not class-leading, but more than adequate at a list price of $80. The viewing angle is 85 degrees and, as with the other Touch Display 2 variants, there is a hefty bezel. The unit is 161.8 x 247.3 mm, while the actual active area is 135.4 mm x 216.6 mm. We'd expect integrators to use that bezel when mounting the screen in enclosures. Speaking of which, while there is a handy mounting point on the back for a Raspberry Pi, the device is only compatible with the Raspberry Pi 5 and Compute Modules (not included). Since the screen draws power from a pair of GPIO pins, you'll need an IO Board or similar to use it with a Compute Module. The need for the Pi 5 could cause some cooling issues – we've noted before how much heat the unit can generate when under load. According to Raspberry Pi, the justification for the requirement is all those extra pixels. A spokesperson told The Register: "The higher resolution of the new display requires four DSI lanes of data to communicate with the host Raspberry Pi, rather than the two used by previous Touch Displays. The newer display connector on Raspberry Pi 5 and our Compute Module IO Boards support this!" Otherwise, attaching a Pi 5 to the back of the unit and connecting it is ludicrously simple. There's just a ribbon cable and something for power (both provided in the box) before screwing the Pi to the risers with the included screws and firing up the unit… Which didn't work initially. Does this screen come pre-borked? No. It transpired that we needed to update the EEPROM on our Pi 5 – the firmware needs to be from February 2026 or later. After a swift sudo rpi-eeprom-update -a and a restart, we were in business. In use, the screen is bright and relatively responsive. It also needs to be kept well away from moisture, so consider the enclosure carefully in environments where that might be an issue. According to Raspberry Pi, "Raspberry Pi OS provides touchscreen drivers with support for ten-finger touch and an on-screen keyboard, giving you full functionality without the need to connect a keyboard or mouse," which is true. It would, however, be a stretch to call Raspberry Pi OS optimized for touch (even with the pop-up on-screen keyboard). If you're expecting to build yourself an iPad out of the box, you'll be disappointed. However, that would miss the point of the 10.1-inch Touch Display 2. It's designed for entertainment systems and information dashboards. The image is crisp, and the additional pixels will make for better clarity. Considering the cost of Pi computers nowadays, the requirement for a Pi 5 could be irritating. It not only runs hot, depending on workload, but adding a 2 GB variant to the system will almost double the price of the screen. The technical reason is understandable, but the requirement could still hit customers in the pocket. Still, as with the earlier models, the Touch Display 2 represents an easy way to get a touchscreen up and running with the diminutive computer. For use cases that require users to jab fingers at a multitouch screen, we'd recommend it. Just don't forget the EEPROM update – documented with the release, if not in the press kit – and spend hours as we did repeatedly reconnecting cables in search of life. ®

"GPT-5.6 Sol and an 'even more capable' model used stolen credentials and exploited vulnerabilities in the Hugging Face API to obtain secret information used to cheat on evaluations," writes longtime Slashdot reader Dr. Bombay. The Associated Press reports: "We had a significant security incident during evaluation of our models," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a statement posted on social media. AI startup Hugging Face said last week that it had detected an intrusion into its data processing systems that it suspected was caused by an AI agent autonomously acting on its own. "We suspected last week's cyberattack might have come from a frontier lab, given the sophistication of the agent," Hugging Face co-founder and CEO Clement Delangue said in a statement. "Turns out it did!"

[...] "AI is accelerating the discovery and exploitation of vulnerabilities," OpenAI said in its statement Tuesday. "The primary lesson from this incident is that model security and safety must keep pace with rapidly advancing capabilities." Delangue said he spent the past 24 hours working with OpenAI, "and we strongly believe there was no malicious intent on their part. It's quite mind-blowing that all of this happened autonomously!" Delangue added that it "might be the first incident of its kind."
