Chelsea have announced the signing of the France forward Melvine Malard from Manchester United on a four-year contract. The Guardian revealed last week that a deal was close for the 26-year-old, who has left United after three seasons for about £850,000.

Malard had one year on her contract and United were keen to keep the forward. However, once it became clear Malard wanted a move United decided to sell rather than lose a high-value player on a free next summer.

Hiring Tuchel was centred around the promise that he would make the difference in the big games. When that fell down, all that was left was anger. It exposed the core emptiness of the appointment, of a rich federation covering up the flaws in its coaching development by trying to game the system by throwing money at an expensive outsider.

BRUSSEL (ANP) - Tot 2030 hoeven EU-lidstaten geen boetes te geven aan bedrijven die zich niet houden aan nieuwe regels rond methaanuitstoot. Vanaf 2027 moeten bedrijven die olie en gas importeren zich aan die regels houden. De Europese Commissie adviseert maandag sancties bij overtredingen uit te stellen.

Aanleiding voor de herziening is de oorlog in het Midden-Oosten en het sluiten van de Straat van Hormuz. Daardoor is de levering van olie en gas minder zeker geworden. De methaanregels mogen niet ook nog eens een "belemmering vormen voor de import", aldus de Commissie.

Vanaf volgend jaar moeten bedrijven die olie en gas importeren naar de EU gedetailleerd vastleggen hoeveel methaan ze uitstoten. Die regels gelden al voor olie- en gasbedrijven die leveren binnen de EU. De EU importeert het grootste deel van haar energie van buiten Europa. Uit angst dat de leveringszekerheid van olie en gas in gevaar komt, stelt het dagelijkse bestuur van de EU nu voor de regels te versoepelen.

Opschorting

De methaanregels blijven wel in stand, maar de sancties die erop volgen worden niet van kracht van 2027 tot en met 2029, aldus de Commissie. Ook mogen bedrijven minder gedetailleerd aantonen hoe de methaanuitstoot wordt vastgelegd en gemonitord.

Meerdere lidstaten, waaronder Nederland, hadden opgeroepen tot opschorting van de methaanregels vanwege de mogelijke invloed op de leveringszekerheid van olie en gas.

Methaan is een broeikasgas dat vrijkomt bij de productie van olie en gas en draagt sterk bij aan de opwarming van de aarde. Om methaanuitstoot in kaart te brengen en te kijken waar die mogelijk kan worden teruggedrongen, voerde de EU in 2024 de methaanregels in.

Zucht. Bij het AD checken ze nieuws over Trump ongeveer net zo goed als de taalvaardigheid van hun columnisten. Nu dit weer. Nou hebben wij gisteren ook gekeken naar die huldiging (en vandaag dus nog een paar keer, hierrrr tussen 28m10s en 28m23s, en inderdaad stond Donald Trump een tijdje naast de spelers in het shot, tot hij daar door Infantino uit werd gedirigeerd. Zie bijvoorbeeld dit moment.

Maar wie goed kijkt, ziet dat De La Fuente op dit moment nog naar zijn team toegedraaid staat, dat Lamine Yamal nog helemaal niet naar Gavi toebeweegt en dat Gavi ook zijn duim nog niet heeft opgestoken, zoals op de foto van Spanje allemaal wel te zien is. Maar even later is dat allemaal wél het geval.

En zie. Trump staat daar al op enige afstand van het Spaanse team, en hoeft dus niet uit het shot te worden gefotoshopt. Dat is dus ook helemaal niet gebeurd. Nog een geluk dat het geen Premium artikel van de sportredactie van het AD was.

I suspect like many of you, I saw The Odyssey this weekend. I really liked it and the more I read & think about the film, the more it grows in my esteem. This thread by Mmina Maclang-Tamayo (spoilers!) is pretty much how I interpreted what Nolan was trying to convey.

As it turns out, it was 10,000% important that Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was delivered in American accents, beyond just the Emily Wilson linguistics of it all.

It’s because it was about America.

The emphasis on what’s happening back in Ithaca, with the royal courts and suitors to Penelope reflect upon the internal politics of taking the anxieties of the people about external invaders to attempt to seize power.

Then, Odysseus returns with the revelation: the feared invaders, “The Sea People”, were them all along.

Zeus’ Law has an uncanny resemblance to Christian teaching. “Whatsoever you do to the least of My brothers, that you do unto Me”. (Matthew 25:40)

That America proudly keeps envoking the Abrahamic God in its identity as a nation, and its government attempting to justify their actions in the name of such a God, yet turn around and gravely mistreat the immigrants on their doorstep, and antagonize their own allies, is a betrayal of its identity.

The film warns: America has broken Zeus’ Law.

Steve Donner shared some interesting thoughts in his reading of the film:

20. The point: Nothing is sacred in war, and we have lost all respect for basic decency and hospitality. We’re all the violators; we are all the suitors, we are all the cyclops. Consequently, all the towers and temples burn (“the burning roof and tower, and Agamemnon dead”). It’s Odysseus’ guilt about his foreign wars manifesting again and he’s spent years avoiding the truth.

21. That’s why he’s unconsciously avoided home for twenty years: he simply cannot face what he has become, nor does he wish to show his shame to his wife and son.

James Cameron filmed his Avatar sequels there. Marvel filmed Thor, Iron Man 2, and The Avengers. Manhattan Beach Studios in Los Angeles even handled Star Wars' series like Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Mandalorian, which Bloomberg points out is about "a heavily armed bounty hunter in a galaxy far, far away."
